  • I have 2 12 mofos, 1500rms and 2700 peak, what cap should I get?

  • Comment removed

  • alright to clear this up, caps are not batteries........they are a bandaid fix!!....in my system it helps stabilize voltages and reduces drop on punchy songs....songs that have a continuous bass note iE: tones used for db will see next to no difference with a capacitor because the cap will empty in less then a second..... db competitors prefer not to use them because when empty they suck juice off the battery to try constantly fill back up.

  • @scootbmx01 Bandaid fix...We like it!

  • @SonicElectronixTV, cheers :) i believe for a daily they are ok i just dont use them for spl

  • @SubZeroSkyLine you really don't know how to talk normal do you

@kyle3420 "trust you" on that ? well then "trust" me on the fact that when applied into the system of my friends car (a car that can be seen on the Polk audio website) it did exactly the job it needed to do . yes of course i know that a cap isn't a requirement to have ( i'm not stupid) but to say that a cap is a marketing scheme (like SubZeroSkyLine says) just isn't true

not all cars even have space for adding batteries

  • I just bought 2 12s. Alpine type R (1800w) and i wonder if i need the capacitor? If i do wht one should i get? And how big does my amp have to b?

  • @asjams save your money and DO NOT BUY ONE THEY DO NOTHING RESEARCH IT FOR YOURSELF.

  • @asjams Regardless of what you may hear about capacitors, a 2 farad capacitor should do the trick.

  • @asjams, ok first off you go by rms aka continuous power...... your subs are about 600 rms each....so you need an amp that will do 1200rms @ 1 ohm (if you got the dual 4 ohm version) or @ 2ohm (if you got dual 2's). as for a capacitor i strongly suggest doing the big 3 upgrade and also get a deep cycle battery and also a voltage gauge :) if you still want a cap general rule is 1farad per 1000 rms so id get a 1.5 or 2 farad for yours :)

  • Capacitors DO NOTHING !!!!!! ITS A MARKETING SCHEME !!! DO YOU EVER WONDER WHY THEY LOOK COOL ? ITS SO YOU BUY IT THEY DONT EVEN STOP LIGHT DIMMING OR VOLTAGE DROP !!! GET THE BIG 3 UPGRADE AND / OR BIGGER BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR

  • @SubZeroSkyLine or you just need to get the right cap for your system have you ever thought of that ? If not then don't spam your crappy thoughts here because caps DO work

If you get the right one for your system caps are designed to accomplish a specific purpose/task.

It will not solve your alternator problem, nor is it a miracle item.

If used properly, it can aid in supplying constant level of power and AC ripple filtering to the amp.

  • @jody024 You are the stupidest little faggot ass troll I have ever seen on youtube. Capacitors do NOTHING. all they do is drain and drain and drain from your electrical system and then at those instantaneous moments they shoot out all their power.....and then they start again drain and drain and drain DO YOUR HOMEWORK FAGGOT.

  • @SubZeroSkyLine what are you a 6 yr old child ? keep urself in control dude a friend of mine used a cap in his system also and it did the job perfectly (in a full polk audio system)

there is no need to cuss at me at all

  • @jody024 nobody cares. fact is capacitors do nothing. all they do is drain power from your electrical system. do you ever wonder why they look so cool ? it's is so YOU BUY THEM. it's called a BATTERY. GET A BATTERY not a capacitor and save your money. and I bet you anything your friend doesnt know much about car audio AT ALL. he probably had somebody else install his system for him LULZ

  • @SubZeroSkyLine hahaha first: you dunno shit about my friend and his car so you cant say you know anything

second: he installed his system himself

next time don't talk about knowing things that you CANT know anything about

  • @jody024 Yo dude, trust us on this. Caps won't do nearly as much for you as say a better battery can. All a cap does is store charge for you system and nothing else. Like, they will help if the voltage on your amps are dipping too low, but making sure your connections are done properly can have the same effect. I'm running around 3000w rms with a single optima yellow top and none of the lights in my car dim when the heavy bass hits. I have 0ga everything and the big 3.

