There's different seasons, which usually bring different types of weather, Winter is usually the coldest, and right now in the Southern Hemisphere it's very nearly winter (according to Wikipedia) which means it's already very cold and the cold is about to get more consistent.

I feel like I should know when my own seasons start without looking them up.
