I am an Egyptian. In our history Akhenaten(Akhenaton) was the first and only Pharaoh that believed that there is only One god in this world. He didn't care much for riches and formality. He was so humble and died very young. He was a great king. Thanks for the movie.
@puzleman1 - Sure. But you see how the priest is groveling at the beginning, and you can tell he really doesn't think much of Akhenaten. So when Akhenaten says "Have I not the power to change the law?" he is being rhetorical and doing a bit of arm twisting. Akhenaten wants to hear the priest say "There is no limit to Pharaoh's power" and mean it.
Akhenaten studied religion not affairs of state.
