@debraschnabel pfft, David is an amateur musician, and while he does have a really great voice, Chris is just a legendary singer and Chris' version is awesome
No one has anything on Chris Cornell, he's just the man. But Scream sucked, I didn't like it at all, I knew I wouldn't because it was produced by that tim guy. I think Chris is just trying to stretch out farther and farther to other ways of playing and singing, eventually I think he'll snap back to his roots.
ya pretty much eh. chris wouldnt have done this 5 yrs ago. so they calliberated because chriss career is come to a hault. but whatever see what happends i guess.
i don't think that was his intention. listen to the song "scream", and you'll see that he was probably talking about making something new, something not heard before, like he always has. i think that was trying to do with his "billie jean" version
(to mrbig71014) Yeah, I think you're right. Besides, I doubt Cornell thinks he needs any more money...he's had amazing success with Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave. He's just trying something new, and I'm eager to hear the end result.
"Cornell left Audioslave to pursue his own career, going mainstream" - are you high? Tons of people threw a tantrum when Audioslave first came out, and now they can't shut up about how much they miss it. The cycle repeats when Cornell decides to play with someone else. If Cornell is well known and risks alienating his huge soundgarden and audioslave fan base then he is everything but greedy. Lastly, you can add commentary and say i originally replied to that, but it just proves youre retarded.
i can take yr point for the risking fanbase part,it is a huge risk which could go either way.I cant work out if you appreciate chris cornell or if you slate him? You dont seem to like Audioslave. He did leave it to pursue his own career, thats an actual fact! Rage announced they wer performing two weeks before Cornell sed he was leaving but overall he'd been wanting it for a while.I dont get why your so sure im retarded, ive simply stated an opinion so dont shoot me down with personal offence.
My point is that Cornell always starts bands, people start alot of drama and then the music turns out to be great. RATM was a terrible band, but when Cornell joined he transformed it into a whole new band. Morello had a stupid guitar riff on jewel of the summertime and then Cornell said "you let me down now its time to go" and then he was long gone. Cornell is probably gonna do this 1 album with tim,2 at the most before he gets bored, just enjoy the fact he is putting out great music faster.
i love chris cornell but he is a greedy greedy man! timbalands used to boost nobodys into mainstream, cornell doesnt need this! this is why it cant really be taken seriously!
You know if it was anyone else that both of us enjoyed listening to, I would have to murdered you already. Cornell is invulerable to your wrongful opinions. whats yr point? Chris Cornell is my favourite artist of all time and i actually own timbalands album and do like his other stuff, mix timbaland together with cornell and i dont think it works. This makes me a retard?
Cornell left Audioslave to pursue his own career, going mainstream boosting himself to even more popularity but to the people who arent going to appreciate his old work. So basically you replied to me to say im a fool for stating the obvious...

What crap. Its all a reflection of market driven music. Cornell used that wankfest Michael Jackson song to reeach a mainstream audience and now he is releasing a club album. What a sell out
just because its Timbo it doesn't mean that Cornell is gonna go 'sexyback'?!?! if you hear what Tim did with Bjork on her Volta album it's good it's her essence mixed up and spiced up with dance/hiphop style but in a very Bjork way, Dylan electrified acoustic folk in the 60's and hardcore folk fans were mad as hell...so don't let prejudice win you over

I think that has always been the problem with AI fans is that they are way too entranced in the bubblegum pop world, and don't really know great music. Chris Cornell was the lead singer of Sound Garden during the Seattle glory days of Grunge Rock, and formed a band with former Rage Against the Machine members called Audioslave. If you don't know any of these bands either, it's a shame, and you should look them up.
dude... do me a favor. Check out this vid on youtube, & them tell me that this is the same arrangement: "David Cook Chris Cornell Duet"
It's not all that simular. I personally think that Cook sings this way better, but that's my ear. 56 MILLION voters can't ALL have bad ears & taste. I'm sure there are a lot of singers out there that appeal 2 a good many people, but that's not the point. What mattters is what people like, what they want 2hear and what they will pay for. Cook's better 2 most.
First I want to thank CC for having composed such an amazing version of the song. Then I think that DC sang a very good rendition of CC's version. I want to remark that DC did not create that version of BJ, it's a CC's work.
1) chris cornell and timbo = OHMYGAWD!! i can't wait to hear this. and it better live up to the hype, too. i want some new, unimaginable genre! lol
2) why on earth does every little moron (sorry people, but you deserve it) have to compare an AI contestant with whoever's song he sings?!? if the david cook was a rock star, he wouldn't be competing on AI, now, would he. he obviously sang cornell because he likes cornell, not because he wants to be compared to him. (cont.)
and he prepped the minute-thirty song for a week, tops, and performed it once. he didn't do a studio recording of it, nor sing it live multiple times. so why one earth are people comparing a tv talent show with a full-fledged musician as if to tell us something significant?
it would only be significant if the AI contestant was to blow the recording artist out of the water. which doesn't happen all too often, given the nature of the show and what it's about.
I didn't know who Chris Cornell was until Cook sang this song, so Chris owes a little gratitude to David for bringing him a little more exposure. Chris's composition really is brilliant, as was David's rendition. Perhaps the two should pair up more.
David Cook really rocked this version of Billy Jean. To be honest I have never heard of Chris Cornell, but now I am going to go out and buy something of his. He obviously is an amazing talent. Thank you to David Cook for introducing me to Chris Cornell, and David, I really hope you win American Idol. You are the most original, talented contestant in seven years on this show. You deserve to win.
Just because Timbaland is well known to produce, make, and perform Hip Hop music doesn't mean he doesn't know how to produce other musical genres. Like Mr. Cornell said in Part 1: "A great song is a great song." It doesn't matter what the genre is or who makes it.
i cannot wait for this damn album to come out...timbaland knows how to make something sound good, and chris cornell... well, he's chris fuckin cornell.

