cut out the white parts first you get a better death of field but you will need to spray a black silhouette stencil first and from there you can add so many more layers that look right.

@RobTyleruk Say you're going to stencil the letter "O". If you think about it, if you try to cut that out for a stencil, you'll be left with just a big hole, and not an actual ring you can call an O. An island is what you use to prevent this, and there are two ways of doing so:

1: NOT cutting all the way around the hole, just leaving two points of connection to the stencil, at the top and bottom of the hole. Kind of looking like this (()). The two brackets on the inside is the island, cont...

2. You can cut out the entire O, then cut a smaller circle which will fit inside the hole (with an even gap all around it, between the island itself, and the inside of the O). This is so the island can be suspended on the wire, so when you spray it, you don't see any island-to-stencil connection in the sprayed product.

great tutorials! why does it need to be way flat paint? does it look like crap with glossy paint?

Well I only say ultra flat because if you use a type like semi-flat, it won't be as thick, it might be a little thin and it might fade over time. But technically speaking, you can use any paint you want even something else like acrylic, colored pencils, etc. its just a stencil in the end, use whatever you want.
