  • @SuperJwwilliams well atleast we dont have to worry about losing our hair like you people do!

  • It seems that people who go natural seems to be more happier and outgoing. I can't wait till my fro gets bigger like those models in the video it's the best decision I ever made for my hair it's so much healther and stronger and thicker now.

  • Thanks for some great tips! I have an adopted daughter and have been trying to figure out how to care for her hair. Her birth mom kept it chemically straightened and never added any kind of product to it. I am now left with a 6yr old who is terrified to have her hair combed and she has a head full of fuzzy dried out hair. Am going to try these tips!

  • I don't care what anybody says, fros are sexy and classy and I wear them myself -love it always!

  • baking soda is too acidic for hair

  • @adea8 u mean its too basic........sodium(bi)carbonate is not an acid...

  • where did u learn this

  • see kimmaytubes video. baking soda is not good for your hair

  • what moisturisers do you reccomend? that don't have mineral oil in them??

  • hey a bit off topic...but i would like to upload a video diary onto youtube of my natural hair!...which catagory do i choose?? as i dont want it ending up in the wrong place!!?? new utube user

  • I realize this video is three years old, so maybe u know this by now (?); But it is not best to use baking soda instead of shampoo - it is best to use (sulfate-free) shampoo, Yes. Why? In caring for natural hair, the pH level of hair products used should be considered and an effort should be made to maintain the normal and healthy pH level of hair's sebum - 4.0pH to 5.5pH. BAKING SODA can DAMAGE hair. SEE Kimmaytube's video "STRUCTURE OF HAIR PART 4-USING PH BALANCE PROPERLY FOR HAIR-CARE."

  • like this! pls do a vide on handing part relaxed and natural hair... transitiong video? it would help me a lot! especially the combing aspect!

  • eww tht chunk of hair almost made me puke XD

  • When you say conditioner and then moisturizer, do you mean like facial moisturizer? Body moisturizer? I never heard of moisturizer for the hair.

  • Wow...a lot of unnecesary arguing about textures of hair. Willie Lynch lives on.

  • i love the music

  • @MzDancerr Yeah, me too. I got it on youtube.

  • @Belimarie87 when afro hair breaks does it grows back? and when you lose your hair does it grows back and become equal with the rest?

  • @Belimarie87 `So what's the song called? Artist? Any leads? Thanks a bunch!

  • noo. ;p that doesn't sound like a good idea.

  • I like this video. Is that okey to use apple cider vinegar or baking soda to clean my 7 years old daughter's hair ?

  • where did you get the picture (0:16)

from? I really like that hair style!

  • Thank you very much. Excellent tips.

  • Your welcome =]

  • @Belimarie87 he what about every morning if you wake up and only pour water on your hair and comb it without adding any creme or moistur, or oil on it. is anything wrong with that? does it injure your hair?

  • my hair has never looked like 2:48 or the other after twists.

  • wow u sure yo hair wouildnt be stank with vinegar and shit like that?

  • The vinegar may leave a smell but you can simply condition it out. It simply acts as a cleanser.

  • beauttty07-- it may smell bad at first but the smells eventually go away-

  • okay

  • im white, and i want an afro. ive used the afro comb but it didnt work very well, ill try to use the advice on here and hopefully i can get one.

  • i heard there is a "afro perm" for other hair textures to achieve that look

  • Yea I agree with "udontknowme" try a perm that texturizes your hair. It's how a lot of people who don't have afro-textured hair are able to get dreads.

  • ackoe...do you have thick curly hair though? If your hair is bone straight you may not be able to obtain a fro depending on your hair type. You may want to google pictures of afros to see the texture of hair needed to obtain a fro.

  • baking soda

  • i have a afro, and i love it

  • "jmc8197" i am african american and i absolutely ADORE my afro textured hair because it is what i was born with so im going to strut my stuff with it. i dont feel like im cursed with it at all, thats just what the media and ADs on television WANTS people to think so they will get perms, etc...

  • perms CURL hair.... relaxers straighten hair

  • The vinegar conditions the hair more than it does cleansing.

