  • Nice set up!

  • nice studio im working on mine im almost done if u want to check out my music

  • Question!......I have reason 5 on my computer...and I love having that "feel" of knobs and faders....I was wondering if I were to get a usb Mixer like the one in your video....will I be able to run that throught reason 5??....instead of digital...in other words...I would like to use a acutal mixer instead of my reason 5 virtual mixer...will that work for me???!....I really like your mixer

  • Is it important to have the foam right behind the monitors like you have ? ( anyone, feel free to answer. )

  • Happy New year Joe! Thanks for everything.

  • @DiSoNeNcBoI I wrote a free eBook that would help. Go to my website and click on Newsletter.

  • He went from couple hundreds to couple thoasand lol

  • Hey Joe Keep it coming man been a registered HSC member for 2 years now and its the best "Project Studio" website in the country hands down. (Nice setup by the way) I think young engrs, breath a sigh of relief when you show a, not so complex project studio setup. Hard to believe all that good sound/knowledge/music comes from a log cabin room lol. To all young engrs let me point out its never the equipment its the man behind it. Two thumbs up for Joe

  • in that studio you have 10 to 12 thousands dollar minimum.i know the mixer is about 1500. the guitar, the electric one may 2000 and the list goes on and on,plus tax.Peace

  • That beautiful blond in picture frame is your wife? i need to build my own studio too.

  • whats ur electricity bill ? ! Xd

  • Hey good video! You showed me a lot. I have a question thou, how much memory do you recommend to buy with an external hard drive?

  • I like your set up! As long as it works for you.. it works!! From some comments I see on here I can tell some don't respect preference...also without further review, you seem to have professional prerecording ability. Please stay in touch.

    ~Coincide~

  • Here's a hard question for me, hopefully you might have a suggestion since you have a similar setup to mine. When I started my studio, I recorded everything on my external digital mixer. Now I run a few DAW's and they pretty much take care of all parts of production. What advantage would you say throwing the external mixer into the production again would give and how. Pre-mix, mastering? What do you think?

  • @prruger Mixers aren't really that necessary. If you're having to ask whether you need one, you probably don't need one.

  • @HomeStudioCorner Great. I appreciate the response. I invested quite a chunk of time to finally decide whether or not to use digital optical lines vs 1/4" cables for sound input. After going back and forth to hear the difference it turned out to be very slight but there none the less. Last thing I need is to start another project on external mixer vs DAW SSL differences. (Mine is fairly old school anyway, Korg D16)

  • @prruger The mixer is definitely not necessary. However, depending on the latency of your interface you could use it for monitor mixes for your performers. Also, if you find yourself multi-miking sources (guitar cabs for example) you could record the individual channels and a bus with the combination. Sometimes using the bused track can help reduce options and simplify mixing. Provided you have spent the time to get a good balance at record time.

  • I can't foam my room like that so I put a box over my head with foam inside and close the lid under my chin while I record into the mic.

    Is that good?

  • @ArtificialInfinity Hi...I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not, but I would imagine a box on your head wouldn't work very well. I've heard of people putting a box around the MIC to help with reflections. Sometimes that can work.

  • @ArtificialInfinity If you have cash to spare try the sm57 (a great dynamic mic for people with no room treatment in my opinion...I use to have the same problem and tried this mic and I was shocked how flexible this mic can be.

The only poison to doing this is that dynamic mics aren't the best to pick up high frequency like instruments such as acoustic guitars and it needs a lot of gain, but can get the job done.

Check out Ari Hest Green Room Sessions if you need convincing (hope this helps).

  • yo please check out my home studio, its not as great as yours but i plan on upgrading soon thanks (:

  • Man Joe Kudos to you my man! Had no idea that you were getting the type mixes that you get with your very humble setup. in no way are you bragging. You simply know what your doing and it's a real blessing to have you share your knowledge.

  • so much money spent on recording studio < still not famous. if only the music were that easy to get into.

  • my friend, there is a difference between couple hundreds and couple thousands $

  • This is very much appreciated. My home studio is so out dated I am looking for Ideas to rebuild. Thanks for showing some cool Ideas. I would love to hear what you produce in that studio.