  • @jody024 Caps do not work there are total shit. Be a man and buy a bigger battery or alternator and do the big three.

  • @SubZeroSkyLine Thank you thats exactly what i think

  • @SubZeroSkyLine Let us clear things up here. You are very correct in saying that a bigger battery combined with the big 3 is the best way to upgrade your electrical system in your vehicle. However, Capacitors are not completely usless. If used correctly they can aid your electrical system. You just have to make sure to have a capacitor that has the correct amounts of farads and has a proper ground. They will only SLIGHTLY fix light dimming or voltage drops.

  • those are for pussyes, if youre not a fag, you should know what big 3 upgrade is !

  • this video teaches nothing. there is no explanation for how to charge a capacitor, and there is no alternatives to using capacitors. this video is a fucking money grab. DON'T WASTE YOUr MONEY PEOPLE, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!

  • in my car i have a 10"sub running off an amp with no cap, i want to also put a 4 channel amp in, do i need to cap's or can i just use one?

  • I bought 2 12's 1600w kicker subs with a 850w amp but am planning on buying 720w amp for each sub What cap do you recommend?

  • i learned nothing

  • i just ordered my power acoustik 5 farad cap from sonic electronix and i heard that when grounding it i hook up the ground back to my amp

  • @chiddyxxbang This might cause you to have alternator whine and engine noise. It is recommend to have the ground of your amp connected to a paint and corrosion free surface of your vehicles chasis.

  • Anyone else notice the WS6 tattoo on his right arm?

  • Why cant the ground from the amp go onto the negative part of the cap ?

  • @Dave50Bat You need to make sure the the ground is to the chasis of the vehicle. This will complete the electrical circuit and cause everthing to function correctly.

  • @Dave50Bat, because you will get engine noise, static and interference.....

  • How do i decide what capacitor is good for my subs? 2 12' power acoustik 600 rms each, amps 1300 rms. I figured i was gonna stick with power acoustik cause theyre stuff is good, but how do i know what one would work the best, what do i have too look for?

  • @doubleZeeZ We would recommend getting a capacitor that is at least 2 Farads.

  • @doubleZeeZ dude, don't bother with capacitors. get a better battery. I'm running around 3000 watts rms with a single optima yellow top. just make sure you make clean ground connections and you'll be fine. caps are a waste of money

  • @kyle3420 YES FINALY CAPACITORS DO NOTHING !

  • Hi. I have an EV SUV invention of mine in mind. I want to use capacitors rather than batteries.. is this ok? Would it work? Maybe U would recommend BOTH?... Also, are most capacitors 12V (as I would probably need this kind of voltage)? Why are U safe doing this on the table like this? Is it because no current flows out of the battery until you draw power & turn on UR appliance/tool/motor? This is just a guess, am I right?... Also, would a 1"X4' long metal rod do OK 4 groundN stuff?

  • never mind i fixed it, but is is normal for the capacitor to stay on when the car key is taken off?

  • @loskabrother it will turn off sooner or later...mine stays on 4 a while b4 turning off

  • hey i just installed a capacitor on my car from you guys. i just connected one terminal for the ground from the cap to the chasis and left the ground that i already had to the amp connected. when i turned on my car the voltage meter turned on and everything seems good, but there is just not as much bass as it used to. i know it can deliver much more bass what would you suggest the problem is? thanks

  • thanks

  • so basicly you have the capacitor in parallel with you battery and amps???????????????

  • @glennnnnnnnnnnnnn469 It would be better to say that they are run inline with your amplifer and battery.

  • @SonicElectronixTV im running 2 820w amps, 800w mono block and my headunit off a 65amp hr battery and a decent 12powersupply, i would need a 2f cap parrell (inline) with the battery as all the amps are parrell. is that correct?