Also stay away from "cones" (silicones) in conditioners and many other products, they coat your hair and make it difficult to absorb nutrients.

Petroleum also clogs your hair follicles stunting the growth of your hair and can cause hair loss.

And of course stay away from alcohol if you can... Its in almost everything

the main key is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

  • I'm white, have (a lot of) curly frizzy hair people falsely call an afro. However I would like to comb my hair into an afro style 'white-man's fro' lol

  • What do i do if i want my afro to grow longer? it never grows past a certain point

  • very accurate im impressed

  • this is a really good video. thnx 4 posting

  • why do white people tan and get butt implants? lol..

  • Why do most African-Americans straighten their hair?? Why don't they want to have their hair natural?

  • Well actually, I am african-american and I am wearing my hair natural as are many other African-Americans now. Also, I am far from racist, however if you don't think that racism is alive and well then you need to simply WAKE UP! Are you from Mars? No, just never walked in the shoes of another. So it takes your eyes being opened to the situation of others. My comment is less about whites than it is about my own loving themselves as one. You are not qualified to comment on that. But thanks.

  • I agree with you to a point. I'm black and i see more black people being racist to white more often than the other way around. Though i see more racism from white people on youtube. Just know that people who are listed in your statistics above are probably from poorer neighborhoods where they don't see a lot good role models. I personally don't think you were being racist.

  • It's easier to maintain when its a straighter texture.

  • Not always lol. I hate having straight hair. Especially when its pressed! Its hard to keep up with.

  • What??? I just hate when my hate gets all tangled after taking a shower. I can't stand it. At times like that I wish I had straighter hair.

  • @AlwaysLoveStacy Don't believe that slave master's hype! The easiest is what you were born with! Let's see which one survives in the rain, shower, at the gym...ALTERED straight hair or our NATURAL tresses!

  • @DBlkMoses Lol :) true

  • many people think that it's easier to have straight hair. this is ususally just because they dont know how to care for their natural hair

  • my comment earlier refers to the two quipping over pure blackness in terms of hair. So passe!

  • Just what the white man laughs at, a bunch of black people dividing themselves. And.....over hair! pathetic! and sad!!! "Keep em brainwashed. So brainwashed that they discrimate amongst themselves in the name of racial solidarity. Strange!

  • The title is"how to comb afro texture hair" can somebody tell me why do non afro texture hair people even come to this site? Ok.. perhaps they may want to learn how to comb it,then thats kool! But why leave ignorant comments that arent related to the title?

  • I can only speak for myself: I searched for hair styles videoes, hair type videoes etc.

I did not write any "ignorant" comments btw.

  • don't bother move on there's always gonna be ignorant comments, that's why its not a perfect world....lol

  • They wait for people to acknowledge their existence. The whole point is to get attention by offending you. And when you acknowledge them, you make the problem worse.

  • dont worry. theres nothing to feel sorry about. its not that much work than anyone elses hair if you know what to do with it. its just that you have to understand it. then it's pretty simple

  • can you give me some names of shampoo that great on natural hair

  • Good video....Thanks!!!

You should give the recipe for washing hair w/baking soda as too much baking soda can dry the hair

  • Can you give some examples of good leave-in con, moisturizer and oil? What re shea butter mixes usually used as? moisturizers? oils?

  • karens body beautiful hair nectar or milk is a great leave in conditioner and moisturizer , makes the hair so soft :)

Bee mine hair serum, and companies such as qhemet biologics, komaza care make great products too!

  • Yep! I like qhemet biologics =]

  • ittakes me like an hour to comb my hair everymorning

  • The longer your hair gets..the more time it takes to manage it =]

  • It shouldnt take an hour tho. unless ur Rapunzel, lol

  • @Belimarie87 Yep, that's when it's natural, permed, whateva.

  • @Belimarie87 That's on natural, relaxed, any type of hair. The moe you gots, the moe you works.

  • all i see is kind of processed hair or mixed coloured hair?can someone share how to soften and care for real kinky hair-african hair i mean.that one which a comb cannot go through unless when moist.

