These styles and fusing of musical cultures has been going on since the beginning of time, why all the hype? This isn't unique or original. There have been world fusion bands since the 60's that have taken their sound globally and they were unique.

I think the idea and the 'hype' centers around the fact that it is happening more and more and more in the modern age...partly helped by technology of course. 40 years ago I would have only books/popular records or a plane ride to tell me how people play music in, say, India. Now I can go online, listen to uploaded clips on youtube and then leave comments and talk with the guy making it.

As a consequence, these mash ups of new and old are easier to achieve,

I hear people often ask, "what's next for music?" this is the better than an 'answer' I could give! Thank you, more than words can express for posting this!!!
