Aaron Mcgruder is the greatest satirist since Thomas Nast. I am on the opposite spectrum of a lot of his political beliefs, but I hope to God Almighty that this man can save the country from itself.
He is probably one of the few people that see the essential problems and soullessness of our society.
I love his reaction at 3:04. What I love and respect most about McGruder is that he really believes what he's putting out there. He isn't just trying to offend people or make a dirty or rude show like Robot Chicken. He's trying to make a damn point but people want to jump to take offense.
The Boondocks is a masterpiece, truth be told it should be one of the most inspiring shows on TV and the reason I say that is because this show was created to exploit and exaggerate ignorance and the lack of cooperation in the black community. It wasn't made to offend anyone, but to open peoples' eyes and help them see what's really going on in this fucked up world.Aaron McGruder is speaking nothing but truth and the way he portrays the black community in most cases are dead on.
OK, so The Boondocks does push the envelope. But if you watch it, it actually exposes the ignorance in the black community. This is comedy. If it offends you then that means much of what it says describes you.
@KiwiLovin7 He wasn't suggesting that they don't use "nigger" on The Boondocks. He was saying that they don't use that insipid, denialistic euphemism; the "N-word".
I enjoy watching interviews with Aaron. Did you notice how he corrected the newscaster "He said Nigga...not the N word". That should give you a clue with whom you are dealing. Aaron stands behind and in front of his work and does not apologize. I understand the some people might get offended by the language of his shows or the way the point is right in your face. But thats his job as a satirist...right up there with Carlin and Pryor, just to name a few.
The fact he's black doesn't do much for me. What strikes me is how brilliant of a satirist he is. I think the series of The Boondocks is picking up where All In The Family left off and I personally would rank Mr. McGruder up there with the likes of Richard Pryor and George Carlin.
This man is absolutely right, Media is poisoning Black culture, they portray us as a violent, low income, inarticulate, sloppy, savage and unintelligent culture. As if our brains fell to our big asses along with our lowriders. King would be pissed if he was living today, he fought for our freedom yet we took it and turned it into garbage. The majority of Blacks are not free, just slaves to pop culture. Aaron tells it like it is.
@Underestalazer11 John Witherspoon (voice of Robert Freeman) stated in an interview that he spoke with Aaron, and that Aaron has decided to bring the show back to Adult Swim...20 episodes this time too. Only thing, a date was not confirmed.
Who gives a fuck what ABC thinks about anything! Stupid old dinosaur network TV, talking head, corporate, NWO, Rockefeller controled, dead format, bullshit, so-called news! Fuck them!
It's sad how the interviewer is missing the point. McGruder is offering a caustic, brutally honest social commentary, and all she can see is the word "nigga." Damn... I mean, it might have been a stock question, but this is just sad...
I don't really think MLK would have said that word, but that's not the important thing here, is it? McGruder isn't afraid to say what he thinks, and I think his message is worth hearing. If he has to shock folks a bit to get them to think, so be it. Those are the times we live in. People don't have the attention span that they had 40 years ago. There are lots of things on TV that are WAAAYY more offensive, not to mention dumb, which Boondocks is not. (see Jersey Shore, among others).
. If you use the word "nigga" in everyday speech but know it doesn't degrade you because in the end words are just that, then I think you're fine. I mean in the end only you can ever truly define yourself, I mean constantly getting angry when someone who isn't black says "nigger" only shows the person that you allow yourself to be demeaned so easily. And They'll just say it again to piss you off, because they know how much it affects you. The Boondocks is kinda like a Black South park to me.
Only a small percentage of African Americans cherished the old ways of Hard Work... Respecting our Families... Respecting and teaching our children.... Respecting our Communities...Respecting Each Other.... Respectin Women and Having a MORAL COMPASS. I think Dr. King would probably say something like this in real life. It's a satire or social commentary on how far down we've gone in 40 some odd years. It's no-ones fault but our own. Can't blame McGruder for pointing that out.
