madara saw that they where people in the village who were close to the first who was afraid that the uchiha clan would try to take over the village so they began to separate the uchihas from the village and look down on them. so madara tried to get the uchihas to change this but the uchihas wouldn't follow madara because they didn't wanted to cause a war. read chapter 397-400 it shows everything about madara

uhh thats wrong... madara and the first made a treaty with so their clans wouldnt fight. madrar wanted to be hokage but they elected the first over him... so he left the village and the first and second hokages attempted to bring him back. the first knocked the second out and fought madara alone in the end the first won but he ended up dieing because of the battle anyway. so the second hated uchiha clan and started with the discrimination. which lead to itachis story eventually.
