@urgdaddy Thanks! Took some time to get that fourth finger anchored, but it sure does help! I made this video some years ago, thank goodness my playing has improved since then! :)
@3hardrider7 That's for sure! We've got a future Earl Scruggs here! Nice job! Especially on the up the neck parts. That's so far my favorite part of the tune, and the prettiest part as well.
help me out here. this banjo got a resanator or open back. i wanna get a banjo. not to sure what to get but wanna play old tunes like your playin here. a reply would be great thanks
This is a resonator banjo, albeit a cheap one. If you want to play the three-finger "Scruggs" style (bluegrass) banjo like this, you probably want a resonator. Open back banjos are used primarily in the old-time "clawhammer" style. There are plenty of vids on YouTube of both styles. Once you determine which style you want to play, that will point you in the right direction in instrument choice.
how did you get your goodtime sounding so bright? i traded my old banjo in for a goodtime 2 the other day and i can't get it to sound bright enough, i've tightened the head right up but it doesn't seem to have done an awful lot, i just can't get away from this plunky tone!
Thanks for the comment. I did fiddle with the banjo (i.e.head tuning)quite a bit... I tuned it to G#, put a new flange on, new tuners, and medium gauge strings. I found that setup to have the best tone.
I love Banjo♥ its such a happy instrument xD I love it :)

@thelawless999 This is a Deering Goodtime 2. It was my very first banjo, and I have since sold it (I play a Huber Lancaster now.)
sav1028 1 year ago
@sav1028 I enjoy you with the Huber.

Yeah...the mark of a pro...minimal movement of the 3-picker fingers and all while anchoring the fourth on the skin. Great Job.

@iloveoveralls well if i were you i would get a resonator, because you can always remove the resonator and put it back on.

Love that Deering Goodtime 2! Yours has a great sound. Did you do any special tuning of the head (like to G#) or just play it as it came? Nice job.

would that happen to be a deering goodtime?
rebelfan21 4 years ago
It is, indeed. It makes for a nice practice banjo, but I wouldn't recommend it as a performance instrument.
sav1028 4 years ago
ahah awesome! BTW I don't think it is so simple as you said...
alnico2pro 4 years ago
Thanks for the comment...The version is actually quite simple, I found it in "Banjo Songs" by Geoff Hoewalt (sp?).