It is so obvious that this sellout Negro traitor modern day slave catcher is being funded by the enemies of Black people. Ask yourselves this question: Would Asian Americans have a TV cartoon show calling themselves Gooks? Would Hispanic Americans have A TV show calling themselves Spics? Would Caucasasian Americans have a show calling themselves Honkies? This man was hired to marginalize our leaders, to denigrate and debase us as a people. Any other ethnic group would have lynched him?
@fecoupefe I disagree. It's satire. The Boondocks started out as a comic strip and still runs in newspapers to this very day. I think it needs to be aired because it's a cautionary series. It shows the world how low we have sunk in our morals and mores our attitudes towards ourselves and others. Let's face it .. our problems as a group can no longer be blamed on others. We have to be responsible parents, citizens and people. Not McGruders fault that he's highlighting our shortcomings.
So we have to show the world how dysfunctional we have progressed as a people by running comic strips and cartoon shows that perpetuate self-hate?. Just exactly what is the message that we are sending here? I don't quite understand your logic.
@fecoupefe Well we do it to ourselves everyday. Just watch your local news. It shows how a general lack of respect we show ourselves and communities. McGruder is right to be critical of our culture... It went from being proud to being downright laughable. In 40 years we've lost so much. If anything the "Uncle Ruckus" character offends you, I say you are wrong... a fictional character but there is a lot of truth in what he believes. I whence everytime I hear or see ghetto people. ....
@fecoupefe You are are hilarious. Its too bad this series is in its final season. If it were to continue I would be able to see more lulzy rants from over-sensitive black people such as yourself.
If you find me hilarious and overly sensitive because I despise the usage of the word "Nigga" then go ahead! have your laugh! because I am not a "Nigga". If you're not offended by the word or maybe you're white and it's not your problem, then that's ok too!.This cynical animated show helps to perpetuate the abject humiliation of Black people among other things. Do you find it hilarious too that Rosa Parks and Dr King have been deliberately attacked and defamed by this show?
All of The Boondocks episodes go over a lot of people's heads. They're too focused on miniscule semantics like the word "nigga" rather than the true messages embedded. And go figure, South Park and Family guy are highly offensive. At least with The Boondocks, there are genuine political and social messages. Thumbs up to Aaron McGruder!
@mikeisbomb1 right, SOME. Most of it is just off the wall riff raff. Don't get me wrong I like South Park, I just think the media is too critical of Aaron McGruder. It's over their heads.
@kenaikian907 I think it'd be hard to say who did more. They did alot of different things. My white grandfather marched with Dr. King and wrote for the Atlanta Constitution articles in support of the movement, none of which would have been possible without Dr. King's message of the brotherhoodand sisterhood of all people. Because really, when you get down to the underlying causes and condidtions of what folks do and say, we find that we are really all the same flawed, selfish meat bags.
Why the hell are they making such a big deal about MLK saying nigga? It's not like he just went off saying nigga for no reason. He said it to make a point and a great point soooo.... what's the problem? o.O
@N1N4 I soooo agree with you! I'm an African-American and I know excately what he's talking about. He was saying "IF you are a nigga you WOULD do this or that" Not saying all black people are niggas. For example, he said "Niggas don't do nothing until it almost too late" or something like that. I knew people who were like that. So you are right. They focused on him saying nigga instead of realizing he was giving a definition of a nigga in his speech. Peace!
Anyone remember Jeremiah Wright? That whole incident was proof that in America your supposed to blithely compliment African-Americans but not actually know anything about their views or even really care about them. This interviewer is also a good example of that. If the media is ignorant then we're going to see it manifest itself in what people think.
i know what arron is getting at i know bc i been reading his comics since i was 9 so i know how hard it is to hear the truth when others dont wanna hear but if that person not gunna tell who will its a wake up call for everyone in american not just blacks his show he made may go a lil over the top when it comes to dark tone for show but sometimes people need to hear the truth its like huey said the world is a cold and curl place
the media's tryna' 'clean' boondocks, cause its NOT 'profitable' for children, if i think about its boondocks shows MORE truth than news itself :P Eggroll Peace~!