  • I have a 2 farad cap.hook to a mono amp to. 1-12inch and a 4channel amp and i want to hook up another amp with 2-10s would i need another capacitor or what please help.

  • @CvillediamondD We would recommend just upgrading your battery in order for your electrical system to handle this much wattage.

  • Hey quick question. Can I ground the amp and the capacitor on the the same spot on the chassis. Both ground wires will essentially be touching but can they be on the same ground point? (I have a chevy blazer and there are bolts that lead to the chassis that I use now for my amp)

  • @ilikeCAitsfun Yes, this is not a problem. Just make sure that your are connecting to a paint and corrosion free surface.

  • wha does a capacitor do

  • @MrDOA313 When you have a system and have a high power surge from bass, like the brief hard hits, the capacitor let's loose some energy to compensate and help save the battery. very quick. then charges back up.

  • It resists the change in voltage. That's all. Electronic devices are just signal manipulators. 1 Farad is 'huge' for a cap, but not really much of a storage device at all, but if your car has its lights dimming and voltage dropping much below 12-13 volts, you really need a bigger alternator or a smaller pulley on it.

Watts/volts=amps. Your ignition, accessories, lights, etc might be 40-70 amps total at times, so a 1500 watt system needs more than that & will rape your battery lol

  • I got a 2000Watt mono block and im addin a 900watt 4ch for my door and rear deck speakers off a distribution block i just added. Im thinkin about puttin in a capacitor to help with the load on the system. So my first question is, should the cap be installed before the distribution block. 2nd, what farad should i look at gettin?

  • @Mustang552 Depends on the setup of your car. You could put it anywhere between the hot side of your load (NOT directly to battery, unless you want to shock yourself - these caps CAN KILL YOU EASY. Besides, you dont want it on anything powered on without your key in the ign or acc position or you're charging the cap all the time, and the losses will dissipate constantly. They have a finite life. ALSO use a 500k or higher resistor between the cap leads to drain the cap safely when powered off.

  • WS6?

  • Ey dude i heard u have to charge tha cap before installing... Is that true or can i just connect it as easy as u showed on tha vid....

  • @marcosbenitez1989 Just connect it, thats how it gets charged. If you try charging it up first, you can shock or kill yourself.

  • HOLY SHIT i spoke to you on the phone yesterday about my Clarion EQ that was defective WHATUPPP!!!!

  • what farad would i need for dual subs running at 800 rms each

  • @slinky211 We would reommend at least a 2 farad capacitor for this set up.

  • what brand would you recommend for a 300 watt rms system?

  • @baseballdude1065 Rockford fosgate makes some of the best capacitors that we carry.

  • @SonicElectronixTV do they make one with a digital meter on it?

  • @baseballdude1065 Yes, one with a digital voltage meter would be the Rockford Fosgate RFC1D.

  • @baseballdude1065 would this be the same process with a batery

  • so i got a cap, wired it up but my lights still go dim just not as easily. around level 18 is when they start barely flashing w/ the cap & before i wired it, the lights would start flashing like crazy at level 15, so it helps but not alot. why do they still flash? im using 8 gauge wiring for power supp. & ground

  • How do you discharge a capacitor

  • @killa4nyah Remove the capacitor from your vehicle and make sure to handle with care. Take a 12V test light or resistor and touch the positive and negative terminals on the capacitor bridging them together. Make sure to wear safety goggles and heavy duty gloves or hold the light/resistor with insulated pliers. The resistor or light will get very hot and could pop. Once the light goes out the capacitor is discharged. When the resistor becomes cool the capacitor is discharged.

  • i have to 500w rms soundstream t6's and im wondering if i should get a capacitor ?? do i need 2 or 1 ?

  • @gingaisgod It would not hurt to get a capacitor. You wont need a very big one. Just 1 capacitor rated at 1 farad.

  • @SonicElectronixTV mean , thanks

  • @gingaisgod No you do not need a capacitor, it is just a waste of money.

