from what i know, the engine only renders the parts of the map that you can see from your current location, but for some reason it thinks your somewhere your not. the psychedelic stuff is the empty void outside the map confusing the renderer.

@spykidX There are some triggers that you must pass through in order to activate stuff like elevators, doors, etc...

You can actually see them by writing in the console something like "show_triggers 1" or "triggers......." .

If you use a cheat to get a cube outside the elevator, hold the cube in the doorway so the elevator closes on it. Then the cube will sink down. If you look down and jump against the door and move to the right, you can jump out of the elevator and you'll be stuck in an empty shaft. I've also loaded onto a very small space on top of the elevator one time and wasn't able to go to the test.

this happens because the trigger was by the door. later in the game, you jump down that shaft to escape. NO THIS IS NOT A TRIGGER PROBLEM. Valve designed the triggers that way so the elevator wouldn't come down in the escape levels.

This tunnel that you got stuck in is part of the levels that appear after you escape the fire pit. if you pulled this on any other chamber (excluding 19 and all counterparts) you would be crushed

its becuase the door at the end has sensors that detect the player if walked throgh that means if you get past the door before walking throgh the elevator will not respond and won't come down

wow captain obvios here, if you have played and beaten the game you will note that you encounter test chamber 9 twice the second time the elevator is gone and you have to jump down, the dark at the bottom and the opening is a matter of simple video editing..

@MrFoSizzle It's real. In that Test Chamber, you see the elevator come down, unlike all the others. They probably did this so they could easily copy and paste it into the escape area when you revisit it. All they'd have to do is remove the command that brings the elevator down when you go through the door. That is my theory on this bug.

This happens because there is a trigger_multiple at the door to activate the scripted_animation that was hooked to the elevator. If you didn't touch the trigger, the elevator would not move

I have beaten the game, in which at a part you escape and return to this level.After this part, when you're escaping, you have to fall down the elevator shaft to go through the rest of the facility. I'm assuming you got to that place in the elevator shaft before you are really allowed to actually go through, and therefore caused the game to mess up because you weren't supposed to be there. As GLaDoS would say: "Good people don't get here."

the tripps effects can happen if you go to the GLaDOS room and right when you enter the room look up there will be lamp/thing find where you can put a portal in the middle of it or near the middle,then make another portal crouch in it and look around the trippy effects will happen,youll be ontop of that lamp thingy,and its fun xD

There are a few instances where you can get ahead or outside the game, but I guess a portal gun is pretty hard to make levels for, and it's still fantastic.