  • a couple of hundred, couple of thousand dollars, anyone can afford to it ?? i don't think so, cause there i see easily more than 4000 thousand dollars in computers, guitars, amps, monitors...

  • @RSproductions11 who gives a fuck! ya cheap skate. if you cant shell out the bucks, then get the fuck outta the game. its not his fault you cant afford it. you act like, you were going to put a studio together for $50 bucks and he came along and wrecked your dreams. shut up and go make my cheeseburger.

  • @HOGYOLO hahaha what a fucker, you know ? i spent more than 7000 dollars in my studio and i still spending more and more, and why ? cause i've got the money you fuckin asshole, and i put this comment cause i know that studios aren't cheap at all, you can't afford to any of this with a thousand dollars, so go fuck yourself cause it was just a comment, go make your fuckin cheeseburger yourself

  • @RSproductions11 nobody said you can get all this eqiptment with a thousand dollars, the guy in the vid said that "it's something pretty much anyone could get into with a couple of thousand dollars", meaning you need that kind of money to START out with and obviously you can upgrade/improve your studio bit by bit afterwards, I'd say that's a pretty accurate way to look at it, also remember there have been plenty of bedroom producers with LESS than 1K worth of gear who have made hit records...

  • couple hundred... thousand... dollars :) so that means 100,000 plus right?

  • @Christb4me4ever no dipshit

  • those mini monitors are the Roland micro cubes! badass on the cheap!

  • @arthead123 They're pretty awesome for what they are. Currently my living room speaker system. :)

  • @HomeStudioCorner Let's just round it up to 1 million. :)

  • wait,

so u have one nail hole and a small rack?

    NICE! XD!

    great video.

  • nice studio man. man i dont know how people can dislike your video, fuckin losers.

  • oh it is a trakmaster pro I LOVE that pre amp i have it upgraded then didnt like what i upgraded to so i went back to it ....done nothing but good things for me

  • focusrite trakmaster pro is that?

  • joe- after checking out some home studio setup vids, yours is one of the better presentations. good job!

  • You sound like Chris Adler. JUST LIKE HIM

  • you have a small rack hahaha

  • I like the bass trap idea! Very nice, inexpensive solution.

  • You have a sharp little set-up there! Not to mention that you have a nice minimalist work environment to relax and be creative inside of. You have at your disposal a Home Studio that thousands of us including that of myself would absolutely die to have the honor of using as well as call our very own. Thank you for sharing with us and keep producing!

  • I love the setup! You're definitely a blessed man.

  • ohhm im sr can please let me know what kind of your mixer ???

  • @viepee That's the 003

  • @HomeStudioCorner the 003 used is like $2000. I'd say the couple thousand dollar budget is already spent!

  • Hey Joe. Where ya goin with that gun in your hand? Just kidding. Nice studio. How did you figure out where and how many of the foam squares to put up? Thanks much.

  • Very cool set up ! Never sell the Taylor 314ce..! I`ve had mine since 2000 and they just get so much better with age both soundwise and lookswise ! The Spruce ages great and almost looks like Cedar now, also the bridgepiece and nut take on a kind of tobacco stained patina ! Truly awesome guitars..!! Keep on keeping on bro` ! Peace Ye`all !

  • and here is it's my wife :P

  • A couple grand wouldn't even get you the laptop and the screen. . .

  • For some reason that studio setup looks more than a couple thousand dollars ;)

  • @TechnoManiak1450 all of that in total is definitely more than a couple thousand dollars, but i assume he meant once you already have a laptop and monitor, and all your instruments (guitar/bass/audio keyboard etc.). all the equipment needed to create the recording really isn't crazy expensive if you're seriously into music recording, especially if you build the studio up over time.

  • well... not expensive.. couple of hundreds or thousands dollar... aight!

I DONT GET IT, thats not gettable for almost everyone!

  • how much did u pay 4 thos head phones?

  • @naq231 The Sennheiser HD 280's are about $80.

  • Why does everyone use apple products to record?