I am enamoured with Aaron M. Such an intelligent (and hot) man. I don't always agree with every point made on the Boondocks but I have to commend him for trying to stimulate discourse. He's clearly someone who is engaged and not ashamed to employ his brain cells which is more than can be said for many. I really like the way he holds his ground in this interview. He doesn't cower yet keeps his sense of humour throughout. And the MLK episode is 1 of the funniest from series 1.
Shame on this woman for trying to turn an inspiration black man against his own community. The only thing she is doing is instigating. I have seen tons of shows openly bashing George Washington in sketch, theater, and satire. Depicting the forefathers of America not fitting in with our modern society, or just bashing other white people for being the way they are. The only reason that this is an issue at all is race. Freedom of speech is only for white people I guess?Stop televising this fear!
This guy is the man why must they always start some contraversial bullshyt on good shows, the Boondocks isn't an ignorant show you learn things on here.Look at family guy and south park they go in on celebrities and so on.The Boondocks does the same but at a different level.
@Trixx488 it goes in on Racism and how stupid the shit is...Even more importantly how fucking ignorant and stupid people are and how we need to stop it.
@Trixx488 i think all three cartoons mentioned share the same level of controversy but The Boondocks is different because its based on a black person's perspective
@Trixx488 That's a good point. Sout Park is the same way, and to me is much raunchier than the Boondocks. Family Guy takes offensive subjects to their limits for the sheer sake of it, and then takes it further and further, and then yet further, and it's on prime time network television. So why all the animosity at McGruder? His work is meant to shock, sure, and I don't agree with all of what I perceive to be his viewpoints on his (in my opinion) great cartoon series, but it's interesting
@Trixx488 (continued) that he is the target of so much animosity. I can't help but think it's largely because the man is just smart enough to make people squirm. I also can't rule out that he catches some heat because of racism and because of the subjects he satirizes. That's just from my perspective as a middle class white dude from the Deep South. I will continue to be a fan, and if Aaron McGruder can get me to notice any racist or presumptuous thinking of my own, then good on him.
Anyone else think that Aaron's trying to make a point in this whole episode he was so called "pushing the envelope" here? Sort of like to open our eyes at what's really happening. Sure it's a cartoon, but that doesn't change the fact that the content on the Boondocks can also be seen in real life. I like him because he's not afraid to express his opinions even on live television while that reporter is trying to put him down. This guy's a great role model
"Mr. Mcgruder, you have Martin Luther King saying the N-word on your show. thats going to be highly offensive to many people. why."
that's not really a question, now is it? did she really want him to answer it? did she want to start the interview with him saying why what he did was wrong?
i'm a hard-hitting reporter! i ask leading questions!
aaron maneuvered out off that bullshit brilliantly, though.
for a lady who says that "he" is coming down hard on the black community she seems to be coming down hard on him when she doesn't seem to care about this black mans logic. cause honestly as black man we haven't progressed as much we could or should have. just cause there are some successful black people we are still fighting in ways to gain from what Dr. Martin Luther King already fought to progress
shes trying so hard to make him look like an ignorrant asshole. u can totally tell she was shocked when she saw he was actually smart and quickely answered all of her questions.
[Piggybacking off the exchange btw Ghost and Pina] - What the hell is the Middle East? Why isn't there a middle North, middle South or middle West?
The area currently called the 'Middle East' is STILL Africa. It was ORIGINALLY occupied by the Black/Nubun/Nubuwn races who ARE the ORIGINAL existence of humanoids on this planet.
IF such a person with a Greek name "Jah-Zeus" actually existed, his DNA strands would NOT have been Caucasoid.
Obama, like Bush, is a plant/pawn. A face to push us closer to the point mentioned in the Bible and other texts- to destabilize the world economy. This goes back to the Roman Era (gov't) and rebuilding it. International Bankers are at root as well as U.N. (military strength) to return to unified currency and economics. U.S. did fine without a Federal Reserve; but, like Bush, Obama is "maintaining the course". Look past the U.S. as our course is unavoidable. "THEY" had control since the 30's
i hope he (mcgruder) makes some obscure reference to ricki ross and that whole thing about the iran contras and the cocaine, in the third season.....i dont know im just on a weird one
I am looking forward to season 3 of the boondocks because I am curious to see if any of Mr. Mcgruders views of Oprah have changed ever since she has started her own cult.