  • Where do you see mixed hair or processed hair at?

  • what is the name of this song.....

  • I'm trying to learn to love my hair, thats why I'm going natural. Course hair aint no joke.

  • You right..course hair aint no joke lol. Its hard sometimes going natural. The longer it gets, the more tougher it is to manage easy. But I wouldn't change my hair texture for anything in the world. I love it =]

  • music is awesome, who is it?

  • Great video!

You didn't mention conditioner though. I know you said use a leave in conditioner...same difference I guess...

    5 stars

  • I'm a black african and it's correct that the differences we see in 'black hair' is due to mixes (known or unknow).

I just find out myself that my great grand mother was mixed.

    My hair in kinky-coily...

  • Comment removed

  • Im black and my hair looks like Im mixed and Im not...I have a silky texture with curls

  • then you have non black in you

  • bAkamnonu please drop it... i'm Nigerian too (100%, no mixing whatsoever) and my mom's hair cant be called 'nappy'. its kinda long and straight. n she's not even fulani or hausa or sth, we're straight up Yoruba. so stop belaboring the point... you're makin us look bad.

  • You Yoruba?? Se o gbo Yoruba??

  • Beeni ma... lol

i'm not too fluent, but i understand it perfectly. n i think i'm getting better too :)

  • Negro curly hair.

  • bAkamnonu your one slo mo bishhh black african poeple have diffrent hair textures end of story.

  • here educate dumb ass watch?v=rTYN8D-n68Y

  • Listen dumbass, I am from the land of the pure blacks, and where you are, "blacks" are mixed with many other races. So I know I am correct

  • no im not you slo mo. learn your race have diffrent hair textures idiot.

  • This is getting out of hand..can we reframe from the name calling? By the way..many black people have different hair types..like white people have different hair types..some have curly hair or frizzy hair, some have straight.

  • I dont know what you two define as black? Do you mean black as in dark skin or black as in black african? Because NO black african has straight hair! I dont need fake american blacks telling me the features of my ow race

  • it was black americans who came up with the term "black"...so don't bite the hands of your brothers. Also, mixing of races happened all over, you have a little something else in you. Remove yourself from the willie lynchism type of thinking my brother.

  • in reply to "tigera10030",

i thought the white americans came up with the terms "black" and "african american" for the black race...so its not true? im very curious for a 15 yr old..

  • your the kind of person who keep this world SICK >:(, we're all human two lungs and a heart GET OVER IT

  • bAkamnonu your so dumb i have even seen hindus with kinky hair. not all blacks have the same texture! how can i think im black?

haha your and idiot. not all blacks can grow an afro but it do all have a kinky texture to it not all full blacks have nappy hair. whats your education? ignorant arts?

  • dumb ass im not going to talk to you because your so stupid. black people in africa all over the world have diffrent textures im sorry your a bama ass

  • Retard, you are not a black person. You cant grow an afro but think you are black? Maybe you are Indian? I know biracials, and even they canh grow afro's. You must be confused

  • ethiopians are full black. we coem in many variations like are hair and skin you are so dumb really

  • Great video *.* ~

  • Thank you for sharing.

Also try Dr. Bonner's Magic Castile Liquid Soap. It's good for the body and the hair and is 100% vegan organic.

  • great video. i am going to try it this weekend

  • my hair is an afro and im not black.

  • Awesome =]

  • dude im black and cant even grow a afro

  • that means you have a good deal of white or other straight haired races in you

  • no you idiot

  • yes it does asshole, im nigerian and we dont have anyone who cant grow afro there. you have too much white in you to be able to grow afro

  • thats because your african african americans are mixed so w/e and ethipians have straight hair you dont have to be mixed smart one diffrent africans have diffrent hair duh and diffrent colors smart one

  • well we dont consider ethiopians black, and you just said aa are mixed so i am right

  • you are so ignorant not all blacks have the same hair texture. get a education

  • fool, pure blacks ( most nigerians) have the same hair ( ie- are all able to grow afro). "Black" americans are mixed with other races and so are much more varied. you get an education

  • no you samrt ass blacks come in many varitions and have diffrent hair tectures no matter were you go

  • have you been to a black country? American Black are generally mixed with white, which is why you see different textures. but these people are not pure black. In america even biracial are considered black, like your new president. That is why you are confused

  • hi bAkamnonu I heard that america's president chose to call himself black but your right that america(most americans not all) likes to call biracial ple black which is wrong because of the one drop rule.I'm multiracial.

