Hard Trance and Hardstyle are cheesy (in a bad way), the tunes are meant to be dark and menacing but end up taking themselves too seriously with crap samples and boring synths.

Reminds me of a really bad & cheap horror film.

Old happy hardcore never pretended to be something it's not and it worked back then, which is why I enjoy it (and used to spin it)

If you want proper hard 4/4 beats then your only real option is some pounding techno/acid tech.

I fucking hate hard trance at free parties.
