I agree with matiseq - it IS the best movie ever made.

my opinion is that the essential beauty of Stalker lies not in the photography framing of the images, but in the cinematography where things live and move. If you hang the frames up on a wall you would miss the most important thing and that is Time itself. Precisely that feeling for Time expressed through cinematography is why Tarkovsky still lives today.

Weird movie. I didn't get it. And why is bringing weapons in to the zone bad? And you never get to see what it is that is so evil. I don't understand this movie. Typical russian govno.

there isn't any evil. the zone isn't evil, it's just an environment which the humans don't know and unterstand, in which they cannot act like in their normal environment. also in the zone they are completely cut off from time and things to do. therefore they begin to really think about themselves and their true wishes in life.

at least thats the zone for me...thank you tarkovski for creating the zone this way. i like your zone much better than the zone of the strugatzkis

Plainly, this is a movie about being at home and not being at home. "Home" in the material sense and "home" in the spiritual sense. It's a film about the terror of homelessness and at the same time about our moral duty to leave our homes once in a while. It's a movie about our complex relation to the world outside and our complex relation to the world inside, and how these two complex relations in a very complex way are related to each other.

'Stalker' is a Russian word (pronounced: Staal'ker) for a specialist who works underground in the maze of tunnels, vents and other structures that service a city. It has nothing to do with stalking.
