Most people don't understand, (Or who never played THIS R-Type game), that the "slowdown" is actually IN the game. It's because of the way it was made, during the time the system could only do so much in FPS, of course being the Super Nintendo, yea, it's going to slow down at times because of so many enemies in the screen. Plus, if it's not due to the FPS, It could've been programmed in the system to do that anyway. Last I checked and read on something, it's the FPS, due to the system quality.

Actually, you'll find many slowdowns happening not only in this game but also in games like Super Mario World for displaying too many sprites (enemies and/or most moving objects) at a time. I can recall 2 levels in Super Mario World where it slows down.

I think that alot of you cats today don't understand how hard it was to code a game like this to take complete advantage of the hardware! they did not have 4 gigs of ram and limitless processor speed to churn out things like we see today. it's hard to believe that this whole game could be less than 3 megs but it is! JookieJenkins if I could give you five thumbsups I would. This soundtrack....man. Between Gradius 3, this game, any Sonic The Hedgehog games.....my first true love of music came from these games. Long before I even knew any of the math behind music. Now that I know the math, it's like a thousand times better. Timeless. Crazy that I can find the music from a video game more entertaining that some stuff you hear on the airwaves. Sad. That last stage's music? Luv it!

Super R-TYPE must have a slightly greater tolerance for this kind of stuff, though... I've have greater penalties, for LESS wall-scraping and bullet-strafing in R-TYPE III, where I'd blow, if an enemy just LOOK my way, which had me lift a sceptic eyebrow, as I saw several bullest searing deep through several pixel of your ship and "nose" buried deep into walls, there.

just playin this game makes my head hurt. I past hard and then the game continues to pro which basically is impossible to beat after a cruel hard mode lol. That was amazing how u did not get hit at all. Looks like you got hit a couple of times though because the ship is sensitive in the back and dies instantly but the front is avoidable. If you did, then you would know that a fireball has to go through the center of the ship to kill it, which is why this guy can survive from the fireballs that hit the outermost corner and top. You have to do shit like that to beat that game on PRO. Too bad this is on HARD.