  • yeah he did. i read his book. he does that because thats how hes seen in the western world. its a shame, but theres not much that can be done lol

  • what exactly is a pure black... because honestly the term didn't exist until 50 years ago. check yourself. What are you igbo or yoruba. And which are the pure black? anyway you slice it doesn't matter. We are all cousins. I know Nigerians who are bald in their twenties. If you want to separate yourself as special so that you don't feel like those "dirty mixed americans" are your kin, that lies in you my brother not us.

  • igbo..

you misunderstand me. i dont have a problem with mixing, or with americans, BUT, I am confused as to how a person can be unable to naturally grow an afro, yet still consider themselves black?? Or are you in the thinking that the colour of our skin is the only thing that separates races? if so, we are no differant than some indians.

  • What's so confusing about not being able to naturally grow an afro and still considering yourself black. My sister and I have same parents her hair is wavy and lays down mine is kinky and grows up

People fail to realize that you dont have to have non-black to have a texture other than afro texture. There are textures in every African tribe that are different. Just look at the tribes in East, West, North, South Africa. All of them will have wavy, kinky, and some may even have straight. WOW

  • That Eden's product is damn good. It made my hair so soft and shiny. The moment that I put the conditioner in my hair the tingling sensation that I felt almost knocked me off my feet. lol

I'm going to try everything in her hair cair line. I can't believe a girl that young started her own company and has become so successful. And to top it all off it's a black woman. I wish her the best of luck with whatever the future has in store for her and thank you to the person who made this video. :)

  • Dude I'm telling you..The conditioner is the best. I love how it makes my scalp feel. I also like the peppermint oil too =D

  • thank u very much

  • hi, I just got natural. Is it ok to use the blue magic coconut oil cauz it has petroleum in it?

  • Hey Melbl84. I'm glad you went natural. To answer your question, I don't think its a good idea to use anything with petroleum in it. Have you tried 100% coconut oil from a whole foods store? Sure it smells like straight up coconut but it makes hair soft and with shine. You can find it on amazon too =D

  • nice vid......

whats the name of the hairstyle at the end?

    Just twists.(2:34)

Cuz I want To get that Type done by da barber but i dont know how to call it.....

  • At 2:34? There just two strand twist. Just tell your barber you want two strand twist and he'll know what your talking about.

  • Great video--lots of wonderful info and tips! I also loved the format. The pics plus text made for a very effective presentation, while the music made for an extra cool viewing experience!! : ]

    Thanks much! I really enjoyed watching. : }

  • great video and music oh im so in love can you please tell me what music is that

  • Hm I have no clue lol Buuut I got it from youtube before I posted this video.

  • Great video. I will keep in mind the part on using baking soda to wash your hair - I never knew that before. Thanks!

  • great vid, loved it...

  • Thank you! Very informative! I enjoyed those pictures too!

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!great help=)

  • great tips... I co-sign on all of them

  • I find this video very interesting im mixed with black and indian. But my texture of hair is more towards the black side. I love to have my hair natural in a curly fro. But has been discourage but people telling me to straighten it beacuse it looks better since my hair is 16 inches when its straighten. Some of these techniques i use already .I never heard of the apple vinger and baking soda. This may sound weird but alot of indian people do this and black try mixing mayonaise with eggs it works

  • my hair used to be hard to comb but as i grow up it changed it is now long and easy 3 mannage if you want nice hair dont perm or put weave it just plait it and it will grow

  • I have a question though. What about ammonium lauryl sulfate shampoos? I tried using that a while back and it seemed to be doing all right. Just a few minutes ago I washed my hair and it felt wierd when I ran my fingers through it even though it was still wet. Come to find out the new shampoo had that sodium garbage all the way at the bottom of the ingredients :(

But ammonium lauryl sulfate...ok or no?

