  • P L I Z Z Z Z Z Z...........never never never even try to wake Terry up in his deep slumber

  • something doesnt sound right here

  • I saw Chicago in 1981 (?) and I think Robert Lamm sang Colour My World. It wasn't as good as the original but it was pretty good and faithful to the original.

  • I have to say that I like Bill's version of this song. And that is exactly what it is, his version, his interpretation of the song. I have heard Bill do this song, more straight, and I enjoy both versions. What we all need to keep in mind, is that each singer, has there own way of interpreting a song. This is Bill's, and yes it is very different from the others but that doesn't make it bad.

  • La superbanda Chicago, paso a la historia como una referencia obligada de la buena música popular.

  • JEEZUS, I just threw up on my keyboard! I read Danny Seraphine's book, and he said Champlin really oversang this, but this is a disgrace to Terry and every other vocalist. Worse than I ever imagined.

  • @fry9700 Yeah, Seraphine was funny - - he said to Bill, "I'll stop over-playing when you stop over-singing."

  • Loose the puke who sang here. This is such a beautiful classic and this puke ruined it!

  • It's not Terry, but I LIKE IT! Nice job Bill.

  • bill did okay, but it does not compare to terry kath's performance of the song.

  • This was my wedding song back in 1974.

  • This guy should've been locked up for ruining this song!! This is awful!!

  • Dont forget. They were all laced up on coke during this period.

  • Problem is, no one Chicago has put up to sing this song can sing it well... Bill disliked it, so he sang it that way. Robert croons his way through it like a cheesy hotel lounge singer, and Lee sounds like a typical kareoke bar singer. There are people who can do it very well, but they aren't with Chicago.

  • In a word: HORRIBLE!

Is this guy kidding or what! Okay, so he's not Terry; we get that, but what the hell was he trying to prove? It was like listening to Whitney Houston ruin the National Anthem at the Super Bowl just because she was trying to put her style on it! Some things are better-left on their own; this song is one of them. Either sing it the way it was intended, or don't sing it at all!

Jeez Champlin, what the hell were you thinking?????

  • I like Champlin as a singer. HOWEVER at least on this example he tries so hard to do all the vocal acrobatics he completely loses the melody and feel of the song. Sometimes less is more. I've heard him do it "straight" other times and its not bad.

  • Hey, no son viejitos...son Jovenes Adultos!! La canción es preciosa en letra y música.Un verdadero Himno al Amor. Felìz Dìa de San Valentìn celebrando el Dìa del Amor y la Amistad en el mundo!! Just a beautiful and tender song of Love in music and lyrics..forever and ever keep colouring my world!!

  • No one is asking Champlin to sound just like Terry Kath. I wouldn't characterize that performance as "making it his own." I'd call it, "making it all about him." (I wonder, is Champlin trying to compensate for something?) What the hell - it's ancient history anyway. I'm just glad he's gone.

Untll they show Scheff the door I'll remain,

    An ex-Chicago fan

  • no one can sing this song like Terry RIP

  • Why they let Champlin sing is beyond me! For the love of God, Lamm should be singing this song...PERIOD!

  • "My arpeggio! You've ruined my beautiful arpeggio!"

  • Yea...he's trying to hard.....way to much trailing that does not match neither his talent nor the song

  • Freddie Cruger..oops I mean Bill Champlin sounds like he needs to take a huge poop because he looks and sounds like the south bund end of a north bound cow.

  • Not another song this turd ruined... Horrible job. Damn it Champlin leave terry's songs alone. Damn It!

  • Este tema es acojonante,es especial la parte de flauta, llevo 35 años escuchando a este fabuloso grupo, nunca me canso, realmente fabuloso, gracias al sr o sra,que ha colgado este video

  • I just saw these guys perform in Chicago like 5 hours ago and it was unlike any show I've ever seen in my life. You have to see these guys live to know what they're about. Man it was so sensational, played from the heart and so meaningful. It touched my heart. This has changed my life. They know what they're doing and my god its just beautiful

  • VIEJITO? TU ABUELITO, LA MUSICA NO ENVEJESE NUNCA.