  • does the capacitor have to have more watts then the amplifier? because i have 2 memphis 15" just hooked up regular... and i got a capaciter thts 2,000 watts... & i have to change the 4 gage to 0 gage rite? hit me back up if anybody know...

  • @EMata713 A capacitor is not measured in watts. It is measured is Farads . 1 Farad is equal to roughly 500 watts RMS. For example if you have a 2000 watt system, you are going to need at least a 4 farad cap.

  • So how does a capacitor works? Or how does it help to my audio system?. I have a 2002 VW bug with a 51 amp alternator (really small). My audio system is just a 10" single coil pioneer subwoofer with it's amplifier and four amplified speakers. Those hooked up to a yellow cap OPTIMA battery. But still my lights are dimming a little bit at night. Is that an alternator's capacity problem?? Thanks a lot!!!

  • @imfercho You definatly would want to consider purchasing a high preformance alternator. The small alternator you have now is not going to be able to properly charge your Optima battery. A capacitor could help but this does not seem like a very high powered system and it should not require a capacitor.

  • I just installed a capacitor. It's hooked up properly and was properly charged before installing it. But when I turn my car on, the capacitor will sit at 14.1 volts for about 20-30 seconds, then go off. Is it supposed to do this,? It does the same thing when I turn my car off. When I turn my car off, the capacitor counts down from 14.1 volts to 11.98 volts then shuts off. Please help,!!

  • @DerrickT113 This definatly sounds like an issue with the capacitor. We would suggest taking a multimeter and checking the voltage of the remote turn on wire to see if there is any change as well. This may be the issue. Otherwise it could be a defctive capacitor.

  • Video showed me nothing

  • @gridleader1 yeah didnt really help me any either lol

  • What about the big 3? I heard no mention of that. Upgrading ground wires in conjunction with a good battery in most cases eliminates the need for a cap at all. Also a higher output alternator...?

  • @f3l0ny33 Yes, the Big 3 and a high output alternator are always the ultimate way to upgrade the electical system in your vehicle. A capacitor is the easiest and least time consuming way to stop light dimming and such.

  • I wired my ground from the amplifier to the ground on the capacitor, which is grounded to the frame, is this fine? I notice my lights are still dimming pretty bad.

  • @theapothem1 This should be fine. However, it is better to have separate grounding points. The reason your lights are still dimming is because your battery is most likely not equiped to handle the power of an after market amplifier. You might want to consider a battery upgrade.

  • @SonicElectronixTV Well I took the ground from the amplifier and put it on a seperate ground and also I made a secondary ground to the frame on the battery, fixed the dimming problem, not sure which one fixed the dimming but it works great.

  • my car radio keeps going into protection mode you think i need a capacitator? radio only cuts off and on when the bass hits. if it was my amp my radio would still be on

  • This is a horrible how to. Forgot one MAIN step.... Trickle charging the cap ! Lol

To the person bellow me... It's like an extra battery... Your amp draws power from the cap which is charged from your main battery. If your lights or dash dim when bass hits you need a cap.

  • what is a capacitor for, why would i need/want it

  • @SavageLife404 Capacitors essentially store power and discharge it when needed to the amplifier. This helps when your music hits quick musical perks. The power is taken from the capacitor and not the car battery. Constant quick discharge is damaging to a car battery and will shorten the life span of a stock battery. Capacitors help by taking the role of the battery as the source of power when quick perks occur. In my opinion you are better going with an upgraded battery than a capacitor.

  • Is it alright to run 0 gauge wire from your battery into the capacitor and then run 4 gauge wire from the capacitor to your amplifier??? not really sure if it matters or not please help

  • @Gunnedslingers1 I would not recommend doing that, If your system is over 1200W RMS just run 0 gauge all through out the car, if its less than 1000 just run 4 gauge. If you decide to do this nothing bad will happen but it's just not very common to see.

