i'll tell you what happened, if you watch, looks like Rogers freaking! hits the net at 4:41, just keep hitting 4:41 and let it play for a second then hit it again. He so hit that net!
Rogers got pissed because he assumed he won the point. Keenan flopped as if Rogers made contact with him and interfered with the play. (which he clearly did not) As Rogers was walking away, the ref called the point for Jennings/Keenan. Rogers was surprised as hell and had plenty to say about it.
The ref made the wrong call and Rogers' protest help convince him to change it. Then of course this set off Jennings. He felt the ref let Rogers intimidate him into changing the call.
Todd Rogers is a disgrace to beach volleyball. Sure, he's a phenomenal player and his stats speak for himself, but when it comes to bitching about calls, hes a disgrace. He also talked about how he didnt play in the Manhattan 2010 cause there was no money. He's more about the money than he is the love of the game, so fuck him.
@bbadalik dude fuck you man. he is not a disgrace. he flipped out because the opposing blocker flopped and tried to sell a interference call when there clearly wasnt. he went off because he won the point honestly and it was a game changing point. and so what he didnt play in 2010, this is his job and his main source of income. if he wanted to play for free, he would go to play pick up games, not play in a tourney with no money. you piece of worthless shit. no one cares about you. Not even jesus
I really think Jennings acts that way to fire himself and his partner up. Also, I'm sure it helps him get calls in the future when a ref is on-the-fence about a call. It has to be in the back of their mind.
jennings really has no reason to be pissed off (even tho he is a firey guy)...there was absolutle no chance for keenan to make a play on the ball, cuz he didn't even make a good dig in the first place.
second, rogers didn't even go on the other side, if anything he is directly under the net which is fair game, just incidental contact
Oh yeah, thanks for posting this. I had heard about Casey's explosion and was hoping to actually see it. Sometimes, a little fire is fun to watch. It reminds of Hovland, but I do think it was not called for him to go at the ref like that after the match was over. He yelled at the ref that he was scared, but that is not logical because they all know how Casey is and he was not scared of him. The ref knew it was a "damned if you do; damn if you don't" situation; so they made the right call.
Now that Rogers has coached Dalhausser from being a one-victory player to the best player and definite MVP in the world now, I think there a few other players who have matured and raised their level of defense to dominate with Dalhausser as well. Jennings is one of those players (along with Hyden and Lucena), but he may never get the credit he deserves as player because there are really are no big guys on the tour like Phil. He's like Kerri. Great, tall blocker who is quick like cat.
I can understand Jennings frustration because he has lost to this team SO many times. To add insult to injury, his old partner has won an event this year. However, you have got to maintain a certain level of objectivity. It seems Jennings argument was that the up-ref had already made the call, right or wrong, and that the up-ref's call remains supreme; however, the up-ref has the right to ask for help from the other refs in order to make the correct call.
Do you mean, "it's not a fair play"? The way I saw it, Rogers didn't come close to touching Keenan. He just collapsed in a odd way that got the ref's attention. He shouldn't have made that call in the first place but reversing it set Jennings off.