  • It's about as rough as sls, according to someone else who asked and a few links from Google I sought. You can use it if you like, I'd recommend something without sls/als if you have kinky/nappy hair and see how your hair responds.

  • No, I wish that I had that kinkier hair and thicker hair shafts but I don't. The thing I'm concerned with is breakage. I can try to comb my hair when it's wet, but I saw that for hair texture like mine it stretches hair and makes it even more brittle. If I comb it when it's dry my ends always break off in little bits. Do you have any suggestions?

  • I think this video is a step up from the others telling sistas that they "need" relaxers.

  • Thank you for the post; I didn't know that baking soda and apple cider vinegar were alternatives to over-the-counter shampoos. Good video.

  • I have used apple cider vinegar for years and have only had wonderful results. This is the first time I've heard of baking soda; but hey, that's something to consider. Thank You

  • uuh..I don't use most of that. o_o

  • i think african people have good hair they just dont take care of it. dont exspct your hair to grow if u dont braid it daaaaaaaaaaa!

  • dat vid was quite helpfull cuz alot of hair use to come out ma head

  • I love this music that's playing, who is it? Very informative, thank you, I'm in transition now.

  • wow. u can use stuff from da kitchen to jus do yo hair gud! kewlll healthy and cheap! lol

  • OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've been so tired of seeing all of these other videos about perms and "relaxers" it's been driving me crazy. Thank you so much :0)

    Much love.

  • CUTE video!!!!!

  • Good video!

  • You can teach and old dog new tricks...lol.I keep having those same hairballs after combing & brushing my hair. I have thin hair & I would always have to cut it short to even it. Moisterizer is the name of the game, but how do you keep bees away from sweet smelling tresses in the summertime??lol

  • Uh....noooo!!! Baking Soda, used with a mixture of Apple vinegar cider, and water, is actually THE BEST way to safely cleanse textured hair. As mentioned in the peice, Shampoos containing lauryl suffates, are VERY drying, and damaging to the hair, and strip it of it's natural oils...look it up!:)

  • how much baking soda, vinegar, and water need to be used they left off the measurement amounts?

    Thanks

  • Well 1stly, they're 2 diffrent things: Shampoo(baking soda, water), and rinse (apple cider vinegar, water). Simply measure 1 cup of water, maybe 2, depending on length of hair...for every 1 cup of water add 1 teaspoon of baking soda..and so on. Wash hair regularly.

2step. For every cup of water, add 2 teaspoons of acv..and so on. Rinse after using baking soda mix. This will effectively remove left-over residue from the soda.....

  • Ohhhh!! No wonder it didn't work for me! I used a tablespoon of baking soda. LOL!

  • Lol, um no!! This'crap' is also used in White hair, who's hair is equally damaged by using over-the-counter shampoo's...There's actually a video with a white girl doing it!!

  • no black ppl dont have to put this kind of crap in their hair

  • yea as a kid i always felt bummed out because when my sister did my hair, she put like 8 different products in it and my head would be itchy all day!

  • @Thkmra Actually, no matter how gentle a shampoo is (sulfate-free and all), the stripped feeling is unavoidable -the very act of rinsing the shampoo away with water makes the hair feel stripped. But that is what a shampoo is designed to do - take dirt, dead skin cells and oils away! Of course the hair would feel stripped. Add leave-ins to put the moisture back in. Again, I say SEE Kimmaytube's videos - she cares for her hair with help from science.

  • hi , great video, i do the same routine on my kids hair . i didn't know about the harmful chemicals you mention. Every single product i got seems to contain them. Could you recommend me some brand who do not have petroleum in it, especially leave in conditoners and moisturizers ? is necessary to use ALL before combing (leave-in, moisturizers and oil)? what is the difference between a leave in conditioner and a moisturizer? I live in Italy, we don't have many products available, for afro hair.

  • I take care of my fro differently thanks

  • wonderful, you are teachging me to love my natural

  • Awesome :o).
