@ThePieMaster219 there is still ballistic nylon and kevlar in the design im pretty sure, the ceramics just stop high velocity rounds rather than catch bullets like a fabric would
@erland I hav both guns jtlyk I think I know which one has more penatrating power the ak will knock u on ur ass if u get shot by it the p90 is a sub machine gun and the ak-47 is a assaualt rifle the ak is way more accurate also and yes they both do spray their rounds on full auto I hav to admit tht but neither r all tht accurate
The p90 and mp7 r pussy guns compared to the 7.62x39 if this vest protects against the ak y would u need to test the pussy guns? Dragon skin is very good body armor
@Keldon1996 you suck, the 5,7x28mm (the round for the p90 and mp7) is especially designed to penetrate bulletproofvests.... so it would be great if the dragon skin could stop those
If only pinnacle armor heat tested, and fixed the problem before getting a fail in the armies testing. The idea is that in one test it showed the plates giving more separation allowing bullets to slide diagonaly across and between plates making for a wicked penetration. Can anyone elaborate? I'm getting some dragon skin myself just want to know more. Eventualy I intend to build my own armor with a combination of all armor technologies.
@7REDDRACO7 Supposedly, the adhesive Pinnacle used to hold the disks in place failed under high temperature (something like 170 degrees). Pinnacle disagreed, but changed the adhesive to one more heat resistant, and asked for a retest. Army said no. (Big political BS; I won't go into it here. Look up MSNBC's report. Despite the Army's test, I'd rather have Dragon Skin than Interceptor body armor.
Dragon Skin armor is not as good as claimed. It fails in motor oil, in high temp, and weighs 45 pounds in a full config. Shit is way overrpriced too. Dragon skin is more like chicken skin
True, though I think the concept of multiple, overlapping plates is a good one and could provide better protection and certainly better mobility than current hard body armor. The problem with Dragon Skin® was in the materials selected for the vest, specifically the adhesive used to hold the plates in place.
yeah that is why civilian contractors in Iraq, some special operations forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, some SWAT teams, nine Generals in Afghanistan, bodyguards tasked with protecting Generals, and U.S. Secret Service personnel. The CIA has also purchased Dragon Skin for their elite operatives in Iraq, after it passed the agency's own testing
an armored personel vehicle would stack up very poorly against a 50 cal. a TANK would stack up very poorly against a 50 cal. how would this stack up against a 50 cal?
Neither am I. Perhaps maoristereo is thinking of how the A-10 and its minigun can be used as an AT weapon. The problem there is that the GAU-7 fires 20mm rounds and the velocity of the craft is added to the rounds as they are fired giving them the energy to punch through even modern tank armor.
I checked this and I see no penetration at 0:38 in this video. I slowed it down and checked as well with a long pause and checked. I do see indentation but this is from energy disbursement from the impacts. No holes seen at 0:38. Please someone else check this to maybe I'm mistaken. Then again I did put this to full screen on a 30 inch monitor and I see no holes. Plus the little amount of indentation only represents that hit would be a bruise or minor surface trauma.
I looked and this it is just an indentation clear as day. Please set it to full screen and look. Just as a test I checked it out on my laptop 15 inch screen and it still only looks like a small indent no hole seen. So far I checked this on a 30 inch screen and a 15 inch screen. Both look to be the same just an indent from pressure. If you want to see what a hole in cloth looks like compare a real hole the front of the vest to the shirt.
Still understand the current vest used in field can only take one shot not multiple. So getting a bruise from dragon skin is better then being turned into Swiss cheese from the current vest. Stopping the bullet counts and the dispersal of energy is still shown to be better dragon skin so the bruise you receive from a hit in Dragon skin is less then that of the current armor. Independent studies still show this to be true.
The only study that shows anything different is from a biased source with direct financial connections. Lets see the CIA/secret service still uses this vest so lets think they have no finical gain or ties other than wanting to save their own lives. All tests shown by 3rd parties show Dragon skin to be the clear winner. These test were also done with impact clay to show pressure from hits. Dragon skin clear winner of dispersal of energy and able to take multiple hits current armor fails.
REGARDLESS of how much it stops penetration, think about how much blunt trauma is done to the body. In the first part, after the lift up of the vest, I could clearly make out where the rounds had put considerable indentations in the T shirt beneath the vest...now imagine the feeling of that, and the amount of blunt trauma to the chest where those hit. Cardiac arrest could arise from that type of trauma alone.
I believe that to be the reason why we do not vests like these, and instead IBA's.
No...my last sentence...IBA's use a different type of material-solid plating-to slow down the round, and reduce the blunt force. I am glad that people are coming up with these things like Dragon Skin...what I am saying simply is that the different ways of breaking up the blunt trauma is why I believe DoD is not using them as of late.
According to the majority of tests, the DragonSkin armor absorbs impact better and sends off less kinetic energy to the wearer because it spreads the damage out along the interconnected scales.
Hmmmm....inteeresting....I shall admit, I was going off of what I have learned so far about ballistics and whatnot from all my buds in the Army, and cops buddies back home( a few forensic folks)....I am in no way a pro at this...hell...my Sergeant throws me an IBA, and says "Hey, dickhead, wear this, and don't forget your fuckin' plates" I just say Roger That, and execute. Back in Basic Training, our Drill Sergeants tested the IBA plates. I will hand it to the plates that they do stop 7.62 well.
Well, the .50 is no contest - obviously it's going to completely shred any kind of personal body-armor. The NATO 7.62 would be a good round to test though, considering how common that round is.
the .338 would almost definitely penetrate, it has a lot more kinetic energy, plus just the shockwave from a .223( in the right spot) is enough to stop the human heart
ive heard of this. something about the armor taking all the impact. it can withstand a grenade exploding an inch away. lets just hope they have pants and helment like this.
guess they do cuz their fags like that, bet the marines wont they kno better, army claimed 11 out of 48 bullets they fird penetraded the armor, they banned it 2 months before they even cunducted the tests, and to top it of one of there 3 star generals wore it claiming he didnt kno it didnt work,my ass, this is the best armor there is t this day
