I saw him live in 86 and cocky is a perfect word to describe his performance. He seems like he has come a long way since then but he definitely was a cocky bastich back in the day.
I attended MI and two of the staff were producing video tutorials of famous guitarists. One of them(Steve Travato) said when that picked Yngwie up at the airport, he was so full of himself that they had to remind him, that they didn't really care who he was or for his music.
For me, his attitude on stage is what was cocky. He barely had time to play any music between throwing thousands of picks into the audience and dancing around spinning his guitar. I saved for weeks for that show and ended up walking out it was so bad.
Steve said he was acting like a prima donna, expecting royal treatment as if he was on tour and was being a bit whinny about not receiving it. Steve basically told him to stfu and deal lol.
@chocomalk i can see what your saying now, ya i have seen some vids were he isnt really playing much on stage, but ya i think l8ly he has been getting bad with it, because all of his new vids now is him just him shredding and sweeping, he doesnt even make them into melodies, he did best in the 90's i think.
His real early stuff was great as was his live playing but I think the 80's went to his head like a lot of other players. You're right, he basically regurgitates the same harmonic minor and relative diminished scales over and over.
I do think his attitude has improved though, he seems more humble now.

why does everyone say he is cocky? i have been watching his vids for like a month straight and i have found no evidence of this. i used to think this too but only because everyone else said so. now that i have seen alot of videos of him and interviews, i just think he is just has a sarcastic type of personallity. he doesnt seem like hes really cocky at all.

If your a guitarist with a advanced skill level then you have to play with soul, because if you didnt have soul then you wouldnt be really good at guitar at all because having soul in your playing gives you pation for playing and without that you wouldnt practice hard and without that you would be good at all. I saw him live in 86 and cocky is a perfect word to describe his performance. He seems like he has come a long way since then but he definitely was a cocky bastich back in the day.
I attended MI and two of the staff were producing video tutorials of famous guitarists. One of them(Steve Travato) said when that picked Yngwie up at the airport, he was so full of himself that they had to remind him, that they didn't really care who he was or for his music.

For me, his attitude on stage is what was cocky. He barely had time to play any music between throwing thousands of picks into the audience and dancing around spinning his guitar. I saved for weeks for that show and ended up walking out it was so bad.
Steve said he was acting like a prima donna, expecting royal treatment as if he was on tour and was being a bit whinny about not receiving it. Steve basically told him to stfu and deal lol.

His real early stuff was great as was his live playing but I think the 80's went to his head like a lot of other players. You're right, he basically regurgitates the same harmonic minor and relative diminished scales over and over.
I do think his attitude has improved though, he seems more humble now.
