  • 2:30-3:01 OMG You're RIGHT!!!! I started focusing on my left hand with tremolo picking and immediately improved my picking speed! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  • 35k views no dislikes, Guthrie standard

  • 0:30 thank you carol!

  • awesome lesson... sums up what will take me years to achieve into 6 mins.

  • Fantastic tips Guthrie.... Thank you :)

  • "hair band from tesco " lolol

  • 4:00 over and over

  • 1:24 his figers hypnotizes me.

  • Time for me to go work on my legato. bye everybody.

  • 3:22 thats what she said

  • I have got a question do uncovered pickups or hotter pickups help your amp pick up your legato playing better

  • Einstein said 'If you cant explain it simply, you don't understand it' .......

That is so true when you compare instructional guitar videos from Paul Gilbert or Guthrie Govan ... with other instructional guitar videos.

  • no way, it is impossible!!! I made out a bad note at 4:39, he is human!!! Holy shit, I knew he was human, but that is the only off note I have heard in probably 90,000 of his playing over the many, many clips I've watched.

  • amen!!

  • WTF, I can do better!

  • @buymeamic Let's see it.

  • @GuyNamedCarl

    Come to papa then

  • he is like a metronome

  • I've seen Allan Holdsworth do the "hammering on every note even when going down"-thing, but I'm pretty sure his "regular" technique involves either sliding back or just picking the notes instead of doing pulloffs

His legato comes from his picking: the attack is never "harsh" so you can't really tell the difference between a picked note and a hammered note, that's why it sounds so out there (in a good way of course)

Rolling back the treble really helps in achieving this "isomorphic tone"

  • 4:01 nyiauuuu

  • 0:37 enters god mode

  • Hes an incredibly unique guitarist, a true innovator. Hearing him talk about playing is really informative and gives me a lot of ideas. Love his playing.

  • I teach guitar and I have to say this is probably the best video lesson I've ever seen for legato playing, particularly the Holdsworthian way.

  • No matter what. it was carol

  • GUTHRIE IS A ANDROID FROM THE FUTURE SENT TO MAKE US ALL BETTER GUITAR PLAYERS

  • 1:18 is already fucking impossible, wtf

  • this finger is really good for certain things.

  • TESCO.. FTW

  • guthrie rocks! awesome to hear someone talking about the holdsworth vs normal legato.

  • Pause at 0:54 his left hand HOLY FUCK

  • @ 0:36 he just goes "off"...like distracted by playing, then he goes "on"...

    hahahha, awesome!

  • effin strong fingers....

  • i agree, and mr.govan is #1 on my play list.i just get a little fustrated when teachers explain and explain.the the vid ends.the hendrix and bullet and along the tracks on blues backing tracks is my lessons for the year or 2.i wish i had the cash for the tabs.but i love to jyust watch.him.no ofence meant.i truly love guthrie, take me,guthrie take me.+)

    PS: Love Guthrie

  • @MrNebelful

Its gone now, only comes up for the last 10 seconds of the video now.

  • man this is what i hate about some teachers.awesome lagoto babel.it realy took my playing over the top.im glad

i didnt pay for this.yes very helpful .ok im going to slash my wrist

  • @guitaramp68 this dude this dude is amazing.. because I'm human I can't quite play the exercises he have in his book.. but.. the way he speaks about music in general it's very nourishing.. food for though.. he inspired me to try abe laboriel's slap bass playing into my guitar playing.. it's kind of flamenco-esque , rythmic playing.. everytime I do that stuff people in the store go O.o ... hahaha you should really check out his book it's a fun informative reading.

  • This is probably the first video where I heard what I also think. That stuff about right hand being fine but left messing it up... I found out that practicing legato alone with my left hand improves my playing much more than practicing those alternate picking 1 2 3 4 kinds of things...

  • @dante4d man you're so right there. it actually makes your right hand a bit more freedom.

  • Was he still picking/plucking the strings?