  • a want two say the room must al of it of thate stuff on de wall

  • we can here you breathing xD

  • hey joe..first of all i would like to thank you for sharing all your ideas using protools very helpful and informative...i gotta quick question though im getting a digidesign 003 pretty soon and i already have ptotools 9 installed on my imac do i still have to install the driver for the digi 003?

  • @krazyeknine57 Thanks! I'm not sure. It'll say in the documentation when you buy your 003.

  • @krazyeknine57 you can run any interface with protools 9 it don't matter what interface you use but digidesign are the best interface for recording and now that you have protools 9 ? you should be fine

  • @krazyeknine57 yes i have the 003 rack and i had to install the driver also on my imac

  • hey does the digidesign digi 003 also act as a audio interface?

  • @drummingtrumpeteer69 Yep. That's what it is.

  • @HomeStudioCorner hey thanks for the reply! one more question... what are the measurements of the 003? I've been looking everywhere for the dimensions and cant find them.

  • @drummingtrumpeteer69 I don't know, sorry. I don't have it anymore. Go find the manual and it'll have it. It's online somewhere.

  • @HomeStudioCorner alright thanks! did u get rid of it because of malfunctions?

  • @drummingtrumpeteer69 its 2RU and 1 Rack unit = 4.44500 centimeters

  • Ok thanks

  • What is the best mac to get for a studio

  • @TheIqwon Any of 'em. Honestly, they're all super fast. Get whatever you can afford and go for it!

  • Because you're using them to "monitor" your mix?

  • why do people in the music industry call speakers monitors?

  • cool setup man! All I have is an mbox, axiom 25, and a macbook...haha

  • sweet setup.!!!

  • pretty nice

  • So where do you plug everything in, does the 003 have the inputs on it? Sorry if its a stupid question, im trying to upgrade to something like that for my new studio

  • love your studio =)

  • nice rack lawl

  • When I record drums, I need to prevent ambient noise from upstairs from contaminating my records. How do I do this? I cannot permanently transform a room

  • nice bro! whatever works!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=Mj4WFVxZ-xA

  • Spoken like a true musician about a minute of it is you talking about how much you love you're guitar then you show us the picture and its a quick "heres my wife" Lol. This studio is legit by the way

  • I'm looking for a pair of headphones to replace my piece of sh** Skullcandys. One of the pairs I've been looking at are the HD 280's. Would you recommend those for late-night mixing, or any other pair? Also looking at the AKG K240s. Thanks!

P.S. If you ever wanna donate your 003 to an aspiring engineer, I'm your guy :D

  • i want to build a home studio recording what kind a tools do i need?

  • Would you consider selling that pencil mic? I'm in need.

  • Mic by the Window? Must be a quiet neighborhood...

If you're looking for a keyboard workstation you should check out our StudioBLADE. Its powered by Windows 7 and is expandable with ANY Windows compatible plug-in or software. It could even replace your whole studio! Check our channel for videos!

  • @HomeStudioCorner Hey, have you ever used any Samson mics(including the Samson G-Track 3-button mic)or the Neumann mic or AKG Mic or Behringer mic or AKG mic or Shure58 mic or even the Sennheiser mic? Great studio setup, btw! Also, have you used Bose Companion 3(or Companion 5)speakers?

  • Man I really Love your Lifestyle and the way you deal with things. Double thumbs up.

  • i have a couple questions what interface do u use and what program do u have on your macbook

  • I have a question, How did you connect your 003 to your laptop when MacBooks do not have a firewire port?

  • @emmanuelg87 Yes they do.

  • @HomeStudioCorner Is that an older MacBook? 'cause the new ones doesn't have Firewire..

  • @HomeStudioCorner new ones don't

  • Hi, I'm a begginner on this, where did you conect the M-Audio's, to one amplifier, crossover or what? I want to connect my 2 JBLControl Monitor to something very professional to hear music and for edit audio.

    thanks a lot men!!!!

  • @slaving300 They connect directly to the outputs of my interface. They're powered speakers.

  • SHOWOFF!! :)

  • What sound card/interface do you use. Also, what recording software do you run on the MacBook? Thanks & nice vies

  • theres my wife haha that was funny great video dude

  • Hi, I am looking to start my own studio for music recording and video editing any advice?