  • A lot better when when Robert sings it.

  • terry kath was great but bill champlin was great too you know the truth if they wanted to get someone to sound like terry the sould have had lee lougnane how ever you spell his name to sing kaths parts cause he sounds like terry more than anybody in that band

  • Terry kath was a great singer but bill champlin was another flavor that was added that made chicago and even better band pete and bill was a great combo if you want to talk about a band that has had a problem replacing a member lets talk about JOURNEY neal schon cant find anyone to sound like the voice STEVE PERRY

  • meravigliosa : magica

  • he's a great singer.. but live singers always seem to mess up the classics..

  • Yeah, Bill Champlin "makes it his own" alright. He made Chicken salad into chicken shit

  • @fayette202, sorry to here you feel that way, and no I'm not tone deaf nor related to Bill. I guess we all just have your own taste in singing and food to me he turned chicken salad into chicken gourmet.

  • @fayette202 he does ok on this, he just took it and made it his own, just like with Dennis Edwards, when Dennis replaced David Ruffin in The Temptations, he took those songs and made them his, no one can sing My Girl like David, none can sing this like Terry, but Robert does a damn good job on this song and id rather hear him do this, but Bill sounds ok to me he just has a different style than Terry or Robert

  • @fayette202 I don't think I've ever read something as funny as you wrote, OR as true. well done and THANKS for your comment !! *****

  • Anyone who likes the bc performance is either tone deaf or related to him .

  • I saw Chicago four times in the 70's. This video is a prime example of why I don't go anymore . There's a fine line between making a song your own and making a mess of it. Needless to say, I'm glad BC is gone.

  • chicago for ever

  • I like this version of Colour my world, no it's not Terry but Sir is right Bill makes it has own and thats a good thing. Right now Chicago has Lee Loughnane singing it and it is not good at all if you want to see bad version of it check it that out. Oh, and to all those complaining about Bill doing this song, you will never have to hear it again as Bill is no longer with Chicago.

  • I agree. People take this stuff way too personally, too. As a matter of fact Bill Champlin was asked to sing this song when he joined the band, and he is quoted saying he was a bit disappointed as he wasn't fond of it. Bill didn't "steal" anything. It's a Chicago song, he joined the band and he sung it in his own style.

  • Oh no, this is NOT good. Not for this song!!

  • The song was Terry Kath's song... BC should stay the hell away from it period... Bobby Lamm has sang it before with perfection, and should sing it now.. Champlain -- no... Lamm -- yes. Case closed.

  • Sorry, but thats too spicy for me. Terry Kath is still my favourite singer of this song! This was a experment without a good result!

  • To the last few commentators, would you really want some else to try to sound like Terry Kath. Bill Champlin makes this song his own, and adds his flare to it. No he does not sound like Terry, he Sounds like Bill, and that is in my opinion a good thing.

  • Bill Champlain is the worst singer I've ever heard anytime he tries to sing a Terry Kath song. Shame on him and shame on Chicago. I do not know what they see in him. He's awful.

  • The singer totally destroyed this song. He just didn't "get it" emotionally. He over fluctuated and put all these fake BS melodramatic emotions into the mix, where the original flatness of the song portrayed the meaning much better. Just my humble opinion.

  • Yup. Bill Champlain has this really annoying way of being melodramatic and embellishing, that it's at times laughable.

  • Don't apologize for your opinion. You're in the majority. If you look across all the comments there are more who dislike this vocal than like it. No one expects him to do it exactly like Kath did, but adding endless grace notes at inappropriate times - it's distracting and annoying. He's drawing attention to himself rather than getting the listener to think about the words of the song.

  • destroyed vocally, as the comment below said, no vulnerability

  • This song makes me happy/sad at the same time. its so pretty. I can play it on my flute but i just someone to play the piano :(

  • What Terry and Robert understood about this song is that they have to bring some *vulnerability* to this song. It's that first moment when the guy goes to the girl, puts himself out on a limb and says for the first time, you know, I really... really *love* you.

Bill is an effective vocalist usually, but this song doesn't work without that sense of vulnerability.

  • Yes' it's beautiful. Great band.