  • @SonicElectronixTV well i have 0 gauge wire from the battery under the hood all the way to the trunk but i just bought a new version of the rockford fosgate T-1500 and the 0 gauge wire will not fit into the power and ground terminals on the amp and that is the only reason i asked about doing that because im gonna pick up a capacitor and thought i could run 4 gauge from the cap. to the amp an not have to replace the 0 guage wire with 4 gauge wire

  • @Gunnedslingers1 If the gauge doesn't fit then you have two options. You can try ring terminals or just go with the 4 gauge. Just make sure you are protecting yourself from any blown fuses or possible blowouts.

  • @SonicElectronixTV or is it legit to just splice the 0 gauge until it fits into the terminals? cause i already cut the wire size down quite a bit and it still wont fit. and will splicing the 0 gauge wire down to the size of 4 gauge wire effect its conductivity at all??

  • @Gunnedslingers1 No. If what your shit needs is 4 gauge, then it'll be fine...

  • Can I hook the negative from the cap to the same bolt/ground I am using for my amp?

  • @PJRehlaender should be able too, still grounding the neg.

  • if i have a 2000w amp what size gauge do i have to use for wires going to capacitor?

  • Is it normal for your subs to lower there volume once the cap voltage drops to about 11? I'm gettin a h/o alternator and new battery but I just want to make sure that this would take care of it. My wiring is fine everything is soldered but when my voltage drops from constant bass so does the volume

  • @MistahRoboto Yes this is common, essentially when your voltage drops the amplifier is then giving out a lower power rating. This means that the woofer are not receiving less power than they where when you had a higher voltage. It is the equivalent to having a14.4v battery to 12v battery. At higher voltage the amp will have higher rating and thus giving more power to the subs. Upgrading your battery and alternator will fix this problem.

  • is some thing wrong with my cap after playing my system for ahwile it starts to cut for a little bit

  • @grafftodatrack I would say double check your wiring and connections, also make sure you don't have significant voltage drop and that the capacitor is still holding a charge. I would suggest killing the capacitor and getting an upgraded battery. This is a much better solution that a capacitor.

  • @SonicElectronixTV do you think that not charging it would be the problem or it dosnt matter

  • @grafftodatrack You should have initially charged your capacitor before using it. If you did not this might be the reason you are having problems with your car audio system.

  • thanks so much, i love sonicelectronix!!

  • I need some help can I install 2 capacitors to 1 amp???if yes how to do it?

  • @o7cheyenne Yes you can wire two capacitors to 1 amp. If you search our Knowledge Base section on our site and type in How to Install Car Audio Capacitors you will see some diagrams that will show you how to install two capacitors to one battery.

  • I have a (positive +) 2 fuse disabution block, + wire coming from bat into block then split into 2 . 1 + wire going into amp the other + into capacitor. And the same with (ground-) 1 wire in, 2 wire out disabution block without fuse link, one - into capacitor other into amp. Is this hooked up right. Its what the direction said. But friend said i got everything hooked up right but the + on the capacitor. He said block to cap then cap to amp. It works and sounds great. Plz help. Thanks

  • @SonicElectronixTV hello :) i need yur help Dx i have 2 12's pioneer ts-w301r both in a ported box..(they are together no seperation from inside them) and i just orderded a nitro bmw-481 amplifier 400x2=800 watts and it has a 25 amp fuse..

and my question is...will this amplifier be great for my subs and will it work in a pyramid power supply's model: ps-21kx and in a ps-9kx all thogether?

any help would be greatly apeciated :) thx :)

  • @magdielperez240 The power supplies should work, the amplifier is not that strong. You can actually just use your car battery as the power source. The amp will not be enoug for the woofers. It will only output 75W RMS x 2 channels @ 4 ohms, the woofers need 150W RMS. I would recommend a stronger amp. I recommend the Pioneer GM-5500T, this amp is perfect for those woofers. You can also go with the Infinity Reference 1300a and wire the subs together to a final impedance of 2 ohms.

