saw Sammy much later when he had finished his show he got a police escort on to the Don Lane show, where he sang Begin the Beguine, one special night of television, never had heard this version. Won't get into the Sinatra thing that might be going here, except to say his version is up tere too. The second version is closer to the version he did on the Lane show. will always remember it, might find it on youTUBE one day...if you want to listen to a very ordinary try the new Paul mcCARTNEY one..
Just like to point out at 4:00 the little guy is hung like a circus mule. Also that SDJ is to Prince as the Empire State Building is to a bank building in some small town.
mustangred - dont think you quite got my meaning - it was Sinatra that opened doors for his talent to be displayed - days of Civil rights remember - he gave him opportunities because he knew how immense his talent was.
I didn't know that was Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh! I thought they were 2 starsstruck audience members. Sammy Davis Jr. was an incredible dancer, singer, actor. The triple threat!!
@lebarosky Yes, I would feel privileged to know I was going home with Janet Lee too. Great version. Sammy rules. Love the eye patch over the glass eye.
I saw him at a theater int he round show in the San Fernando Valley in the late 60's. I was maybe 10. What a talent. Today, many years alter I regret that I only saw him sing live once.
Just keep coming back time and again to this rendition - absolutely superb - this man was so underrated, I think Sinatra was the only one who truly recognised his talent.
@MsBedwell Er, what? He was one of the most popular and highest paid entertainers in the world, with a career stretching literally decades in everything from Broadway to recordings to TV to movies. I'm pretty sure he was recognized as a great talent by a whole lot of people. Nice try at commentary. Too bad it failed.
I saw Sammy live in Melbourne in 1969 and never saw the point in seeing any other entertainer from then on. Nobody could match up to that talent.

Look at Tony and Janet! They are in awe. Tony obviously feels privileged to be where he was. Fantastic!

Such a talent and such a voice.... so smooth. Many younger folks are unfamiliar with this man's work. He was sooooo incredible.
