if u want to try this just make sure there is only a few seconds with the match under the jar before u start the microwave, if it is under it to long it will go out do to lack of oxygen
Uh, please, plasma is the fourth state of matter: energized particles with distinct properties, such as the property of being influenced by magnetic fields.
@jb828films so superheated in fact that the electrons break free of their shells and run wild, which causes light to be formed. fire is plasma. lightning is plasma.
Why can the smoke from a spent match or the steam from a hot grape get excited into plasma and the air that is naturally there can't? Is it because water and CO molecules are naturally polarized?
IF YOU READ THIS, try it at home. it dosn't harm your microwave that why the glass is used. but dont let it flare like that for more than like 6 seconds otherwise the pressure becomes so extreme the glass explodes =)
There is plasma in the last 4 seconds of the video, and it collects at the top of the jar, accompanied by the same "buzz" that one can observe while creating "grape plasma".
they shouldn't as long as you're careful the CD is as close to the center as the microwave as possible. i've done it a lot and my microwave still works great!
Uhuh my roommate did it in his microwave a couple times and it is much cooler. Come to think of it we haven't used the microwave since then so I have no idea if it still works.
Your right about the glass but there's no water. Without the glass above the candle the plasma will literally burn out your magnetron. Not from too much draw, rather the plasma will seek out the place with the highest density of microwaves.
Unless I am wrong, theoretically, that last flash was th result of plasma.
No, I'm not joking; you can make plasma in your microwave. Check youtube for the other vids. I ned to confirm this with wikipedia, and some real physicists for proof, but the theory is there; microwaves work by radiation, magnets are involved, and the heating done is actually at a very high temperature, but from the inside.
You know, that fact has been disputed by some scientists, but I'm inclined to believe you as fire is a very unusual and unique phenomena. Those scientists like to label it as simply combustion, but that doesn't say much. The only problem is fire's apparent lack of electricial conductivity, but that's another issue.
hmm! that was pretty cool! i didn't think that that would happen! microwaves work off of vibrating water molecules to produce heat (correct me if i'm wrong!) i think, so please, explain to me why this happens? (don't be afraid to use big words..)
You are absolutely right about how the microwaves heat food. They excite water molecules into another vibrational mode. However, all light transfers energy to whatever absorbs it. Inside a microwave oven, there is a high flux of microwaves and a lot of available energy. When the gas, which is created by the smoke of the match gets even more excited (by the transference of energy via microwaves) it becomes a plasma, or is ionized.
impossible that its most hotter then the skin of the sun... or even the microwave would burn... and if it would get out we woud all dies.. imagine the sun is like millions of kilometers away.. if its like some meters we will die..
if destroying the world was that fucking easy we would be all dead you tard. also lightning strikes are like 6 times hotter than the sun so everytime that strikes i guess humanity dies too.
It's definately not as hot as the surface of the sun. I did all sorts of stupid things with the plasma before I got bored of it. One time I roasted a walnut with the plasma. It didn't taste very good. = / (No, I don't have cancer yet.)
By the way, what type of battery? I don't think an alkaline battery would do much. A li^+/- battery may do something but those are expensive.
if destroying the world was that fucking easy we would be all dead you tard. also lightning strikes are like 6 times hotter than the sun so everytime that strikes i guess humanity dies too.
not directly. The only real way you can damage a microwave with this is if you do not put glass on top of it. If you just let it sit out the fireball will touch the top of the microwave, burning it.
You know, the match doesn't need to be lit, just burned. Notice in this video that the fire is dead prior to the light show. It makes this easier to do too... just burn the match first and take your time.

On another note, after I shot this video I did the same thing only I used molten lead. That did create allot of smoke. Needless to say I turned on the microwave vent and ran out of the house.