  • @SonicElectronixTV thx :D i apreciate it x) and i will go for the pioneer i thibnk is better :) thx for the suggestion and have a great day

  • @magdielperez240 No problem, car audio can be overwhelming. Let us know how your system turns out.

  • @SonicElectronixTV helllooooo (: okk8s here is the thing

i couldnt afford the pioneer gm-5500t but i just bought a pioneer gm-5300t and i put it in my sound system and it sounds real loud and clear xD (except my power supplies....they couldnt handle it... :( but at least they sound great!!.... do u think that this amp is ok for my subs?

  • SonicElectronixTV my cvr12 is a 4 ohm dual voice coil it has 4 terminals on the sub,

  • @tyronebiggumsish Unfortunately you going to under power your subwoofer. The amp is rated at 240W x 2 channels @ 2 ohms. Since you have a Dual 4 ohm subwoofer you can only run the sub to a final impedance of 2 ohms. If you bridge the amp it will only be to 4 ohms and not 2 ohms so this option won't work. You will have to wire the sub in parallel to 2 ohms and run it off one of the channels and then just have an empty channel that is not being used. I recommend an upgrade to your amp.

  • SonicElectronixTV i have a 1200watt 2 channel performance tecknique amp and a 12 inch kicker cvr with 400rms and a 800watt peak right now i have it bridged and i have the sub in a sealed box what is the best way to wire up my sub to get the most bass out of it thanks

  • @tyronebiggumsish What impedance is your subwoofer? If the amplifier is bridged then it will have to be a final 4 ohm impedance but your subwoofer must be a Dual 2 ohm woofer otherwise you can't have a 4 ohm final impedance. If you can tell me the impedance of you woofer I can tell you what wiring options you have.

  • SonicElectronixTV i have a performance technique 1200 watt 2 channel amp and i was wondering if the 2 pack of kicker cvr124 subs would sound good? they would be in both sealed boxes i want to get a setup that my amp could power but i want something loud with alot of bass.

  • @tyronebiggumsish The amp either has to be very strong at 2 ohms to each channel or bridgeable to 1 ohm which most 2 channels are not. Each channel should be at least 300W RMS to run the subs properly. Please keep in mind that your amp is not CEA-Compliant and is more than likely overrating their power handling ratings. This means you will actually get less than was is being stated. The subs will give lots of bass but they need to be powered properly.

  • need help!!! okay i have a boss nx109dc subwoofer and a performance technique 1200Whatt amp and the sub says its 1300rms 2600 peak and my sub makes a clipping noise when i turn my volume up just a little it sounds okay when its barley turned up but too loud and it starts clipping. my buddy has the same sub and it sounds great whaat am i doing wrong?? please help im new at working with systems and i dont have that much money to get it professionally tuned any help would be greatly aprieciated

  • What brand and/or model of capacitor do you recommend ? i need it to have 2 or 4 farads. whats the best one out there?( and thinking about the budget too)! Thanks mate!

  • @xxxkhafanxxx In my honest opinion I would say get an alternate battery and not a capacitor. A battery would add more power and could make your system run better. A capacitor will only regulate the existing power so that you don't drain the main battery. If you still want a capacitor go with the Rock Ford Fosgate RFC2D or the Massive Audio CAP 4.

  • @SonicElectronixTV i have five 2600 farad 2.7 volt capacitors, if i wire them in series so the output is 13.5 volts 2600 farads will this work better on a car amplifier? im not joking this is a serious question, there in a box right beside me. like im literally holding one in my hand. will this be too much power? AND on a related note how come everywere i look the Pioneer Premier TS-W8102SPL's are out of stock?

  • @iminyourbasement What type of capacitors are they? Do you know the ESR for them? In theory this should work but it really does depend on what the capacitors were designed for. You can always call the manufacturer of that particular products and ask their tech support.

  • @SonicElectronixTV they are Maxwell boostcaps, they have an ESR of about 0.7 milliohms. short circut current is rated for 1200 amps is what it says. normal current is 37 amp.

