havent seen you for 25 years but hoping to see you next weekend, still miss you & thanksx for all the music you introduced me too back then ,most of all this track.
It's OK I found the other version which in my opinion is superior to this one....A live version from Nina on the album 'Let it be me' from 1987...awesome
This song was my introduction to Nina Simone. I use to play this song over & over again until I fell asleep when my mother went to work. Thanks for uploading. I love this song. It's real.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful! So many good memories associated with this record for me. I bought it in N.O. about ten years ago, on the day before thanksgiving (I'm from England). And here I am listening to it again, at thanksgiving. This is the music that will be playing when I cross the Styx and enter Hades. Thanks.
@dhonez07 It's amazing how youtube is the only place I find people who know of this song. Anyone Maryland who comes across this, there's also another amazing Nina Simone track that I live by but it took another Marylander for me to even remember I own it. Love that the top comments are both about Maryland...makes me remember we have epic music fans sometimes. Hope that you see this a year later /watch?v=A6CK11i6KD0 ...the Kerri Chandler remix isn't too shabby either but I love her work. Meek <3
Thank You so much for posting this, this is my favorite Nina Simone song. What I love about it is that its timeless, it sounds like a recent recording!
Yeah, as soon as drugs started get more popular starting in the mid 1970s, Factories started to leave the city at around the same time. And now, the city is one huge fucking mess.
damn , what i wouldn't give to have a version of this without the strings. THAT , you could buss up it the club. if the record companies were smart they would reiissue all the 60 and 70 soul, sans strings. so many sweet tunes just kinda cheesed up. i dont necissarily mean this tune though. i'll take it with or without , its pure genius. the way nina phrases her delivery is mind blowing. you cant learn that a berkeley.
Baltimore! Just saw French documentary of Nina yesterday at the Maryland Film FEstival. Film presented by Ian Mackaye (Fugazi). Now I find a Youtube of Baltimore. Cheers!
Do you know harvey, that that is probably why/how the sharing of music came about and you-tube came about.
.
The strong capturing of one's past and even childhood that occurs when a memory trace from the past is found again, upon hearing music apparently forgotten.
.
This re-estabilishing in the mind is a powerful phenomenon that can cause the individual to think about what memory is and re-evaluate the whole present in a new richer way.
I heard this the first time on Capital-Radio back in late 70's early 80's. It's so haunting, fantastic production, once heard never forgotten. Thanks for putting this up.
I was one of the lucky to be in one of her appearances and I adore her. Baltimore is my favorite, I don't know why. So I could talk about it if you don't mind... It was written by Randy Newman, and then Nina performed it and it became hers...
There is a cd called "Let it be me" and the bonus track is Baltimore. It's the best ever, if you haven't heard it tell me how to upload it.
I love this album and it is on cd..I was bit dismayed to learn Nina hated this album and the entire experience of recording it..its such a great work..
This is so awesome! thank you for sharing! I love its atmosphere!

@timeoutdean - Randy Newman wrote it, actually. It's on his album Little Criminals. Tamlins and Nina's versions both crush his though.
