I've never seen Sifu Ma fight, but I'd bet he was very good at it. My reason here is that his skills are evident in his form; where his movements are perfect; his energy is flowing and full; and his mind is focused and fresh.
However, I have seen one of his grand-students, Sifu Robert Rudniak apply these traits in free sparring. And I think he showed real Tai Chi chuan skills because his movements flowed like water, and were both stable, and elegant.
it's a shame HD footage wasn't around when these masters were.

Absolutely! Look at how quick and fluid he is, and perfect balance; obviously his mind is sharp and active....very inspirational.
