When I looked up commercial for this game, I was expecting to be something epic because this game is a great game! I clicked on the U.S version and instead, We get a fat retarded guy who sits on his ass and stuffs himself until he blows up! But Japan did had an epic version!
Haha, I remember this! A disgustingly great commercial for one of the best SNES games of all time! The sequel, "Yoshi's Story" was pretty good, but nowhere near as good as its predecessor. If you have an SNES, this game is an absolute must!
this was one of my favorite games of all time. still one of my favorite games of all time. it was the first game i ever beat single handedly. (i beat all the previous mario games with my brother)

TYPICAL.
Look at the FOUL commercial Americans get and then look at the WONDERFUL Yoshi's Island commercial the Japanese got...It's because most Americans are without both brains AND taste. We don't HAVE to put up with this offal. If enough people let NOA and other companies know that we want the quality goods that Japan gets it would happen...
@djfakt Nice job judging an entire country based on the content of an outdated video game commercial. I am now thoroughly convinced of your deep wisdom and qualifications to critique others.
I actually saw this commercial in fall of 95' IN SCHOOL. Yes, they played it during the commercial break on Channel 1 which a lot of high schools would show back then. Pretty disgusting. A week or so later I was studying and I'm guessing this commercial came on because I heard my mom in the other room say "first you have to watch him eat, then you have to watch him explode?!!" Either way a great game!
I actually saw this commercial way before I viewed Monty Python and the Meaning of Life, and I can see the parallels between this commercial and Mr. Creosote exploding. My sister says that very scene is as gross as hell, but it still makes me laugh. That and the topless women chasing the convict in Meaning of Life.
lawl i remember this commercial, it made me laugh and want the game, the same with super mario RPG old guy rambling on about back in the day games and made it sound epic, wish i could find that commercial on youtube it make my day to see it again, and try to remember it better, as well as the kirby super star boy when i saw that i loved the kirby games so i was all over it
This is disturbing. Yes, this makes me want to frolic as a colored Yoshi through expansive colorful worlds with all-new Yoshi tricks. Of course you can see the connection.
I HATED this commercial. To this day I never even knew which game it was for. I just knew that it was nintendo. I now know it was for YI thanks to Youtube.
I looked at the Japan version of this commercial, and of course, it was way better. the American commercial involved a man with OBESITY! Hm... I wonder why... OH YEAH! Being that America is the most obese country in the world... Still, the American version is FREAKING LOL!!!! (take that Japan)
You probably remembered the censored version, which cut out a great deal of the disgusting footage of the fat man's revolting eating habits. The censored version also eliminated the actual shot of the explosion and the food splattering all over the people's faces.
As it happens, I saw THIS version on TV only once during a very odd hour of the day. Early afternoon, while most kids were still at school. I never saw it again after that, only the edited version.
I agree with you. My mom used to scare me when I was little against overeating by saying that I would end up like that guy who blew up in the commercial (of course I never ate like this guy, I'm still a heavy person but still...)
Like, when people talk about commercials they remember, I describe this and they think I'm just exagerating it and blame it on me being 6 when the game came out.
Now I have proof that this commercial really happened. Thank you.
From what at saw at the first second of the video, that ad was displayed just after a Burger King's one?
That's really appropriate.
