  • I still have this on VHS , ahh memories.. loved this and 2040 edition

  • Can you say "STREETS OF FIRE"? Ha ha, I know someone else just mentioned that, but that was why I came here! This was the REAL stuff... hard to come by real anime anymore. Long live the original BGC (episodes 7 and 8 are my faves) and long live Sonoda! Sigh, this is making me sad... STREETS OF FIRE is pretty great too. Long time fan.... Diane Lane will melt your soul (and THE BLASTERS are the bar band!)

  • Well the butthurt ANNime Professors are still crying about BGC looking and sounding like an 80's OVA because, well, that's what it is.

All I'm going to say is that you don't have to bring back the 80's and 90's, but maybe if animators, writers and composers put a little more effort and personal attention into what they created, maybe anime would be in a better state than it is now.

Because there is far more criticism of new anime than of the old shows.

  • i duno wtf this anime is about but holy shit any anime with an opening scene like this is epic lol seriously when do you hear singing in animes anymore? damn this is nice and the cartoon singer has some good moves to. even the fight went w/ the music. Pure Epicness. :)

  • the face looks sort of chipmunkish. Characteristic of 80's anime.

  • Man, current anime is about as memorable as a tv dinner. This stuff is med-up of pure amazement.

  • Long live the classic anime!!

  • Un pò una specie di Buckaroo Banzai o come si scrive al femminile. XD

  • Wow! This is my first time seeing this. Pretty impressive artwork before CG times. Lots of details, colors and good shading. Priss's transformable motorcycle is like the ones in Mospeada.

  • I recently watched Streets of Fire and someone told me the beginning of this and the beginning of Streets of Fire are almost identical and they were right hell, even the songs are kinda similar by the way they're both awesome

  • First time I'm seeing this, and I think I can safely say I already like this more than Tokyo 2040!

  • I use to sneak downstairs at late night/early morning when my parents were in bed just to record these animes on my VHS, I had to keep the volume either low or on mute lol :D

  • If more girls dressed like Priss @3:15, my world would be a far better place.

  • @BearBronson Like prostitutes from the 1980's? I disagree.

  • @SoylentH So you disagree on the fact that my personal world would be a better place? Good job.

  • @BearBronson Hah! You're right. that was dumb of me. More accurately, I do not share your taste in women's clothing.

  • A lot of people are used to watching CG assisted animation so they put down older anime like this because of the hand drawn look. The animation in this OAV is actually very good. The level of detail is stunning. Everything was drawn by hand on paper, traced to animation cells, the cells were painted by hand, and all of the backgrounds were drawn and painted by hand.

These days computers offer a lot of shortcuts to animators that weren't available back when this was made.

  • Awesome music!

  • Wow! I remember how much I loved this series! It's still cool!

  • best opening evAr

  • i bet the people who wrote this music got influenced by that movie called streets of fire ..

  • @tilemacro

They did. They said so. This movie is...rather heavily late 80's in flavor.

Not that I mind. Anime seemed to turn out it's best stuff during the late 80's and 90's.

  • I actually love the song now.

  • Priss' stage look is pretty awesome, in comparison with Tokyo 2040's look

  • I heard someone at ANN refer to BGC as overrated. I don't think so. The show is derivitive but it combined different elements to come up with a an entertaining series that made an impact at the time and is still discussed 20 years later.

Sure the music is dated but was written specifically for each episode so it was a perfect fit to story. Much better than a lot of TV anime today where the themes are just advertising for a J Pop band.

  • @wartarot When I watch a 1940's movie I expect it to be B&W and mono so I can't fault it for that or hold it to contemporary standards, so criticizing an 80's OVA for imperfections is easy to do but should be tempered with consideration for how animation was made at the time.

So I wouldn't refer BGC as a classic anime, but overrated? I would like to see any anime today deliver the kick in the ass that Bubblegum Crisis delivered.

  • got no idea bruv

  • did terminator come from this? orrrrrr

  • no and its not the other way around

  • @super7fanboy - yes yes they did & by the way what are you young or something or just refuse to go with the facts?

  • @three0234 zombies

  • always wanted to see these...

  • @SourLimez - do you think this red bike can be put in autocad to see if the transformation can be done? like transformers maybe?

  • I have BGC 2040 and after looking at this clip I can say that this original is way better. I'm gonna get this series!!!!!

  • This anime makes me long for the 80s.

  • Bubblegum Crisis classic cyber punk anime awsome .

  • This movie reminds me. I am not a very good drawer.

  • lonely angel of lonliness

  • Class!!

  • alguine sabe donde lo puedo bajar en sub español???

  • There exist Blu-Ray release of Bubblegum Crisis in Japanese Market.

Which I believe was released in 2009?

    or 2008.

I only the the package, and wonder if

the contents are HD or what aspect ratio

    is used.

or at least the quality of video is better?

    any body know?

  • has someone the song from the repricants ?

  • That is my singing Sweetheart up on stage. labelashavoc (:~>?=

  • nice =^-^=

  • yeah.....

  • my childhood all-time favorite!

  • Pure old school cyberpunk action!

    thanks for uploading it!

  • her band's name is the "Repricants"? awesome....

  • @99rhetbaboons

Could be said of nearly every bit of creative media in the world. Sturgen's Law states that 90% of everything is crap, in here, in America, and in Japan besides.

Personally I liked this series. Amusing blend of traditional cyberpunk, Blade Runner, Terminator, and Japanese superhero themes.

  • There is no such thing as complete originality. If no one took influence from any past works then we all would still be drawing on cave walls. Your comment is invalid.

  • My REMASTSRED BGC dvds from ANIMEIGO look better than this!

  • Its youtube, what did you expect?

  • subtitles?? no dubbed

  • OMG I have this on VHS. Never new exactly what the hell was happening but I loved the animation.

