Nice vid. I am used to taking off Mk3 and Mk4 door panels, but wen I got my 2011, I was lost and had no idea how they put them in. For some reason, everything in this car seems to be more fragile to me than the previous years and I have been afraid to take much apart. Its just me though, I'm sure. I should remember after all these years that they are German so they only understand force, lol.
Thanks a lot for the video, I'm getting ready to install Alpine sps-610's in front and 610c's in the rear or something close in quality. Was there any problem with the radio after the new speakers were installed? I've heard that the factory head unit will sometimes not recognize an aftermarket speaker.
@fordon20s I cannot speak for the Jetta personally, his speakers are run by an amp. But I have installed speakers into cars with stock radios and never had a problem.
are the RF components? where did you mount the xovers? if no amp, can I install inline with the rest of the system until I get an amp? Meaning...run the speaker wire to the cross over and then the cros over feeds the speakers? Thanks for your kind reply....
not to beat this to death, but I would like to keep the factory head (nav/sat/etc.) and add a sound processor in the middle somewhere...do i need a new head unit to do that? Can I tap into the factory piece and still amp the system, by-passing the factory stuff except tuner, sat, nav, volume, etc... just a question
@MotoringM You do not need a new head unit to add amps. You can do it with the factory radio. You will need a converter. The more money you spend on it the better your sound will be. There are really cheap converters that convert speaker wires to RCA's. But they can give you a dirty signal. Or you can step up to something like a Rockford 360 which converts, tunes, and boosts the signal.
@MotoringM No problem! And I'm not an installer, I'm just very mechanically inclined and teach myself how to fix/work on stuff. I have done installs on all my friends cars.
What size speaker for front and back? I think I heard you say 6 3/4 front? What about depth? Also, same info for rear. Thanks for doing this, answers lots of questions, awesome.
@MotoringM The speakers are 6.5's, both front and rear. Im not sure of the depth, but we used Rockford Fosgate Punch speakers and they fit with no problems. They have a top-mount depth of 2". But even if you buy really deep speakers you can just build a spacer out of wood to give you the extra depth. I had to do that on my Ram.
awesome..I just started to take mine off and after the first screw on the bottom, I thought I'd better look this up first! I'm trying to see what size the stock speakers are..I was really hoping there would be a shot of them! So, I can only find speaker sizes that say 4" in the front and 6.5" in the rear..Is that what you found?
I had no idea how I was going to install my sound system in my '12 GLI until i watched this video. True lifesaver lol

@MotoringM They are not components. Look at all the other videos I have on this car and you will see what I did.
And if I under stand you correctly, what you are saying should work.
