how much power draw? better said... I want to preheat an engine via coolant of water cooled engine (small say 30hp 3cyl diesel). How many batteries would it take?
What about large windings around an air cooled engine such as a generator engine to preheat that?
@coachgeo Well this was built a couple of years ago (before I had a way of measuring current draw) and since then it has been disassembled. However, my guess would be that it draws about 4-5 amps. I can't help you any further because I haven't researched or done much with induction heaters.
@t3hPoundcake right, so you can stick your finger in there and it wont burn you. unless it was extremely powerful and you have heavy metals in your finger. all it does is creates a magnet, and the magnet turns on and off really quick and makes all the atoms vibrate and rub together (like taking a paperclip and bending it back and forth in the same spot it will make it get warm). the friction makes it heat up.
@bears7777777 Interesting stuff. I guess a simple version of one of these would be an electromagnet with some sort of voltage control, and something to make the current oscillate?
@bears7777777 Presumably it's heated by large eddy currents in the metal. So it would also induce currents in anything conductive. Flesh I understand is to some degree conductive due to the water content, otherwise microwave ovens wouldn't work. Although not the same frequency (I understand microwave ovens use the resonant frequency of water molicules), I'd have thought it must induce some currents. Still, you might not discover any damage until later in life!
thank u very much i though the first coil was the induction coil .... can you make another vid of yur circuit or take a pic i would really appreciate it
I'm gonna take a Wild guess and say that would burn badly I you put your finger in it

what's the current draw ?

i hate that high pitch sound my teeth hurt! ... its like 16000 kHz or more! Damn!
masicklazik 3 months ago
@masicklazik no its 14000 kHz the sound a 16 year old can here.. DERP! the worst thing ever

How did you do it? Any links?

the smoke coming off those screws is phosgene gase. Not healthy, dont inhale directly.

If I'm correct this thing wont' heat anything but metallic objects right?

@t3hPoundcake yes, i think that you can also heat only ferrous metals but i'm not sure
Slic3R1 6 months ago
@t3hPoundcake It can only heat ferromagnetic metals such as iron, nickel and cobalt.

in the description you said 4 mosfets. did you put it in parallel 2 by 2. and for the work coil. what core did you use??
Arjoonmoal 11 months ago
@Arjoonmoal They're parallel and I used a core from a small flyback transformer.
Cyb3rstorm 11 months ago
@Cyb3rstorm CAN i use a toroidal core instead. i don't want to break my transformer
Arjoonmoal 11 months ago
@Arjoonmoal I dont know. Try it.

@scrapkilla321 Sorry but I dissembled it a long time ago.
Cyb3rstorm 11 months ago
@Cyb3rstorm could u tell me how many turns your transformer was and how many amps it needs cause i still get nothing
scrapkilla321 11 months ago
@scrapkilla321 The turn amount is in the schematic and I have no idea what the amperage was. Just remember that i used two 18v batteries.
Cyb3rstorm 11 months ago
could you help me with this i cant get it to work i had it hook up to a flyback first but nothing so i used a 555 timer but it limits it
scrapkilla321 11 months ago
@scrapkilla321 This schematic might help. If you still need help then PM me.

i wanna know how to build one -- plain ass cool

Set that up with current control and it would be awesome.

AWESOME!! exactly what I need... could you please give me schematics... or help me via PM I would much appreciate it!
bobhaha 1 year ago
@bobhaha I could make a schematic made in a few days if I still remember how I build it in the first place.
