It wasn't just the length of the show. The show's story become painfully rushed after the Last Song Arc, and you can tell there was a lot of plot material that didn't get used. Such as Yuri aiming to become God, and further exploring some of the characters. PA Works cut the production of the episodes in half, it was originally supposed to be 24 episodes. And it's very obvious that the story didn't get to see it's fullest potential.

@adamstony1 Yes I saw the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumia. My opinion was that it started slowly but the plot was exceptional and flawless. It combines romance, mystery, philosophy and science fiction seemlessly and by the very moment you think you understand how it will end... you're completely wrong. If you're into time travel, aliens, lengthy plots, and philosophy the movie is a must... hough you may be a bit lost unless you've seen the show (though you probably want to skip the endless 8)
