  • I see litle problem. Chcek your BREATHING. Control your chest. U should breathing to your stomach. Breathing it´s base for every kata and mainly for kata like tensho and sanchin (sorry for my english, I hope that you understand)

  • breathing pace is incorrect kata is to fast. no breath out on the uchi uke.. based on the sound of your breath the air is trapped in your throat that should fear horrible. let pass out slowling and breath in like your breathing through a straw in your nose... dont trap it in your throat

  • @slickwick45 he probably just did Karate. I was a small child I started karate at 15 bybthe time I was 19, 20 I had a body like that and was surrounded by girls. Not that I did anything with them cas I was too stupid and shy. Instead I got married, now 20 years and 2 children later, my son has had an interest in karate so ive taken it up again, been training hard. Karate can give you a real great body if you train it right. OSS

  • I like this kata, but my style don't teach it. You've toned up well, I hope to take black belt in 12 months, I'm a 1st kyu in ishinryu karate. Nice home dojo. OSS! To your health my friend.

  • hello, I like your kata. keep practicing.

I notive in your comment you say your turning your garage into a home dojo and I notive you have a makiwara (sorry if not spelling right) how did you fix it to the floor?

  • Thanks

  • You look in great physical condition! And it looks like you do your best to do what your Sensei had taught you.

  • @SenseiEli I'm trying my best. Cheers

  • Your breathing is wrong, you must try to increase your stomach, not your chest. Your feet are not passing by the heisoku. Your hikite is too down, you have to put your hand at the height of the nipple. Just details, but nice job. Sorry the english, i don't speak it very well.

  • @lameloyd Thanks for the input, I'm a way off yet but progressing Cheers.

  • very very good!

  • i practice goju ryu and that was an exellent kata.

  • I am a 1st dan Black belt from Australia who studys and trains okinawan goju ryu karate, love your kata. Alot of people don't understand this kata, it is our core kata same as tensho, and takes a lifetime to perfect, love your work, Go True Karate.

  • My sensei just started re doing some of the katas and sanchin is one of them. This is the original sanchin I take it? This form is what we're doing now. You look very good in this video. I will be taking my black belt test soon and being able to do this kata properly is one of the requirements. How on earth did you get a body like that? What kind of training do you do?

  • @slickwick45 (Good luck with your grading. (I only train GoJu and Parkour)

  • It's good, but too fast!!! Four counts on the long inhales and four on the exhales. It feels like a race.

  • Thank You very much.

    perfect video of sanchin-no kata.

  • You don't happen to have trained with sensei frank clayton do you? Your kata is the exact same as ours is at the Canadian martial arts academy. If so that is awesome, good kata.

  • @AurumenK Sorry I have never been to Canada:( This kata was taught to me by Shigetoshi Senaha Sensei.. Student of Meitoku Yagi Sensei.

  • i've been doing goju ryu for almost a year now and i was wondering...what does the breathing accomplish? how does it help the fighter?

  • @blobbobash If you don't know by now perhaps you should ask an instructor. If they can't tell you then it isn't a very good school. its about power, full body tension to build your muscles in a very specific way. To rip through an opponent.

  • i've been doing goju ryu for almost a year now and im just curios...what does the breathing accomplish when practicing this kata? how does it help the fighter?

  • watching this makes me want to pick up sanchin n tensho again... arghhhhh curse my lazy ass.

there are many different variations of sanchin kata. sanchin is a meditation kata which allows us to strengthen our body through breathing excercises and allows us to strengthen our muscles through the tensing up.

  • @ienjoymodels

there is a heavily exagerated version of this done by most american goju dojos and other art forms that branched off of goju ryu.

those afore mentioned arts are imitating the sequence and from my past and personal experience they lack the true essance behind the form.

  • their minds are clouded as they do the form and focus more on vanity more than the actually movement. their movements are harsh and inaccurate.

in this video this sanchin is similar to the one that I do.

this form is not jus any kata it is the essence of goju ryu.

  • Nice set. I just learned this kata tonight. Very cool.

  • The only real problem that I have with your Kata is that you're moving a little too fast. Otherwise keep up the good work. Oos.

  • To 'sevenhuman', thankyou for sharing your journey with us. Your interpretation of kata sanchin is very good, such focus and control. I hope that I can one day perform this kata this well. To 'loolooface', no matter what dan you are your character is flawed. Do karate a favour and stick to NasCar.

  • @fitnessworksdarwinau I have a way to go, But thank you :)

  • I've just started learning Goju Ryu over the last two months, and have been looking for videos of the kata I'm learning. There are so many versions of Sanchin across the styles, as well as within Goju Ryu! Yours is the closest I've found to the way we practice it. Thanks for posting this!

  • @sevenhuman No worries. Good luck with your training :)

  • BORING!!

the mawashi uke was totally crap!

  • @loolooface Really!...? Why not tell me why Instead?

  • @GojuTraceur well first of all this kata is just boring... (even tensho is boring) next, he did it very boringly....

