People who object to the costumes are reacting without realizing that these skaters are acting about an era when people wore these costumes and beards, etc. How does that relate to the present day and what people wear today? The discussion is irrelevant to this lovely interpretation of a Sholem Aleichem story/play/musical. Everyone today seems to be anxious to criticique about religious traditions and values whether it is on topic or not.
I thought this was going to be about famous figure skaters who happen to be Jewish. It was sent to me by a very observant Jewish friend who knows I really follow the sport seriously. Although it wasn't what I expected to see, I enjoyed it with the musical selections.
The skating was brilliant but other than the men's costumes, the women's were not right. Jewish women dressed simply and certainly modestly and dressed differently than the Russian women whose costumes are depicted here.
Who cares what Hassidim think? Any group who believes you need to wear a uniform and grow ugly long beards to segregate themselves from society is asking for trouble. Yes, I'm Jewish but I live in this century!

@TuneInTurnOnDropOutt I respect them but I confess I find long beards so disgusting I can hardly look at them. I don´t like beards in general but long ones are a hellish sight,arrgh

@vostro68 I woudn´t say they are exactly like muslims due to the good influence of european values on their communities over a thousand years but they do stick to the dangerous retrogade values which two thousand years ago also included beheadings and stonings, which muslims copied from and still practiced in many muslim countries.Just Ashkenazi´s Judaism was lucky to get secularist, progressive influences from the West and this made a huge difference for the better,even with these awful beards.

It is a good work but the Hassidic and haredim community would not appreciate seeing a scantily clad woman. Why doesn't she have on full clothes like everyone else?
