Are You Giving Your Tithes at Church?

@clouddancer38 You dont have to be a Christian to understand importance of giving and how a church can utilize it for the good. The problem is that God never said give the 10% of money but rather he spoke to farmers and ranchers to do that. Jesus and his disciples never tithe nor did they teach on it cause it was never Gods command and when Jesus mentioned anything on it, it was reffering to agriculture tithes and yes there was money back than gold and silver so dont say there wasnt any.

@DERBENJ You bring out some truth with this statement but being free from the law requires additional clarification. From the proper perspective the old testment which dealt with the sacrificing of animals for sin was replaced by the blood of Yahshua (Jesus) identifying the new testament. Please don't forget that sin is the breaking of the law I John 3:4 meaning we must not confuse the law of sacrifice and the law of obedience (the Most High's commandments). Peace!

Indeed Christ freed us from the law. This does not relate to tithing/giving offerings. Tithing and giving offerings is before the law which came through Moses. These practices were established way before Moses: Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Cain and Able, Noah after the ark, and Abraham and Melchezidek, just to name a few examples. What Malachi directed toward the Israelites should be taken in context, as well as applied to our own lives based on the princliple it teaches.

It would be very interesting & revolucionary. What would all the preachers do when they would have no big churches. They would go on street, right?!! Where people are.

Interesting. When the church began it began on the street and got so big they had to manage it, put deacons in to manage the affairs including finances, widows and distribution.

If people stopped tithing they would have to give properly and Jesus makes it clear that giving (or anythign else) must surpass that of the OT. 10% is such a measly sum anyway. So who's game to put more than they have ever put into the offerring next week? No one I bet. Tithing is easier and cheaper.

Im just trying to get you to see that many things we have been saying in church for all these years have no scriptural basis... Please test all things... Dont just believe something just because your pastor says it... This disobedient spirit you speak of doesn't exists... Search the bible and see for yourself... This is not tithing. Tithing is under the law of Moses. Ga 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

I contend that abraham volonterily paid tithe to king Melchisedec. This event took place in Gen. 4:17-20 A tithing law was not even in effect then. so what are you trying to say??

Abaraham voluntarily paid tithe to the high priest, and abraham voluntarily made a vow with god to pay him tithe. It was not required of abraham to do either. How could the levites pay tithe while they were still in any ones lions????? the tithes were to be paid to the levites and not to anyone else. you have it all backwards.

No i havent read every thing in hebrews, but if you have any scripture, from any where in the bible that you think contradicts my statement you just replyed to; i will be more than happy to enlighten you. Again tithes were grains and animales paid to the livites for the services they performed in the temples. It was a requirement for the other tribes to pay the levites tithes.

You are not accurate in your points on the old testament. Their was a very distinct reason that the levites did not tithe to not point out the reason why is to debase your argument. As for the Tithe not being money, when Abraham gave the tenth to Melchezedec he gave tithes of ALL the spoils he had just taken in from the battle he had. Also the jews were required to give specific tithes for specific situations and their was monetary equivalent for blemished unusable offerings and tithes. So...

I did point out the reason why the levites did not pay tiths; if you will carefully read my argument. they did not do so because they were the recievers of the tiths not the givers. in other words it was a requiremnet of the other tribes to pay tithes to the levites because they perforemd the services in the temple, and was not part of the inheritence.  when abraham paid tithes to melchezedec he did so on his own free will, it was not even a requirement at that time.

You are correct!! We are no longer under the law of Moses but under the grace of The Lord Jesus! A tithe is a good example if you want to give an offering and don't know how much. Jesus nailed the ordinances to the tree, fulfilling all the law. One must leave believing in Christ and go back under the law, to which we are warned not to do, in order to give tithes to keep the commandments. Isn't it funny that Jesus said: You can't put new wine into old wineskins? It will be rejected. As proven.

The definition of tithing is the tenth part of agricultural produce or personal income set apart as an offering. If Abraham was the first tither, why is there no other scripture telling us of how he gave another portion to Melchizedek?
