It is incorrect to say that this diesel generates more pollution. The fact is some states do not measure "actual" net pollution properly. This diesel engine burns very clean or as clean as gasoline. You burn 2x times of gasoline for the same diesel Km's and therefore you generates 2x times of pollution or even (depending on engine configuration).
Europeans are not dumb to have diesel engine as a common propulsion for their vehicles. Remember Europe has tough pollution laws.
Is it not correct to say that to make gas it has to be refined more than diesel, there is obviously emissions at the refining process, if you were to compare total emissions, created from car burning gas and adding emissions created to refine the gas and compare it to diesel wouldnt that be more fair?

What? I drive a diesel benz, but that is bull shit! A diesel non catalyst IS cleaner than gasoline non catalyst engine. With a catalyst (aka catalytic converter) a gasoline engine is way more cleaner. Run a diesel in your garage (doors closed) and it is repulsive. A BMW 330i can run without making any noticeable odor.

I have one of these, & it's definitely a 5 speed auto. The later 3.0 V6 diesel model was 7 speed.

Diesels do not emit more pollutants, only the environazis in Kalifornia think they do.
They are naturally cleaner than gas engines, only NOx and PM is slightly higher. That's why they are viewed as "dirty".