Im also exited to see his (hopefully) negative interpretation of Obama and his die hard followers. I hope he has the balls call Obama out for what he really is. Even though his guest stars on the show wont like it.
I hope that the new cult leader Oprah and the evil Obama get a boondocks show dedicated to them
dunno, i'm afraid his work ll be changed.. If seen some of his skits on black jesus.. Real 180°flip from boondocks.. Really i find black jesus real blaxploitation-style
ok oprah i cant stand her anyway and most of her so called fowllers are white anyway and thats what most of white america doesnt like. now as for preseident obama what did he do that was evil?. cause all i see right now is a man trying to fix what some dumb ass left for him to fix. and the man has only been in office for a little over one fucking year. u cant fix one whole sorry ass country in the sorry ass state it is in in one year. if you cant fix your own shit shut the fuck up.
He isn't fixing anything, he's bringing us further and further into debt. Yes, everybody knows Bush was a bad president. But Obama is worse. Its only been one year, and he's already shit and pissed on 3 trillion dollars of taxpayer money, all wasted. Obama promised unemployment wouldn't go over 8%, it is now 10%. We are all in danger because he continues to neglect the war on terror, and does not learn from his mistakes.
But dude. What about Obama is so evil. Remember our last president? I think he has Obama beat. Obama is responsible for fixing up all the things bush effed up(which was everything). Can't you give the guy a break?
I'll admit evil was a bad word to use. I think Obama is just completely out of touch with reality. Obama inherited a 1 trillion dollar debt he he wants to raise it to 3 trillion dollars. Is that your idea of fixing up Bush's mistakes? Wake up and watch the news once in a while. I bet you can't name even one of Obama's backwards ass policies. Obama's messing up worse than Bush, and its only his first year.
You guys are arguing over I misspelled word!! You realize that don't you!! how stupid that is and how far you're trying to insult the other. *shaking my head*
McGruder made many good points here. I think he was right on about MLK having a hard time fitting into society today, post-9/11 and in the computer age.
I don't quite understand what was so controversial abouT MLK saying that we should turn the other cheek? why was that clip shown to portray the show's controversy?
this episode came out under the bush administration. Anti-war sentiment aws seen as treason, Remember that Mom who's son died? Bill O'rielly tore her ass up!

Why the hell are they making such a big deal about MLK saying nigga? It's not like he just went off saying nigga for no reason. He said it to make a point and a great point soooo.... what's the problem? o.O
N1N4 1 year ago 2
@N1N4 I soooo agree with you! I'm an African-American and I know excately what he's talking about. He was saying "IF you are a nigga you WOULD do this or that" Not saying all black people are niggas. For example, he said "Niggas don't do nothing until it almost too late" or something like that. I knew people who were like that. So you are right. They focused on him saying nigga instead of realizing he was giving a definition of a nigga in his speech. Peace!
Pdorcely 1 year ago 3
@Pdorcely Exactly! If you and I can understand that, why can't they? >.<
N1N4 1 year ago
@N1N4 Because there were many things he was saying as far as defining what a nigga is and they may have fallen into that category. The truth hurts!

Anyone remember Jeremiah Wright? That whole incident was proof that in America your supposed to blithely compliment African-Americans but not actually know anything about their views or even really care about them. This interviewer is also a good example of that. If the media is ignorant then we're going to see it manifest itself in what people think.
Boondocks is the best cartoon on T.V. right now.

