No offense to anyone but I'm surprised to see such intelligent arguments on this video. Most people just argue with personal insults but people here are actually presenting real arguments.
Just kidding, he is as bad as McCain...perhaps worse fiscally. You will see an economic collapse if he finagles his way into office and a quick movement towards socialism.
WAKE UP! EDUCATE YOURSELF ON ECONOMICS AND ESPECIALLY THE CONSTITUTION AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PRESIDENT AS DICTATED BY THE CONSTITUTION.
Oh, I am so glad you brought up the constitution. It says the government is to be ran by the will of the people. The people in power are supposed to do our will. The majority of the american people want us to leave Iraq, and Bush and McCain will not listen. That is a direct violation of the constitution.
plug in cars still use electricity, electricity that is made from fossil fuels, what we really need is the water-car that runs on hydrogen and makes water as a waste product. im glad Obama is looking at other fuels though
Huge voltage is required to split water to produce hydrogen and oxygen. Some of that energy is released in the process you describe, thus powering your car. For every joule of energy available to power the car another joule was previously required to produce, compress, and liquefy the hydrogen for the fuel cell.
you could set up a deal with canada to buy masive amounts of hydro electricity. It's better then buying from the middle east, it's clean and will never run out. We only use 5 to 10% of our hyro potential. And solar panelse set up in the dessert and along highways can provide LOTs of electricity. Hydrogen is made from elctricity and is VERY HARD to store safely. Hydrogen is a means of turning electricity into fuel. You would get more enerygy using straight electricity.
You better hurry up Mr. Censorship! You're falling behind!! You wouldn't want to give the impression that no one has commented on this videos for over 4 hours!
Bio fuels are not a good idea full stop. There is no way ANYONE can allow themselves to take food from a population to feed another population's cars.
The need for energy independence is a beautiful notion but with such a large consumer country that is the USA, full energy independence is basically impossible. You can drill all you want in the Gulf of Mexico but until the US chooses a energy plan that has little to do with petrol you wont be able to cut down on middle eastern petrol and their ridiculous prices. Sen. Obama understands this without ignoring the very realy fact that America is still VERY petrol dependent. Lets vote for the future
I am tired of Obama calling us ordinary people. Does he think he's better then the American People. It just shows how little respect he has for this country and the awsome people that make up the United States of America.
John, thank you for focusing on Energy Independence. Every single day, we are sending Billions of American citizen's dollars over to the Middle East and other foreign countries. Americans have less money and the enemy has more money. We need to stop importing oil! Whether it be more drilling at home or electric cars, we need energy independence!
I want any single elected official in Washington to propose a bill that would regulate the price of gasoline. It will either go to vote or the companies will cave on their own. And as a bonus it will scare the speculators on Wall Street. And I, and most people in this country say "Let them drill." The Chinese are drilling in the carribean anyways. AND build nuclear power plants. There are scientific methods to clean nuclear waste.
Biofuels are the best short/medium term solution to the energy crises in the west however there's also a food crises and using biofuels could exacerbate it..
Biofuels don't have to be corn based, there are much better crops to harvest for biofuels that yield 3-4 times as much fuel as corn. It's still not going to solve the energy crisis on it's own but it will certainly help.
There is a brighter prospect still out there: cellulosic ethanol. It is made from feedstocks rich in cellulose, such as wood, various grasses and shrubs, and agricultural wastes. Turning it into ethanol requires expensive enzymes, but much research is under way to make the process cheaper.
Senator, we are working hard to lift up our own community. We thank you so much for your belief in us and we are inspired by you to work hard for America and our common values. Obama supporters are out there to lift up their schools, churches, and businesses. I am so happy that our country has a chance to heal and have meaningful discussions on our energy crisis. It is up to We the People (and not any one politican) to work to make this happen. God bless. Obama '08
Its too bad wind and sun energy generate practically no power and require ridiculous amounts of money to make and install. they aren't efficient and aren't affordable to 99% of Americans
This is a great video. It's refreshing to see a politician actually discussing issues rationally and reasonably, without conflating polemics with policy.
Corn based biofuels is one of the worst ideas ever conceived to solve the energy problem. That is one thing I strongly disagree with Obama on. But I guess Iowa voted for him so he must. But, I'm still voting for Obama, he is awesome! :-)
Ethanol made from sugar cane, by contrast, is good. It produces far more energy than is needed to grow it, and Brazil, the main producer, has plenty of land available on which to grow sugar without necessarily reducing food production or encroaching on rain forests.
we have bllions of barrels of oil..duh..why pay our enemies for oil???doesnt make sense...we have the technology to get oil out of the ground safely...the rest of the world uses the technology we created...duh..wake up..dont leave it up to the government to solve this problem..
Corn-based ethanol is neither cheap nor green. It requires almost as much energy to produce (more, say some studies) as it releases when it is burned. And the subsidies on it cost taxpayers, according to the International Institute for Sustainable Development, somewhere between $5.5 billion and $7.3 billion a year.
I don't remember hearing him say anything about corn based (in this video). There are far greater sources of biofuels which I hope he was referring to in this video.
i totally agree with you i'm a big obama supporter, but i totally disagree with the ethnol idea as well, its not the solution! not that i would know, lol!
Vamos Obama!! SI PODEMOS!!!
No offense to anyone but I'm surprised to see such intelligent arguments on this video. Most people just argue with personal insults but people here are actually presenting real arguments.
It's actually sort of eerie.

well reasoned speech, particularly at the end. My lone complaint is that I am not convinced with the idea of biofuels.

I agree. Corn based biofuels is not the same thing as sugarcane based biofuels as in Brazil. Growing corn is associated with global warming too.
But I still am still voting Obama. Just keep the Republicans OUT. We've had enough with their lies and incompetence.
