I am personally pro-EU, I think France and Germany manage their economies much more effectively than ours has been managed since the Second World War, but if a treaty could damage the interests of the City of London, it is only right we should back out of it.

However, I think De Gaulle was right. He always said that the UK was never going to be a properly commited EU member and let's not say our Governments have been behaving as such.

The UK would not have the standard of living we have today without a strong financial centre, whilst everyone attacks the banks and their various risky practices, the increase in the standard of living from the late 1980's onwards, was largely a result of the banks being prepared to lend more money.