    Rules in mawashi uke:

    keep fingers straight

the uperhand needs to go a 3/4 circle and the lower hand needs to go a 1/2 circle

it is a push to the shoulder and the thigh

    BTW what grade is he?

i am a shitoryu 3rd dan, goju ryu shodan-ho, kobudo 4th dan, 7 times kata champion( i actually did 7 different katas :P)

  • @loolooface (He) I am Sandan (Okinawan GoJu Ryu Ryusyokai) Traditional KarateDo taught to me by Shigetoshi Senaha Sensei 9thDan . I am surprised that you (Being a GoJu student) have such a dislike the the Kata. Sure it isn't one of the prettiest kata, but it is one of the fundamental Kata of GoJu Ryu. This kata is prob the hardest to perfect - it concentrates on breathing and strength. As far as your version of Mawashi uke. It sounds as though it is the Japanese because of the straight fingers..

  • @loolooface Also the wide push with mawashi uke is a Japanese trait. You obviously do sport Karate, which would explain your style of kata. Sport Karate doesn't impress me. because the kata have been changed to make them look pretty and the meanings of them are thrown out for looks instead. I have no doubt you do them well, but they are missing practicality. which will be shown in the bunkai. I don't care for karateka who boast about rank and how many trophies they have.

  • @loolooface True Karateka are respectful regardless of style. I hope to train with you one day. Then you can teach me all you know.

  • @loolooface wow what an ignorant 'expert' you are... There are as many variations of this kata as there are senseis. Have a look at the original uechi and pangai noon versions. How can a kata - even from the same style - be the same all over the world?? moron

  • This is the pre-war version of Goju-ryu sanchin before Chojun Miyagi removed the turning section, and it's a good performance btw.The post-war version was front-facing only. After the punch the arm returns to yoko-uke position, but in our school it's a straight-line pull-back action (whereas you are doing a circular movement). So I'm guessing Meibukan?

  • Or Goju-kai ?

  • @Pecherin72 I have always been training this way - Yamaguchi Gogen Sensei way Goju Kai. More recently (approx 6 years) We have become affiliated with Our head instructor Shigetoshi Senaha Sensei. (Founder of Ryusyokai Okinawan GoJu Ryu) Student of Meitoku Yagi Sensei (Founder of Meibukan)

So yes, you are correct, it would be Yagi Sensei and also Yamaguchi Sensei - way of Sanchin. :)

  • Nice Kata, I've done GOJU for years and I'm actually testing for my black belt tonight.

  • Good Luck :)

  • is he robocop?

  • This is the original kata I was taught, it's nearly impossible to find a goju ryu dojo that teaches this one. But I was taught also to train with weights on this one, 8 pounds to start and man were my arms ever sore after a day of training. Sure you don't need weights but it helps develop your muscles a heck of a lot.

  • Thanks for posting! I've been in Ryusyokai for a few years but with my Sensai 2 hours away, training gets tough!

  • Can you build a body like that with out the use of weight training?

  • I've only ever used GoJu and my own body weight exercises for training. You don't need weights.

  • Mr Argie,

I go away for a while and the whole world goes crazy. You jump off buildings Scottie climbs mountains. Sheesh... just to let you know I am back... have many stories to tell... and that I am a GOJU lad again.

    Wilko

    By the way, Nice Kata.

  • IOGKF?

  • Okinawan GoJuRyu Ryusyokai.

    G.R.A. (GoJuRyu Australia).

  • Thank you for posting. Keep an eye on your breathing into your chest as opposed to your abdomen, or better yet, your tanden. Happy Training.

  • You are a powerful man Argie.

    Even your breathing has power.

  • This Kata emphasizes the Go (Hard) In (GO)Ju Ryu Karate

  • @GojuTraceur it also emphasizes soft ju in goju ryu.

when in chamber the arm is soft while the fist is hard. this trains the practitioner who to strike effectively.

but once the arm moves it circulates like a torpedo or a tornado until it "locks" up. i guess u can say.

everything else is tight while the arm is soft for that small moment.

  • Ha ha. Year I'll admit Sanchin Kata looks pretty funny to an outsider. There is a lot to this Kata. (By no means have I perfected it).

If you do a bit of research... it may open your mind a bit to what's going on:)

Parkour is also funny to an outsider... they also laugh.

  • I think it looks pretty solid actually. All systems have their own interpretations, so there will always be differences, nice clean kata / exercise.

  • Don't get me wrong, I think it looks pretty serious in fact. But all the seriousness and the breathing made me laugh.

:P Parkour is definitly hilarious, haha. :P

  • The way that they test this traditionally is to hit you with a stick. What would be funny if you tried this yourself. Maybe you should grab a video and try it?

    :>

  • I wonder how, kinda impossible to do it alone. You need to flex your body while the helper hit you.

The way i train before is actually combination hitting, like sholder, back, buttock. Of cos is hitting with the palm not using sticks.

  • not all sanchin is meant to be done while u are being striked by a partner the main point of sanchin is to develope proper breathing with movement

  • @Christeron my sensei used his hand as well. i asked him why and he told me several reasons.

one would be to feel the tensity of my muscles and if it is wrong he would correct me. therefore i wont get hurt.

another was to transfer his energy to me. lol

u could believe which ever one but it seems that both of our sensei had good intentions to not harm us. lol

  • Have you tested yourself in competition yet?

  • I have competed in tournaments before (a long time ago, and done well) but I lean away from competition in Karate.

This is just my personal view. Which also alines with the same view I have with competition in Parkour.
