Really nice mod! But with my Les Paul Trad should be too muddy, I think. I got same amp and for me is very good. The only con is that it don't have reverb. Do u have less volume with a g12h30?
@RHCP777J i'd say it would be very good for that. if you want a more brit voiced one check out the very similar spec Marsall Class 5. both seem like very good amps
Well, I use my blackheart with a fulltone ocd V.4 and I get almost exactly "the ocean" sound. As far as the RHCP, you can pretty much get scar tissue type of clean.
If you're on a tight budget, yeah. If you have a few more bucks to spend, the (now out of production) crate V3112T (tonetubby speaker) or palomino V32 combo (basically the v3112T with a generic celestion) is a great choice. USA made, all over ebay typically. VERY good amp.
nice sound, good licks. i think the swapping to a celestion 12 was a real smart move. brought my peavey backstage from death to alive and well with a celestion vintage 30 -- and that piece of crap is solid state.
You can decent metal tones out of this if you crank it up and use a half decent distortion pedal. I managed a great Iommi sound using this amp and a Boss Metal Zone pedal.
@Jamesdjharrod Did you run your Metal Zone on max gain just to get an Iommi tone? I am wondering which Boss pedal I'll need to give it a good deal amount of gain for a great distortion.
no but if you're a metal guitarist, I'd suggest a different amp. If you're really tight on cash, a used peavey XXX or 5150 or one of the new bugeras would work. If not, Diezel.
thnx for the fast replying. Still, I'm wondering what's the exact role the new tubes play....and what could you tell about the tone of the eden analog drive alone? with the amp tweaked to totally clean can it give enough gain for metal? is there any other similar-in-tone-and-gain-amount pedal?
no it's not a metal amp. light classic rock... maybe a little hard rock but I'd say a good classic aerosmith type overdrive is what the amp gives you. Adding the overdrive in front gives it a bit more gain.. up to a more hard rock but not metal. maybe classic 80's metal but nowhere NEAR what most modern metal bands sound like. It just wasn't built for that.
the eden pedal is like a tubescreamer with a smoother high end and sweeter midrange
first i wanted the engl thunder 50 watt but i dont think i will make that very fast so im thinking of a blackheart cab + orange tiny terror i think that will do metallica (you think the cab will match?)
Any cab will work with the TT. the TT needs a good overdrive pedal with it to do metal stuff. Orange has a newer tiny terror with 2 channels. I'd check that out too.
Hey I've been thinking about getting the 15w Blackheart, how do these things do with fuzz and feedback and whatnot? Great demo by the way! Good stuff!
I prefer the crate by a MILE. That crate man.. it's untouchable. Give it a good overdrive pedal and it can do nearly anything (if you haven't seen my videos of it).
I don't consider the V3 a mistake. It does a lot and a lot of guys I know who have owned it all say the same as I do and that is that it helps you discover what tone you REALLY want and you can then use that to hone in on a certain amp with that more specific voicing. The V3 is a jack of all trade but master of none.
I think it's a great little vintage rock and blues amp to use at home but really not very capable when playing with a band unless you use an extension cab rather than the internal speaker or have a PA and mic.
thanks man. I try to let people hear gear before they buy it. as far as the dream theater goes, man that stuff is still over my head. good luck on it though! find the tabs and check for youtube videos of guys playing the song.
Another owesome demo by FRPC , you just a pro talent , i like to watch your gear well cause you show it completly as well ,you make the amp sounds as roaring from a cheap vintage amp ! , specially after the replacment tubes and speaker !
i want to make the solo of the track of another day song at start by dream theater , could you please help me ?
nope. That clip was made with good tubes I put in there and new tubes can only make the amp brighter...not really add more gain. You would need to rely on an overdrive pedal for just about all of your gain.
Thanks and I have no idea. Midrange maybe half, bass maybe more... trebel pulled back a bit as I like the overdrive pedal to dictate the agression with it's tone knob. volume was probably around 10~11 o'clock for bedroom jamming
How much is the total cost of your amp? i'm really addicted to your amp tone and I'm tired of playing on my marshall mg15cdr and my low output thin sounding guitar for years.
I'm sold man i have to buy one now! I've been reading about them and thought what the heck i'll look up on here and see if anyone had a demo vid and i checked this one out! Great playing btw!
nah it needs a mic/pa. 15 watts would be better but my crate V3112T (30 watt 1X12 combo) sits really well in a stage mix without the aid of a mic. Our rythem player's tiny terror + 2X12 can hang for rythem work but it lacks headroom to cut through.
Dang, well in that case, nice playing dude. How long have you been playing? I've only been playin about 4 months and i wanna get to where i can just improv on command like you lol. I know it's gonna take a while though.
haha It's taken me around 15 years but find yourself a good teacher locally and work on modes, scales, etc and ALWAYS do so with a metronome and you'll get so good soo fast.
As far as leaning to play sit down with a recording of you favorite song until you can play it. There nothing like motivation for learning, and it will be stretching your playing and ears( read: BRAIN). Pushing to learn the odd bits really helps your conceptualization so you can learn impro quicker. Impro is really about being able to join small bits together which happens in your head. If your hendrix and SRV chops are good, it won't matter :D No it's got a great classic rock and blues sound. Shouldn't really be a problem but don't expect it to sound like an old fender or marshall.
the peavey would be much louder and give you quite a bit more clean headroom, 2 channels to work with, reverb, etc. It's an apples to oranges comparison but this is great for just a basic rock/blues cranked tube amp sound without the cranked tube amp volume.
I have a VK112 and all I can say is that you need to go to the store and play it, do not order it off the internet. The VK has alot of mixed reviews... I got one that just hates pedals of all kinds and sounds harsh and terrible for the most part. The only time it sounds good is on the clean channel and cranked for blues... it is not built that well either. It will not hold up to all 50 watts being cranked on a weekly basis.
You have a footswitch? this amp have two canal or its a monocanal? i love your playing, and the sound of the amp^^. sorry for my badenglish i am french^^.
thanks for the demos. i'm really looking into getting one of these. the mics clips a little but you can still tell that things got some nice bedroom level tone at a really good price

@GuitarOnAir changing tubes changes more of the feel of the amp than the actual tone. a speaker swap will do much more to change the sound.

really impressive!!! can this do heavy things like Megadeth & metallica?

not really it's more voiced for classic rock and blues. it would need an overdrive pedal with lots of saturation to do metal.