  • nice video man your well spoken and easy to listen and watch. lovin the setup as well.

  • hey, yeah, everyone just has thousands laying around, under the couch cushions, just last week i shited 5 million, haha, he makes it sound like a hobo could start one! yeah, anybody could do it with a couple hundred, or thousand dollars....

  • hiii everyone check out this we intend to get somewhere with this hope u like it or whatever /watch?v=P4Wgi-YUmIM comment msg

  • My home studio is a guitar, an amp, and a computer...lol.

  • Hope it's not inappropriate of me to say this - not trying to be a jerk, just generally/objectively asserting that, from what's visible in this video, your wife is gorgeous. Just sayin':D

The studio's quite a knockout as well! lol Not entirely unlike the setup I'm hoping to put together ASAP - i.e., as soon as I'm not broke beyond comprehension:( This even gave me a couple new ideas for that potential setup. Thanks for posting!

  • come on....nothing impressive??? r u kidding me?? haha you´ve got a digi 003!! nice!! keep on doing this sort of stuff man..nice studio!!

  • hey men you have nice toys congratulatios, jejej i uold like have the same thing that you...a hug and again congratulations

  • hey whats up? i just have a question ... the hd 280 sennheiser are more for djs or people who works on live stages , because its high impedance ... the ear get really fast tired are im right , how do you feel mixing and mastering with these?

  • @miguell2106 I mix with the HD650s. Since they're open headphones they have a better frequency response, and they don't tire the ears as quickly.

That said, before I got the 650s I used the 280s ALL the time, tracking, mixing, mastering. They're not the BEST for mixing and mastering, but they're still great headphones.

  • with PT9 that 003 is nothing more than a fancy paperweight. Gonna have a hard time getting rid of that useless piece of crap.

  • @t1mTV Why would I want to get rid of a custom Pro Tools interface/control surface that sounds great, works great, and helps me make great-sounding recordings? How does that qualify as a "useless piece of crap"?

I know what you're getting at, and no, people probably won't buy the 003 quite as much now that PT9 is out, but it's still a great piece of equipment and syncs up wonderfully with Pro Tools.

  • @HomeStudioCorner I dunno, I guess if you like terrible I/O boxes you could say the 003 works great. But most normal people don't like terrible I/O boxes so...

  • @t1mTV I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The 003 sounds great. I'm happy with the quality of my recordings, so it's obviously not terrible in my opinion.

  • @HomeStudioCorner i think that guy is crazy the 003 is an awesome piece of equipment i have the cheapie mbox 2 and it does fine so that guy is whack and crazy

  • @HomeStudioCorner

    003 is pretty bad....

  • @t1mTV I've got an 003 rack. I light pipe most my inputs, but it's a far cry from useless. Not only is a good interface it is my monitor station. Multiple monitor outputs, eight line outs, mute button, mono button and volume control. You can even have two different monitor mixes out of the 1 and 2 headphone outs. That's usually enough for most home studios. Maybe not the best, but far cry from useless piece of crap. Don't be a hater dude. Ha!

  • @outofideas97 you're just mad because you own an expensive paperweight.

  • @t1mTV To each his own. What's your setup?

  • @t1mTV Agreed, to each his own. What are you running? You have enough paying clients to afford all those high end a/d d/a converters? BTW, not mad at all. I've actually made enough to pay for my setup. Wouldn't make a lot of sense to have such high end gear and be making beats in my bedroom. Ha! All with love my friend. Hope all your recording sessions go well.

  • Hi m8 ...may i ask how much all thhis machinery cost, including everything from desk to wires..cause i really like to make my home studio and i have certain badget..cheers

  • superb studio¡¡¡ digidesign control surface, and other great stuff..great video

  • I have the same prs SE It's amazing! Wouldn't you agree?

  • mad set up bro

  • Great website, spot on. I went to recording school and it is hard to find someone as thorough as your articles. These days everyone thinks they are a producer/engineer/artist, You truly know whats up. Great reference and well put. Thanks for giving tips to basic musician songwriters sound a little better than average. I'm sick of these home studio buffs that think they can mix and master they're own albums. They may do it but less than pro results. What about the Tascam FW84 for Sonar?

