Jed McKenna has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. His books are shit. Mindfulness of death is extremely important, but his writing is just a bunch of jibberish made to fill the pages of a book. Alan Watts can articulate all of this with like 2 sentences. So can any 12 year old.
I'd like to add a comment that a good friend sent me when I sent him this video. It's just another perspective and one that I resonate with.
"One of my pet peeves is the over-stimulation of the senses. the visual images were good and the ideas were brilliant, but the music was too much on top of the other two inputs and I think it got in the way of a good message.
the only performance of the moonlight sonata that matters is the interesting, iconic one by Glen Gould.
Well... I think that life is about escaping from wanting things here on earth to be what you want them to be. What Buddhists describe as the 8 worldly concerns, THAT is the addiction. So the question: why aren't you doing what you really want, is just driving people further into the addiction. The problem is not denying death, the problem is being addicted to the self, to ego, to an illusion. Doing what is right, is doing what is good for others, not what feels good to yourself.
@nielsjoklein What a hollow bunch of self serving nonsense. Selflessness, when truly known, Isn't acted out for selflessness sake, That's just another excuse to call self. Its just acted.
Look, right now, deeply into the possibility that there is no you of any kind and actually... all action is already selfless, The assumption that there's a thing taking or claiming the action is what twists it into selfishness. really. look at it honestly. There is no you behind your actions or thoughts.
I am progressively an Immortalist.. and I believe/ feel that humans should begin talking and seeing that as a true possibility for [our/ their] reality... after all, I can imagine that happening, so it could be a possibility scientifically and spiritually
I'd love to do a Norquist tribute like one of these but I don't think he has an audio book out yet and the advantage to having this stuff read by a real actor is so big
I just got my hands on a David Carse audio book so I was thinking maybe 2 video tribute to his book

This is truly morbid. While it may be useful to periodically contemplate death to think of it constantly is neurotic.

Ahab.
Who else's work, etc are you working with/on?
How about Steven Norquist? No one has gotten an interview with him, yet, as far as I know.
Love that Iron and Wine song.
All very cool.
Thanks again.
