  • Thanks for sharing your green screen set up . I know it's over a year since you posted it but I was looking for just this kind of a test. How is your project going a year down the track? You probably have this by now but Amazon have a CowboyStudio Photography Backdrop Supporting System with 10 Feet Updated Crossbar and Case at a reasonable price.

  • what camera do u use, i have the panasonic tm700. i also bought the photosel softbox, 2x3m green screen and stand from amazon for about £230.

  • @ozmond2600 I have been using a Canon HF200 (Legria) for most of my vids. I have a Canon 7D so I'll probably start using that soon.

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • how did u do this i did mine on a tv and there was no sound :(

  • @dmr778810 How did I do what? Connect to the TV? My camera has an HDMI port so I can connect it to the TV and the TV then just acts as a monitor replacing the camera's own screen. Because it's HDMI you get both sound and picture. I muted the TV to prevent feedback via the camera's microphone.

  • @starfedrogue when i did green screen almost it didnt work u couldnt hear anything

  • @dmr778810 I have literally no idea what you mean. If you're talking about having no audio in the final video then you've messed up your compositing somewhere along the way.

  • AWESOME

  • u connected it to ur tv and it shows the things ur recording? wow

  • Looks great. A little green spillover but I'm sure you can work it out with the software. Plus, I think you'll need better lighting (I'm having my own nightmare with lights, trust me) but so far, so good. Keep it up.

  • Can I use green wallpaper ? for chroma key ?

  • @realjuvelive Yes, that should work fine. As long as it's continuous colour and evenly lit!

  • @starfedrogue I'll try .. :)

  • @realjuvelive yeah but make sure its not too reflective maybe gift wrapping paper but a solid color and also you can but paint like i did and it works better (flat paint though) than the sheet most of the time because der are no wrinkles and what not , thats how i do it anyway

  • where did u get the backdrop stand from and how much ?

  • @Kinkycurlycoil It's a Superlux MS200 microphone boom pole. I won two for £16 from a seller on eBay. Not actually used them for microphones yet but as you can see they have many other uses!

  • what kind of camcorder are you using?

  • @momchilov It's a Canon HF200.

  • @starfedrogue Canon Legria Hf 200 :D

  • how much did your green screen cost

  • @thetimelord99 The one I have is PhotoSEL 2x3m and it cost £25 (USD $40). There is a 3x6m version which costs £40. They also do black and white muslin backgrounds in the same sizes at the same prices.

  • can you paint the wall green?

  • @potatoman313 Unfortunately not. That WOULD be ideal though.

  • @potatoman313 Yes I know yoy can, check out my video "Stuck in wow" I made it with a painted wall in my garage. Its on my channel. :)

  • what programm did u use?

  • This was done in Sony Vegas. It's done a fairly good job all things considered.

  • I also appreciated the advice on the dm100 directional microphone in your other video. Very practical good advice.

  • I will continue watching. I have a green screen in with my Pinnacle Studio 12 and have been dying to try it out. You have inspired me to try. btw, just a curtain/drape rod should do instead of a boom mike stand. Just a wooden rod that the end screws off and simple slide in brackets to hold lit in place on the wall. You can put brackets on each side of your existing drapery rod with the red curtains. When not in use, just pull the rod off and put away.

  • Go for it! Send a link my way when you try it out yourself ^_^

I am going to try and put together some kind of lightweight, portable rail for the muslin... although I also want black and white photo backgrounds so I may just go all in and get a 2x3m free standing support.

  • my daughter sings and we want to do a project for the Sea Shepherds on the Steve Irwin, if it works. We are hoping to figure out how to do movie behind her of the whales while she is singing. Maybe they will watch it. I will let you know if it works out. thanks. tricia.

  • looked pretty good actually :D

  • Woo, camera to TV recursion.

  • Recursion isn't as much fun with LCDs as it was with cathode ray televisions :(

  • you bought this off of ebay, how much did you pay? =]

  • 24 squid. Exactly the same seller, product and price as it would have been on Amazon, but I got more Nectar points ^_^

  • Thanks =]

  • Couldn't you have just painted the wall (or a couple of boards that could be propped up against the wall) green?

  • Wall? No. Boards... yes.

  • One Could use the back wall of Ones Double Garage. And not disturb the decore of Ones Home.

  • A modest proposal. If you plan to use green screen in that room often. Net curtain wire across the room. Just an idea. The test looked v promising, though. The future project sounds interesting. Good luck with it, Mr Kubrick. ;)

  • I like that idea very much :)

  • Cool. Hope it works out.

  • Simple solution to you screen on pole issue is spring clamps. I bought mine for about $2 us each. The have rubber tips to they will not mark the stand. Also I would not be afraid of back lighting the green screen as it will have a rather uniform luminance that may make it easier to key out. It makes the creases in mine disappear. Naturally this is dependent on the light source size. Your lighting seems ok so far, just set up 2 front lights and you have a winner.

  • You should look into getting a double curtain rod and just hang the green screen over the curtains when you want to make a video. It would probably be easier than having to pull all of that equipment every time.

  • Yeah I'm more than likely going to do that for general YT vids. I'll be buying a proper stand rail thing anyway for use with photographic backgrounds, so I'll just decide which method to use based on how good I want the effect to be! :D

  • not really a fail looked quite good for a brief setup

  • That looked pretty good. If vegas gets it done that well, I'd think after effects would do it flawlessly. You probably know these things, but a trick I've used in AE is to use simple key filters to roughly remove all the green and then do more precise job with keylight filter (I think it was called, been a while). That speeds it up a little bit. In this case you'll probably get away with simple key and a choker.

  • nice work, i wants one! tho alas i cant afford vegas.. do u know of any comparable edit programs that are cheaper?

  • I used Vegas Platinum Studio, which is only £53 from Amazon at the moment. Can't really afford Pro!

I don't know of any free software for chroma keying but I am betting there is some out there. I wonder if Blender can do it? The latest versions have the Compositor module.

  • @starfedrogue no shit! £53 squids, i can do that! does platinum studio have like multiple video display? i mean like so u can have one clip playing on top of your main video? man i should just google it, sorry! lol!

  • Hold on... I actually have "Movie Studio 9 Pro Pack" which is £90, I am trying to figure out how that is different to the £53 "Movie Studio Platinum 9". For fuck's sake Sony, sort out your product descriptions. I am pretty sure it's just the additional bundled software that's different (Soundforge Studio, DVD Architect, etc).

IIRC, you can have up to eight channels in the timeline for video, overlays, audio etc.

  • @starfedrogue sweet, thanks for the info. i reckon i'll be upgradin sometime soon.

    orivwaah

  • I remember my first green screen. We tooked some blue or green paper sheets, and it was awesome when we made this effect with Vegas. Pitty we did not have enogh rsources at a time to make something useful. Great stuff anyway.

  • Thanks! I am going to do another test run once I have some soft boxes or shine-through umbrellas, so we'll see what sort of a difference good lighting makes :D

  • Wow, you can get a lot of mileage out of one of those jobs...

  • Yeah, I was really surprised at the results. It's mostly down to the ability of the software's algorithms for selecting colours for removal. You have to compromise between colours removed and edge blurring, but with some gentle tweaking you can make a very acceptable job of it!