  • This is "our" song. We fell in love in 1972 and had this song in our wedding in 1973.

Chicago is one of the best bands ever.

  • This was "our" song too at my wedding in 1978....The marrigae ended in 2005, so this song obviously has bittersweet memories...

  • My favorite song of all time, and that is saying alot.

It always sounds better, each time I hear it. I heard them sing this at the Garden in '74 and it was absolute magic! Lalahymbird

  • my girl freind tout me to play it on the piano in 1975 i remember good she was nude.

  • This is my parents' wedding song. 33 years and counting. They'll both get up and dance when they hear this song.

  • That's pretty awesome :D

  • Great version Bill!

  • Yeah, Bill's voice is not suited for this song. Not the right feeling. Too rough. Ugh!

  • just an awful version... ugh

  • I recorded this song for my girlfriend and posted a video. I welcome all to take a look and please comment if you like it. I play all the instruments: piano, bass, drums, and vocals. see video comments above. Thanks

  • I know it's only one gals opinion (mine) But Colour My World will ALWAYS be Terry Kath. RIP Sweetie.

  • Bythe,I agree with you... Mr Kath had a warmth in his voice that Bill( who ever his is) will never match

  • I don't like Bill covering this song. Robert is much better at it.

  • weres peter??

  • This was my wedding song in 1973, my wife passed away 2 years ago and everytime I listen to it I cry...like now!

  • HOW BEAUTIFUL. THAT'S TRUE LOVE...

  • This was my wife's and my wedding song too in 1978. We had seen the band on many ocassions during our 27 years of marriage. We're no longer together, but the song still brings back the good memories.

  • this version sucks big tyme....i old was the best and this version kills that smooth vibe...i would never buy this version of this song..

  • You got that right

  • It's a good thing we're all entitled to our own opinions. I love hearing Bill sing this song.

  • A very simple song. It's nice to hear a new spin on it. It always needed a kick!

  • a little over the top Bill?....Ruined it completely....awful vocals

  • Champlin even said in the eighties he never liked this song much. I would bet its safe to say he sang it this way to add his own flare to the song to make him like it a bit more. IDK.

  • He might like it a bit more - but I like it a lot less.

  • Lamm does it now, and he sounds like a total lounge lizard leisure suit Larry. Champ nails it to the wall. I had heard a version of Bill doin Saturday in the Park that I would love for someone to post

  • Lamm keeps the Chicago routes in the songs he sings. Champlin's not bad in this performance, but you shouldnt down Lamm.

  • Terry would've been spewing to hear Colour My World sung in this terrible fashion and cursing Champlin from this day on... :P

  • i think that terry would've loved it, but neither of us are in the situation to make such claims. much like champlin, terry stood for the soul, or guts, of this band. ok, so champlin turns it into a new song - his song - but isn't that what's music is all about, keeping it fresh? i think it would've been almost distasteful to find a kath clone, singin it note by note like the original. terry did it like terry, bill did it like bill. now robert does it like robert. get used to it.

  • Way to go! You're SO RIGHT with this statement!

  • You're right. It's horrible and best kept unsung.

  • this is the way to sing this song. really good vocal stylings from bill champlin.

  • OMG wtf awful awful awful how could they allow this

  • I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm so glad Champlin is gone. If they get someone in there who can actually sing, who knows - maybe they'll sell some records.

  • Thoroughly a piece of shit. Champlin and the other replacements should allow Lamm to sing the old Chicago tunes.

  • i am lookin for a divrent song but i thurt thiz waz it but it waz'nt...hehe

    but great

  • It was fine until 1:29, then he did that freaky diva thing...I can't figure out why people like him...he's ruined every song he's sung live, that I've seen.

  • What a horrible rendition of a beautiful song. He totally buthcered it. He over-sang it. Just terrible.

  • Love Bill, but I want Robert on this song.

  • who's on the flute at the end? it's beautiful!

  • Walter Parazaider.

  • Actually this was a pretty darn good BC version of this song. I heard him butcher it many times and prefer Robert Lamm to sing it, but this is actually really good...

