Forrestal Disaster (Aircraft Carrier Explosion) documentary mentions the name of another pilot who jumped off the plane... You can see McCain on the list of pilots, however. No doubt he was there, but I am not sure that was John McCain pointed by the arrow on the video.

Look at the video, the A4's were CLEARLY SIDE BY SIDE, not front to rear like that story floating around the internet. McCain's exhausts were facing out to sea. The claim that his exhausts set off a zuni missile on another A4 is completely and utterly impossible and ridiculous. Especially when you consider the fact that Zuni rockets weren't even carried by A4's, they were on the F4 Phantoms that were on the other side of the flight deck where the rocket was launched.

Even if the F-4 was behind McCain and he did wet start his A-4, it would not have started the fire. The Zuni rocket pod is about 2 1/2 feet off the deck and the A-4 tailpipe is almost 6 feet from the deck. At start up, the engine's RPM is still low and a fire ball would only travel about 20 feet and rise upward. So there is no way that McCain could have started the fire.
Only thing I question is his volunteering to go to another carrier. In his POW questioning by several parties, he stated he went home but was recalled to service because the other carrier had lost 10-12 pilots over Hanoi. He said he was recalled due to a shortage of pilots due to shoot-downs.
So, what is it? Did he volunteer or get forced. In the ad he is a "patriot" in the POW files he is a squeeler. Which is true?
He went back to NAS Cecil , and then went back out to the Oriskany. So the answer to your first question is he volunteered.

The A-4s appear to be facing inboard. If they are, the enjines would be facing towards the ocean (outboard). If that is correct McCain could not have been the cause of the missle "cook off" even if he did perform a so called "wet start"

I'd really like to see this information verified, with names attached. Otherwise, it can only be regarded as nothing more than an urban legend.
This whole story has bullshit written all over it. The investigation (at the time) was headed up by another admiral (just like McCains daddy) McCain had crashed 5 planes before this incident. He finished 184 in a class of 189 yet was able to become a pilot because of his daddys influence. He is an idiot & a warmonger who will have us in a 3rd world war given the opportunity. VOTE OBAMA!!

i really never saw him turn to help someone. but he certainly ran his ass off deck and hung out below while the conflagration consumed many of his fellow sailors. then, uninjured, he was flown away for a little R & R by his admiral daddy. he wasn't even aboard when they held funeral services a couple day later. coward!! McCain lost five planes in the Navy, including the plane he escaped from on the Forrestal, and the one he got shot down in over Vietnam. He was a crappy pilot, and any other pilot with his record would have been grounded. The privilege of being the son and grandson of admirals got McCain off the Forrestal within 30 hours of the accident and to R & R in Thailand. Within a week he was shooting craps on the French Riviera. How come I wasn't in that damn Navy?

Forrestal Disaster (Aircraft Carrier Explosion) documentary mentions the name of another pilot who jumped off the plane... You can see McCain on the list of pilots, however. No doubt he was there, but I am not sure that was John McCain pointed by the arrow on the video.

Look at the video, the A4's were CLEARLY SIDE BY SIDE, not front to rear like that story floating around the internet. McCain's exhausts were facing out to sea. The claim that his exhausts set off a zuni missile on another A4 is completely and utterly impossible and ridiculous. Especially when you consider the fact that Zuni rockets weren't even carried by A4's, they were on the F4 Phantoms that were on the other side of the flight deck where the rocket was launched.

I served on the USS Independence (CV-62) and the USS Kittyhawk (CV-63). If it had been his fault, his career (needless to say imprisionment) would have been over, no questions asked. Do you realize that with accidents resulting from carrier landings, that if a pilot has 2, his flight career is over. I've seen several accounts on when Obama claimed to have had an uncle who freed prisoners from death camps, but many say they that was proven false through official documents. I read the Rolling Stone report. It is very biased, as you are. They had an agenda to defame McCain, and they worded the article completely for their purpose, and it appears that it was mostly just a false interpretation. Kind of reminds me of Keith Olbermann. Even if he did go below decks, there might have been a reason for it. It is possible that there was not enough protective gear for every person to be on deck at once. If anybody knows, it certainly isn't you or Rolling Stone.

The F4 that accidentally fired the Zuni was across the deck from McCains A4. He could not have caused it.

Even if the F-4 was behind McCain and he did wet start his A-4, it would not have started the fire. The Zuni rocket pod is about 2 1/2 feet off the deck and the A-4 tailpipe is almost 6 feet from the deck. At start up, the engine's RPM is still low and a fire ball would only travel about 20 feet and rise upward. So there is no way that McCain could have started the fire.

Only thing I question is his volunteering to go to another carrier. In his POW questioning by several parties, he stated he went home but was recalled to service because the other carrier had lost 10-12 pilots over Hanoi. He said he was recalled due to a shortage of pilots due to shoot-downs.
So, what is it? Did he volunteer or get forced. In the ad he is a "patriot" in the POW files he is a squeeler. Which is true?

Was he a "squealer"? AFAIK, Every POW who was shot down during the years before treatment got better (1969?) was "broken" by torture and maltreatment....Every one that survived anyway.

The A-4s appear to be facing inboard. If they are, the enjines would be facing towards the ocean (outboard). If that is correct McCain could not have been the cause of the missle "cook off" even if he did perform a so called "wet start"

No. He did not "over prime" his engines.
First off, the A-4C (not A-4E as has been endlessly replicated in the wet start smears) had ONE engine.
And, by the accounts of all who were there that day, a ZUNI accidentally fire from the OPPOSITE side of the ship slammed into McCain's aircraft.

So happens I know several people that were on the deck that day. The Zuni was accidentally launched from a VF-11 F-4 on the starboard quarter which hit the A-4s on the port side.
The PLAT footage CLEARLY shows that McCain's A-4 (416) was spilling burning fuel.
Those are the FACTS.
Say what you will about McCain, but don't be laying stupid lies on the backs of the 134 souls who died that day.