  • Comment removed

  • you can just splice the remote wire in any location. I would just run one remote wire to the location of the amps, then splice it there. Easier than running two wires.

  • Hey one question I just bought a used Power Acoustic capacitor and it only has the 2 terminals on the top but no turn on wire, hooked up and the capacitor display stays on all the time is there a way to wire it so it shuts off?

  • @thirdgenguy17 Not without the turn on wire, the wire serves as as signal to the capacitor that let is know when the amplifier has shut off.

  • I have 2 12 inch Duals and 1 10 inch JL. I only have 1 amp. Is it possible to hook the duals up to their own channel and bridge the JL?

  • @infamouzdubb33 Technically you can but only if you have the correct impedance for each sub and the amplifier is able to produce enough power at each channel to each sub. However this is not recommended, this is actually highly unadvised.

  • @SonicElectronixTV

Okay what about just running 12s in parallel and 10 on its own channel.

  • @infamouzdubb33 Like I said before this is highly not recommended. As long as the wiring is done correctly to match the impedance and the amplifier provides enough power then you could in theory do as you requested. However once again this is not recommended. Let us know how this turns out.

  • @SonicElectronixTV Okay here's a little more info to help you out. The amp is 600watt & 2 ohm stable Legacy. The 10 is JL Audio 4 Ohm 300 Watt. & The 12s are Dual, Im not sure the ohh impedance since they were given to me but they were bought from best buy about 5 years ago in a package deal with a plexiglass enclosure. the newer version of these subs are 1100 watt max and 4 ohm. Im sure the older ones werent too far from that. Thanks for all of your help

  • @infamouzdubb33 If this amp is a monoblock amplifier then please do not wire 3 subs with different impedance levels on to the amp. They will distort and possibly blow. If the amp is 600 watts @ 2 ohms x two channels, you will be under powering the Dual subs. The only way this can be done is if you have a 4 channel amp. Running the Duals of one channel each and bridging the other two for the JL but you wont find an amp that can do that.

  • Hi I'm gonna install a sub with a built in amp that produces 550 rms. Do i still need a capacitor? Thank's.

  • what is an inline fuse for

  • @Jocktech An inline fuse provides over-current protection to your devices. Essentially its a fuse that protects your power wire from catching on fire in the case that the wire gets shorted. Any time you connect a power wire to your positive terminal on your batter you are going to want to use an inline fuse.

  • @SonicElectronixTV oh ok thanks so much. i have a question though. i installed my amp and subs (without the inline fuse just saying) and i went threw 2 batteries. what could be the cause of that?

  • @Jocktech It can be that the subs require too much power and the batteries are just draining out, or it can be that your alternator need an upgrade. If the total amount of RMS is more than 1000, you should really look into upgrading to a better battery not just a replacement of the existing battery but a full on upgrade.

  • @SonicElectronixTV ohh ok thank you thats problably the problem because i have 2 12in subs running on an old amp and the amp puts out low amps so thats could be the problem. i never knew that. thank you.

  • @Jocktech Make sure your amplifier is providing enough power and that your battery can handle the power. Its always good to upgrade your battery when dealing with car audio installations, as well as doing the Big 3 upgrade. This will help your system run more efficiently because you will be providing the correct amount of power. Also make sure you are wiring the subs correctly and running them a proper impedance that is adequate for the amplifier. Basically don't run a 2 ohm load at 4 ohms.

  • @SonicElectronixTV oh good thing you brought it up. what is the ohms thing. and i have no clue what ohms my subs are. could that be why it was killing the battery?

  • @Jocktech No your battery is probably dying because you require more power than it can give. Look at the magnet of the woofer it should tell you what ohms your woofers are. Based on the ohms and the number of woofers you have, this will determine the best final impedance in which to run your subwoofers. For example 2 Single 4 ohm woofers will run to a final impedance of 2 ohms once they are wired in parallel. You should really figure out what impedance your voice coils are to run them correctly

  • @SonicElectronixTV ohh ok. i know for a fact that my amp is under powering my subs what damage can that do? do you recommended getting a better amp?

