I can't understand how this sort of turbine works. Also the catenary turbine (are they the same principle?). What is giving the "drive" ? The blade facing the airflow, or either of the two edge-on blades?

Anyone care to enlighten me? Or let me know what this type of turbine is called so I can look it up?

comunque la dimostrazione così fatta non va bene: il flusso d'aria del ventilatore colpisce solo una parte del profilo (per forza che gira) la darrieus non è autoavviante, prova a distanziare il ventilatore (in modo che il profilo sia investito da un flusso d'aria uniforme) e poi dai una bella spinta alle pale, dovrebbe per altro girare molto di più :)

idea ingegnosa, però non mi sembra molto performante... potresti provare con più razze invece che 3 o più semplicemente alette più grandi ;D

This type of turbine does not self start. To get it to run you need to spin it up to a certain minimum speed and then it will accelerate from there. In the video it is just turning because of drag from the imbalanced position of the fan. To self start it without spinning it up you can add a small savonious rotor in the middle, and that will help it start, or you can modify the blade shape like the lenz turbine or the pacwind delta series.