Trixx488 1 year ago 65
@Trixx488 it goes in on Racism and how stupid the shit is...Even more importantly how fucking ignorant and stupid people are and how we need to stop it.
rockdiga 1 year ago
@Trixx488 i think all three cartoons mentioned share the same level of controversy but The Boondocks is different because its based on a black person's perspective
kidpolofiend 1 year ago
@Trixx488 That's a good point. Sout Park is the same way, and to me is much raunchier than the Boondocks. Family Guy takes offensive subjects to their limits for the sheer sake of it, and then takes it further and further, and then yet further, and it's on prime time network television. So why all the animosity at McGruder? His work is meant to shock, sure, and I don't agree with all of what I perceive to be his viewpoints on his (in my opinion) great cartoon series, but it's interesting
thndrftjones 1 year ago
@Trixx488 (continued) that he is the target of so much animosity. I can't help but think it's largely because the man is just smart enough to make people squirm. I also can't rule out that he catches some heat because of racism and because of the subjects he satirizes. That's just from my perspective as a middle class white dude from the Deep South. I will continue to be a fan, and if Aaron McGruder can get me to notice any racist or presumptuous thinking of my own, then good on him.
thndrftjones 1 year ago
Anyone else think that Aaron's trying to make a point in this whole episode he was so called "pushing the envelope" here? Sort of like to open our eyes at what's really happening. Sure it's a cartoon, but that doesn't change the fact that the content on the Boondocks can also be seen in real life. I like him because he's not afraid to express his opinions even on live television while that reporter is trying to put him down. This guy's a great role model
Ken64livindalife 1 year ago 3
@Ken64livindalife Exactly. But most people dont see through the messages and just notice the humor. Aaron Mcgruder is the truth though
HipHopHead33 1 year ago
is she his interviewer, or his 3rd grade teacher?
"Mr. Mcgruder, you have Martin Luther King saying the N-word on your show. thats going to be highly offensive to many people. why."
that's not really a question, now is it? did she really want him to answer it? did she want to start the interview with him saying why what he did was wrong?
i'm a hard-hitting reporter! i ask leading questions!
aaron maneuvered out off that bullshit brilliantly, though.
kswindl 1 year ago 9
for a lady who says that "he" is coming down hard on the black community she seems to be coming down hard on him when she doesn't seem to care about this black mans logic. cause honestly as black man we haven't progressed as much we could or should have. just cause there are some successful black people we are still fighting in ways to gain from what Dr. Martin Luther King already fought to progress

Joramboo 2 years ago
Yeah I agree.
I think the black Jesus and
911 being a conspiracy are some of the things he went to far with
PINApwns 2 years ago
why is saying true things going to far?
I accept jesus might've been middle eastern and not black, but he definitely wasn't white.
And the U.S. government funded trained and supported Bin Laden and the taliban thats a historical fact.
GhostInTheShell29 2 years ago
I never said he was white.
Saying Jesus was white is taking things too far, just like how saying he is black is taking it a little too far.
He crosses the line when he states that Jesus WAS black as a fact. when in fact nobody knows.
Im glad we could agree he is more likely middle eastern.
PINApwns 2 years ago
ok oprah i cant stand her anyway and most of her so called fowllers are white anyway and thats what most of white america doesnt like. now as for preseident obama what did he do that was evil?. cause all i see right now is a man trying to fix what some dumb ass left for him to fix. and the man has only been in office for a little over one fucking year. u cant fix one whole sorry ass country in the sorry ass state it is in in one year. if you cant fix your own shit shut the fuck up.
cynaminqueen 2 years ago
He isn't fixing anything, he's bringing us further and further into debt. Yes, everybody knows Bush was a bad president. But Obama is worse. Its only been one year, and he's already shit and pissed on 3 trillion dollars of taxpayer money, all wasted. Obama promised unemployment wouldn't go over 8%, it is now 10%. We are all in danger because he continues to neglect the war on terror, and does not learn from his mistakes.
PINApwns 2 years ago
i asked for an example of evil. did you give me an example of evil cause i didnt read that yet.
cynaminqueen 2 years ago
But dude. What about Obama is so evil. Remember our last president? I think he has Obama beat. Obama is responsible for fixing up all the things bush effed up(which was everything). Can't you give the guy a break?
Diachi26 2 years ago
I'll admit evil was a bad word to use. I think Obama is just completely out of touch with reality. Obama inherited a 1 trillion dollar debt he he wants to raise it to 3 trillion dollars. Is that your idea of fixing up Bush's mistakes? Wake up and watch the news once in a while. I bet you can't name even one of Obama's backwards ass policies. Obama's messing up worse than Bush, and its only his first year.
PINApwns 2 years ago