  • @Jocktech If you have good woofers they can be under powered as long you set the gains correctly and dont turn the gain all the way up. When under powering woofers your settings must be set correctly otherwise you run the risk of blowing your subs. I would say get an amplifier that can provide the correct amount of power to the woofers. I mean why buy woofers and not run them to their optimum potential?

  • @SonicElectronixTV yea i feel you. and what does the gain do? ive seen it but i didnt do anything with it because i wasnt sure.

  • @Jocktech Gain measures the ability of the amplifier to increase the power of the signal from the input to the output. Essentially it regulates the signal from input to output. When installing a sub, you will set up your low-pass and subsonic filters, turn the gain all the way down and then turn the volume from your headunit all the way up. Then slowly start turning your gain up, once you hear distortion stop and back it up a notch and then you have your gain set.

  • @SonicElectronixTV wow ok thanks. i defiantly have to change that. i think i had it all the way up

  • @Jocktech No problem, gain is tricky and many people like to treat it as bass boost which is not always the best thing to do.

  • @Jocktech You should never install an amp without an in-line fuse, this will protect you amplifier and vehicle from any crazy shorts or from too much power going into your amplifier.

  • Hi,

What do you do exactly with the REM wire when you are running two amps? do you like split it from the back of the reciever? because i want to put a switch for my amp sub.

    Thanks alot!

  • @xxxkhafanxxx You shouldn't have too much wire left over. Which wire are you referring to? Power? Speaker? Remote? which one?

  • i checked your website and the BOSS CAP10 is VERY cheap? is it low quality or will it work?

  • @xxxkhafanxxx The BOSS CAP is considered low-end and will perform at that level. It is isn't complete garbage but with Capacitors you get what you pay for. We would recommend upgrading your stock batter. This might cause a little more but in the long run will save you a bundle and will be more reliable than a capacitor. Also a capacitor simply stores energy while an upgraded battery will provide more power.

  • Whats a BIG 3 upgrade?

  • @xxxkhafanxxx The Big 3 is an upgrade of the, alternator positive cable that runs to the positive terminal of the battery, negative battery cable that runs from the battery to the vehicles chassis, and chassis grounding cable that runs to the engine block. Doing this will improve the performance of your electrical system and increase its current handling capabilities.

  • Caps are junk. Your better off doing the big three upgrading battery, and then if you dont want to replace alt to a HO one then add a cap

  • hi there,

i just have 3 questions. 1. i know that for every 500W i need 1 farad so 4 farads for my 2000W systm is need. my question is: is it ok to install a 10 farad capacitor?

    2. If i have 2 amps , a 2000W for subs and a 600W for the normal speakers, can i hook them up to one capacitor?

    3. if i have 2 amps, as said above, can i only use a 0 gauge wire from the car battery to the capacitor, or do i need to wire 2, 0 gauges from the battery to the capacitor?

Thank you so much for your help!

  • @xxxkhafanxxx 1) Yes it is alright to use more farads than you need. You will have an even larger power bank for your speakers to draw off of.

    2) Yes you technically can connect both amplifiers, but we recommend using your capacitor for the subwoofer amplifier only. Your sub amp will draw much more current than your 600w amplifier.

    3) Try it out with 1 run of 0awg first, if you are having electrical problems you will need to run a second 0awg power wire from the battery. Also, Big 3 is a must.

  • What farad cap do you recommend for a 2000W RMS system?

  • @xxxkhafanxxx The general rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 500W RMS, so all you need if a a 4 Farad Capacitor. I would recommend the Massive Audio CAP 4. Its a solid capacitor. My honest opinion would be to upgrade your factory battery, this will take care of the capacitor issue and will provide more power. The capacitor will only store power and discharge it accordingly.