I'm in the music business and my point of view is obviously not your view, but I hate Hip Hop. I know where it came from, but where it went is a joke.
It hasn't gone anywhere. The integrity has been compromised in the mainstream (just as it does with ANY genre),but the essence of the original artform still exists and is thriving with artists such as The Roots, Pharoahe Monch,Common,Nas,Talib,Mos Def,Lupe Fiasco, and many others ..I don't allow the commericalized;dilluted force fed element corrupt my perception of what's available. Naturally, detractors only do this with Rap.If I let the easily accessible Rock dictate my perception ...cont
cont ...of what's out there, I'd be lead to believe that Nickleback was true Rock music ..(notice how silly that sounds?). Let us not forget the infusion HH has created through it's influence ...Trip Rock (Portishead, Tricky, etc..), most Neo- Soul possesses elements of Hip as well. Everywhere you look you are submerged in some facet of Hip- Hop in one form or another.Remember this when you turn to MTV and see some 18 yr old kid rapping and automatically assume that THIS is where HH is now ..
and im sure youve heard all that hip hop has to offer, and you can accurately make a sweeping judgment that you do not like any of it and that anything that could possibly be put into that category in the slightest shall be discarded and shunned by you and your associates. Very nice.
Chris is a musicial genius he knows what he's doing, don't criticize until you have heard it. However it does seem like a fall, selling into the lameness of timbaland etc... but whatever I will judge when I hear it.
lol but he did say this is the most excited hes been in 12 years, hint hint after SG broke up, that was cool, he knows better not to compare anything to Soundgarden or Temple of the Dog, those bands ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE UNTOUCHABLE.
I literally couldnt breathe when I heard Chris had a BIG announcement to make, looking at my name, you can tell what I thought it was going to be...but then I heard what it was, and I dont know what to say, I am truly at a loss for words, it just doesnt make sense...it just doesnt....Now because of the direction hes going, I dont think I want him to reform with SG, I dont think Thayil would be onboard for it anyways.
Cook only sang for like a minute and he was pushing way too hard, you could hear the strain. If he sang that in the middle of a three hour concert he couldn't hit it. Cornell could do it in his sleep.
please dont chris cornell NO TIMBALAND, i dont wanna hear chris singin bout shawty in da club. i guess its all about the dollar now. very dissapointing, trade you guitar in for a beat maker :(
I've been laughing at the 'chris singin bout shawty in da club' for the last ten minutes.
Oh my god what if Chris' idea of pushing the lines doesn't just stop with the collaboration with Timbaland, but he would actually do some rap and stuff yo yo.
i think david done it better than chris. it was an awesome performance. i havent ever liked american idol until this year because of david cook. it wont matter if he wins he will still sell albums.
Absolutely, & so did Chris Cornell & his fans or they wouldn't be making this overblown huge issue over it. People don't make issues over nothing unless it's for a reason. :)
yeah, if you heard part 1.. chris says Randy Jackson is his friend!? Randy didn't acknowledge Chris' work in the show - he was the first one to give Cook the praises he did. major brownie points taken away from randy - chris should give him an earful.

I agree, David Cook did nothing wrong, and Chris is not upset so his fans should really chill. David sang it great and that is all that should matter on this show.
This was definitely great to hear. It's very gracious of Chris to be so understanding and complimentary. I love the way David sang the song and think he's a talented guy, but it's nice that there was a follow up to get Chris' real comments/thoughts on the whole situation. Thanks for posting this!

Amen.Soundgarden was the 90s as far as I'm concerned. I wish Shepard, Thayil, and Cameron would form a new band.

Cornell could do it in his sleep.

exactly! thats why chris is so amazing! and i cant wait until his new solo album comes out!

David sang it great and that is all that should matter on this show.

thanks for posting! chris liked it. david didnt steal anything. he never claimed it as his own. it was the fault of the judges.

This was definitely great to hear. It's very gracious of Chris to be so understanding and complimentary. I love the way David sang the song and think he's a talented guy, but it's nice that there was a follow up to get Chris' real comments/thoughts on the whole situation. Thanks for posting this!