  • nice panties.

  • how old is tthis show

  • I think this anime made back in 1980's

  • 1987

  • i used to have 2040 this looks waaaaaaaay better. ! seriously. wow that shat allover the remake!!!!!

  • what's the difference between bubblegum crisis and bubblegum crisis tokyo 2040?????? please help, i'm new to the anime.

  • I believe that Bubblegum Crisis tokyo 2040 is a re-make of this, the original bubblegum Crisis. The 2040 version is like a normal anime, with 26 episodes, while this is an OVA (original video animation) that only has a few episodes, but each one is longer. Hope i could Help!

  • thanks so much!! it makes more sense now :)

  • You're welcome! I hope you enjoy watching anime! I know I do!

  • just finished this one (haha, that took me awhile for only 8 episodes!) and i really liked it!! do you have other anime suggestions?? if you could message me that would be so awesome!! thanks :)

  • which one is the first series? bubblegum crisis or bubblegum crsis tokya 2040? or if im wrong its actually both right?

  • 2040 came later .

  • Classic! Thanks for uploading!

  • omg, i like this anime style, like akira, 1980's-90's anime style.

    luv it!

  • Same. The visuals are very rich, and it looks like they actually put some work into animating movements, instead of making like a video game sprite. My only gripe is with the 80s hairstyles.

  • heh their hair is like lions ;p

    nice titles listed there thx

  • this is were anime was at it's best, now we got anime that isn't fun to watch. plus the music is better.

  • @panitty 60s anime was pioneering. 70s anime was adventuring. 80s anime was most awesome. 90s anime was awesome still. 2000s anime was declining up to now in 2010. Anime have been tanking with oversimplified animation, cheap art, lame stories, lamer character design, and sometimes with over-usage of 3D content. Even manga has taken a hit, and it's like we're waiting for a hero to rescue us. I mean, for the love of Miyamoto, what's with all the yaoi manga hogging the Borders shelves?!

  • I love this. The golden age of anime.

Classic anime is always the best, not like the generic ones of today.

They don't make anime like this anymore.

  • Another title you might like is The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, which (unlike Bubblegum Crisis, unless I'm mistaken) is available through Amazon.

  • Why don't they make them like this anymore?

  • Social trends changing, mostly, and the art styles with 'em.

  • Woo HOOO! Bubblegum Crisis!!!!

  • where can i download this serie?

  • Oh.. and i remember that i always laugh at the "repricants" and the huge black guy in the front stage

  • Oh god i haven't seen this for almost 15 years!! I used to sing all oh the songs in japanese!! Konni wa hurricane!!!

  • Konya wa hurricane.

  • pRISS rOCKS YEAH

  • One of my fav animes

  • 05:08 "LAVH YUU" LOL!

  • If they didn't have the legal problems this anime would of been more well known in Japan back in the 80s. Now as a result the series never took off the way it was supposed to and the 2040 one didn't do that well in Japan so it still remains not well know in the country it was made. Heck, non-Japanese know more about this great series then the Japanese do because we recieved the VHS and DVD releases to this some time ago.

  • Its got some nice nods to Blade Runner i notice. Very cool.

  • Bladerunner, Street of Fire (I think that's the name), AND Terminator..

  • I think it samples some Blade Runner music

  • where do i find the song for the awesome knight sabers vs voomer section it's awesome in a way only the eighties was

  • This is the series that got me hooked on anime and Priss is still my all time favorite character. :)

Also I've heard many, many songs from many different anime series and none are as great as the ones from the BGC OVAs. Pretty much every single song was awesome and I loved all of them especially this one, my all time favorite! :D

  • I love this serie. So long ago... :)

  • Priss...nice Blade Runner link.

  • I know so this series so well, I do not need the subtitles. It's much better than 2040.

  • there is FUCK on the wall at 1:29 cool!

  • I own the series, and I never noticed that. nice eye

  • that was a reply to m3taLB1Rd by the way.

  • BGC is the shit

  • Why the name "Bubblegum crisis" ?

  • I'm not sure but there is a fan rumour that is to do with the amount of technology growing so much like a bubblegum that is is a dependant and becomes a crisis. The following series Crash would be when all the technology turns, which it does.

  • to answer why the name is bubblegum crisis, I'll just say that I heard a slightly different rumor on the subject, but only slightly different.

here is how I heard it. the world is in such peril that it it is like a bubblegum bubble about to burst.

  • Holy damn! BGC is one of the very first, if not THE first anime to come out in the States!

  • saw this in 93 when i was still in high school, and yes i was a dork. 10 years later i enountered the soundtrack at a yard sale in kyoto and bought it. i loved this series.

  • seems like a pretty good anime!!

  • ohh my i dont kon why this still remains one of the best anime i ever seen and yes i love all the cyberpunk anime and sure there are a lot of good ones ( FMP MACROSS SAGA....) but dont know this is one of my fav

  • The "Hurricane Tonight" number is an homage to the a scene in "Streets of Fire" (1984).

  • Which also was hugely popular in Japan, mind you.

  • I watched the end of Streets of fire on You Tube. It was like watching Konya Wa Hurricane, but live action. I loved it. Domo arigato Tomodachi

  • fuckin awseome! :)

  • it's been a while since the last time i watched a full episode of 2032 thanks for uploading this classic dude, i always liked this one better maybe because it was one of the first truly animes i ever saw when i was growing up and from that time on i got fascinated with japanese animation to think it's like 22 years old my own age lol, rock and live on 2032 show others good stuff never dies, you'll always have a fan here, thanks again Noxon

  • its cut -.-

  • i have watched the whole series and its pretty cool. I dont wanna miss it. Priss, Linna, Sylia, Nene are kicking genoms ass.

  • Banzai noxon0!!