  • Well bro i totally get you i like how you were real with everyone no bs just straight with it and not bragging. Um so after buying the 003 are you kinda pissed protools 9 lets you use any interface you want?? and i totally agree with you i just barely got my first setup recently and i only spent 2 thousand for such a cheep deal i got really nice gear but its not about the gear its about the person pushing the buttons in my opinion.

  • here is... thats my wife... here is, lol

  • @joeymilleralcadeas dying laffin..had 2 rewind lol

  • You said "A couple of 1000's dollars"? Or "100.000's"? :D

  • u know it just cost a couple hundred......couple thounds dollars cause evrybody has that money just layin around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111

  • I LIKE THE SETUP GOOD VIDEO

  • whats your opinion on the Shure SM57 mic?

  • @SmallFish616 Sm 57 is great for micing guitar cabs and sometimes acoustics the use of it is very wide hence why it is the best sold mic.

  • thats real nice.. what are them foam diamonds for:) ?

  • @zacandmusic the "foam diamonds" are bass traps, they keep low bass frequencies from continuously bouncing off the walls, ceiling, floor etc which either 1) causes a mis representation of bass in your mix when you listen to it in that room or 2) when recording anything basically, it causes your recording to be either muddy or dull due to room reverberation and bass reflections gathering up in your recording,

in short, it makes everything sound cleaner and better

  • How do i get that perfect mic vocal sound?

  • @posiedonpowertrio There's no secret. Good equipment. Good vocalist. Lots of practice.

  • @HomeStudioCorner or you could just be a bad vocalist like most people these days and over use autotune but tune doesnt matter as much as tone if a person sings well that determines it more than anything.

  • Nice studio man. I love the EX-66 monitors! What do you think about the low end? I have them too but I used them with a SW10K sub. I think they sound much better combined with a sub because the mid is really amazing on the EX but together with the low they sound a bit "unfair" you're not hearing the true lows. Don't you think you sit to close? try to put them on stands and sit a bit further away with your desk, they sound a lot better then!

  • I give you props dude nice studio

  • Nice set up. I can really see how you appreciate your equipment. Keep up the good vids!

  • this is the only thing that confuses me. what exactly do you use the eq with or for?

  • Nice studio and all that mate, but honestly, you've got all that nice gear but dont even know how to position your monitors, sadly! 'If you sit fairly close' isnt gonna help when your monitors are firing at your back wall, they need to be angled in towards your listening positon and at head height so your head and the speakers form an equilateral triangle, then you get contructive interference from both (which forms the 'sweet spot'!)... The term 'all the gear but no idea' comes to mind :-S

  • @djdiscomikki Actually you're wrong. These monitors are designed to be placed exactly how I have them. The MTM design allows for a very wide, even dispersion.

I'd recommend checking your facts before being so critical.

  • @HomeStudioCorner Fair enough. The rest of the video wouldnt load so from the side I thought they looked notoriously like Barefoots lol. Imo any monitor no matter how wide its signal dispersion is, isn't going to perform too well if its not angled towards your ears. It might be ok for bass, but for high mids and highs (very directional frequencies) Id say it would only help you more and give a more accurate 'sound' if you angled them towards your listening position...

  • @djdiscomikki Normally you'd be right, but these weren't designed that way.

  • @djdiscomikki Also, feel free to look up the manual for these monitors online. They're M-Audio EX66's.

  • It's so stale and boring. It's like you just bought a bunch of shit and did things by the book.

  • really nice studio, where do you record drum tracks?

  • Comment removed

  • a couple hundred thousand wtf?

  • @pestilenes a couple hundred, a couple thousand

  • Nice set up but why don't you have a bass? Or a real guitar amp?

  • I envy your setup! Sweet stuff man :)

  • nice video...im in the process of making my home studio...i cant wait till i know how to work everything.

  • nice video...

  • Ive got the same CME u-key keyboard lol

  • ...humble my ass. hahaha your equipment rules!

  • love those studio monitors where did you find them?

  • yo am tired of watching nice home studio video, and they never show some work. show off some project

  • ''its nothing super impressive..''

    -_-
