It amazes me that the US Embargo is blamed for all of Cuba's woes. How about a comment or two about the failed Communist system in place there. Cuba is able to trade with all kinds of countries. The US isn't stopping that. The system there doen't allow for open market trade and there's the rub. BTW, Cuba wouldn't have allowed the BBC people to say anything else other than to blame the US for their troubles

Just to add, Iran and North Korea (two of the countries you mention in more info) are also embargoed. We don't have diplomatic relations with them either. Just like Cuba.

We didn't recognize the PRC until the 70s and although we trade with them now it's no reason to recognize, trade with or have relations with the other countries mentioned.

We're under no obligation to trade with anyone and ought not be criticized for choosing who we want to associate with.

Sure they never got there (my wording was a little misleading). If people think Cuba is impoverished simply because of the US embargo they are mistaken. The blame lies with the hysterical, pernicious socialist dictatorship and not capitalism, the US or the tooth fairy. I cannot understand the analogy with China or North Korea. Trade is China is of mutual benefit and do the US trade with North Korea? I dont think so.
