I wonder if they have ever noticed the repetitive pattern in the interpretation that all Beethoven pieces have. That pattern (if you find it) is the root source of energy for ALL of His compositions ,, I believe ..
Jesus guys.... don't look directly at the camera. I do appreciate the classical interpretation of headbanging at 2:50. That haircut says "Ladies, don't worry about me, I'm low maintenance."
Has he even read the score carefully? The dynamic are totally wrong in many places!! I don't even have to look at the score to find mistakes, And... wrong notes at 5:51, don't think on one hears it....
Sorry, but I think you are mistaken regarding 5:51. This is a great interpretation of this sonata and performance. If you can't hear that it's a shame.

@carreno23 it is really a wrong note there i think. He played f-sharp instead of g-sharp exactly. Or I have a wrong score? I don't criticize about his interpretation, but if he really played the wrong note, means that he hasn't understood the score completely.
well in fact i can't really say i "see" pictures. i may have some shapes landscapes or movements that appear but it's abstract sometimes . an example . on horowitz Waldstein (my favourite sonata !!!) is used a pedal on the first bars. i can see an accelerated rising sun : the dawn . without pedal i get blind. no picture. : ( picture don't come very often . does it happen to you to see things ??. which ones and on which partition ??
Salman's voice was nothing like I expected. I imagined something deep, serious and foreign sounding, judging from the incredible way he played Moonlight Sonata.
But here he sounds more like an energetic American teenager. It's hilarious.
Carreno23 good for you. I mean that. If it moves you then it moves you. For me-not so much. I think the playing is really good actually and I never stated different.
I prefer hearing Bernstein in the unanswered question or the young people's concerts. As a matter of fact I wouldn't mind even hearing the rest of this presentation, it's just that the rather bizarre approach is distracting. And whoever said that what they state is the be all end of the "master's" message anyway?Check out Barenboim playing every single sonata on dvd. Pretty amazing from what i've seen.
No,the fact that they are being serious about the music was never the issue in and of itself. Also the issue was never about what I said or didn't say regarding that. For me the issue is about in taking it seriously, they with their rather over the top and goofy language are taking themselves too seriously. how many times do I have to state this? try to keep up. I love to hear professionals talk about these things, just not quite this melodramatic. Because again, it's about them, not the music.
Don't you think it's interesting to hear professionals who have spent years studying Beethoven's sonatas, some of the most profound music ever written, share their insights and ideas about them? This music stands at the pinnacle of Western art-- I thought their commentary was very helpful in understanding it and it didn't put me off at all. And the playing is beyond beautiful.
Oh I must have missed the love and peace when you called me a schmuck. Sorry. The issue was never about passion or seriousness, but it was my opinion that the way they were discussing it was too over the top. Nonethe less like other commenters I wouldn't mind hearing the rest, but the pompousness puts me off a little bit.
oh I got it now...they and YOU take yourselves waaay too seriously. There's the difference. Thanks for enlightening me....I enjoyed the music (that's taking Beethoven seriously) I think the pretentious language and melodramatic gushing is silly and distracting. Because at that point it's not about the music, it's about them and their goofy rhetoric.
I agree with monkface, Beethoven doesn't need their comment. As a matter of fact they miss the complete music of Beethoven! It's all bogus to discuss music like that, in fact they are using Beethoven to present their own egos in pretentious talk, all because they can't compete with real great pianists! Listen to Gilels or Yudina playing, than you really learn something!
lol I love the way they didn't know whether to look at each other or the camera when the camera zooms into their face. Awkward!!! Not to mention the over-the-top dramatic recitation by Mr. Dubal hehe. Beautifully played though....would love to hear the rest.
Dear greatcomposers, would you be so kind as to post the Moonlight from A Musical Universe vol 1? That would light a few under my !@#% to buy you DVD's. I think you would attract a lot of
attention to your product if your posted the moonlight!
Thanks for posting this greatcomposers! I am looking forward to purchasing the complete DVD set of all 32 Sonatas. Any idea when this project will be finished and also, will you be selling it as a complete box set? Great work and thanks again so much!
Very interesting and educational. Remembers me the book "Beethoven Sonatas" by Francis Tovey, although with these examples the presentation is remarkably rich.
they need to make another movie about beethoven and have mark salman play beethoven XDXD

Of course passion and seriousness are the issue.
You condemned Dubal and Salman for their, "goofy rhetoric" when in reality they were just being passionate.
Secondly, YOU are the one that said that they take themselves, "waaay too seriously."
Make no mistake about it, seriousness IS an issue.
Stop the hate.

There is nothing more serious than Beethoven.
And what's wrong with speaking passionately about His music?
Don't be so critical of everyone and everything.
Love is the answer, bro.