  • My good friend, this is an awsome and classic video, I have the CD record of 1985 last Cetera live concert with the band and this song is inlcuded..amazing!!!..

  • Hey Guncontrol2006, I totally agree with you. However the "Mariah Carey" post was in response to tuttlemsm saying Bill fills a "style" void left by Kath's voice for the most part---

  • But what I was going to say was, at least Lamm CAN pull off the Kath vocals very, very closely

  • Yeah I think he could do it okay. He stays true to the original persona of the song. Tone and style together. Lamm is great.

  • Walter Parazaider sounds a lot like Terry when he talks. They have the exact same accent. It's kind of hard to explain, but its a very old time tough guy way of talking. end knuw dat yr hr

  • the diference is that terry voice sets the moment

     and bills kills the moment

  • I have to say your right...Bill SHOULD NOT sing the material he had nothing to do with. Lamm fits the vocals nowadays much better. I went this year and heard them in Cincy Ohio and hen Make Me Smile was playing with Champlin's vocals I nearly died. Lamm had done Colour my World before this, and I was confused why he didn't do all of Terry's old vocals.

But i also gotta say Champlin's voice was WAY better here than now.

  • That should also be with Jason Scheff singing Cetera's stuff. Oh wait that's about 3/4 of there hits. lol

  • I've met Jason Scheff before at90percent, and he's a great guy. And he'll never be able to do Cetera's vocals perfectly.

But that's where Cetera kind of screwed these guys royally, leaving them right when his vocals where a chart topping factgor for the band.

  • missepelled - their lol

  • Yup you're right. Even this time it was terrible because I understand Champlin loves to ad-lib and add more soul to songs but this was not the kind of song to do that. I loved how Terry Kath sung this song so simply and so tranquil. Champlin sounded like he was barking in a sense. His style is good... Just NOT for this song. Should've been Robert Lamm. He'd be the closest one to Kath with sound and style as I've said before.

  • someone give Champlin a gun to clean!!!

  • That's NOT funny.

  • Bill fills a "style" void left by Kath's voice for the most part--- R&B--- but Lamm is the best choice to sing the song currently. Lamm sounds closer to Kath's approach, and Lamm has the cred going back to Chicago II to do one of their very oldest tunes.

  • I never quite got into that "Mariah Carey" style of vocals where they do all these triplets all over the place in the melody. For me Terry sounds like some regular guy singing to his girl. That's more real for me. I'm not disagreeing with you, I think it might be more a matter of personal preference.

  • True...but 4 some reason, it seems like every song Champlin redoes that Kath orginally did, he adds way to many pitches for one word. Just watch the Dialogue video with the current Chicago. Everybody does great but it bugs me the way Champlin does his pitching lol.

But I guess ur right...personal preference on singing styles.

  • Bill knocked this one out of the park, as he does everything else he touches. I fyou want the album, listen to CTA and don't go to the show.

  • It's like the first time I heard Jason sing the songs Peter sang. It threw me at first. I thought that he could never compare to Peter, but Jason's got his own style. I love Jason's voice.

  • Robert Lamm comes about as close to sounding like Terry and usually does this song live now rather than Bill covering it. Bill is a terrific singer likewise is Jason Scheff

  • I think he sang the live in japan version 1984 much better but if you never heard Kath sing it your right it would not be that bad I just love the obscure stuff we don't see much of thanks again.

  • This isn't as bad as I thought it would be...Bill's a fine singer, but we will always hear Terry singing this calssic in our hearts.

  • You're right, BC is an excellent musician. But I think this song is not for him.

  • Yeah, but I think if I had never heard Terry singing it Bill's version would be quite memorable. He's got a great soulful voice. But there will never be a more soulful Chicago singer than Terry Kath. He was totally unique.

  • Bill Champlin is a Great Singer and Artist but not in a Terry Kath kind of way

  • I agree Howland sounds moore like Homer Fudpucker

  • seems like champlin butchered this up.

  • Maybe. But nothing compares to Keith Howland "singing" if you leave me now. Really sucks!!

  • I think Keith is a fine singer and I love his version IYLMN, but we're all entitled to our own opinion...

  • Thanks alot love this version
