  • Memento, homo, quod cinis es et in cinerem

    reverteris

  • read the lyrics and you will get the message.

  • Alright this is the result of old english with mediaeval Latin. I studied old english and took three years of Latin. And it is reverentis its just said verry fast. This song speaks out against the arrogance of man kind. We have exploited our planet and claimed it as ours the truth is we no longer take care of it. We use the material from the planet we live on to build mansions and homes, cars and the like and we do not thank the earth from which the material was taken from to build them.

  • @TheMysticDruid It's "reverteris" from "reverto". Reverentis is a completely different word with a different translation and meaning, genitive sg. from "reverens". Back to school with you!

What bugs me is that I hear "quod" instead of "quia" and "cenerem" instead of "cinerem"...but that could just be me...

  • @Ashkhael Alright maybe misheard that then but I crossed checked several other lyric sites and they all have reverentis. And as I said it went by so fast that it was hard to catch clearly. I understand what your saying and I should have done more research on the word. I admit you are right I was wrong im not a Latin scholar. i just took three years of very basic Latin. I have a question though shouldnt reverteris be in plural form? man in this case can mean the whole race of people.

  • @TheMysticDruid Meh, I'm just kidding about go back to school. The fact that you know any Latin already speaks highly of you. It could be that lyrics are wrong on the sites, it wouldn't be the first time. Reverteris is definitely correct form. And, concerning the plural, as it usually is the case in phrases like these, it refers to humanity in general. The meaning of "homo" here is not taken as "man as an individual" but as a specie, "mankind" would be a better translation (no plural, "mankinds

  • @Ashkhael sorry I took ofense I can be kinda defensive at times. And Im hearing quod as well as ceneram too. I took Latin when I was in 8th grade at the college (I was special admin.) Its a great language to know I just wished the had more levels of it at that college instead of three levels =( and due to the teacher and spending cuts the college does not offer it anymore. Whick sucks

  • @Ashkhael ahah so listen to me, I did five years of Latin and I'm gonna study it at university. they sang reverteris. it is a verb form...reventis is a noun form

  • @DafniElissa Reventis...? What? No! Reventis is not a noun form of anything. Re - prefix, ven(io) - stem, tis - active plural 2. person

  • @Ashkhael I know, sorry I meant reverentis! from revereor. I wrote wrong. reventis yes from revenio second plural, present. But I think they sang reverteris, cause they mean future...what is dust will be dust or something like that I guess.

  • @Ashkhael Memento, homo, quod cinis es et in cinerem

    reverteris...think it's the correct

  • @DafniElissa Yes, but that's what I said in the first place... So we agree? :)

  • @Ashkhael exactly!! sorry, I didn't manage to read all of your messages here :) happy new year btw! (sorry for my English, I'm a young Italian)

  • @DafniElissa Your English is good, no worries. Happy New year to you too :)

  • @Ashkhael yesss! happy new year

  • I thought it was Breveteris.

  • is it just me or are they singing reveteris instead of reverentis?

  • @masa44mi no one knows, can't understand much of it.

  • llllllllluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee iiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt
