@oakwooddairy1 The unit in Canola is running on a WAAS bases system that cost around $15K. Due to the machine running pass to pass in every operation, it really makes no difference what correction source. The machine will perform pretty much the same on either correction source.
That first swather was going a lot slower then we cut in hay. We cut in road gear full speed,15 to 16 mph. Does speed affect well how the auto steer works? What about hitting big bumps does it respond fast enough to correct that?
The MacDon has three ranges. Low and Medium can be used in the field. Autosteer is recommended for low range only, but I know of several customers who are using it in medium range up to the top end.

some crops require swathing in order to speed drying. Other crops will shatter if not harvested before they start to dry out. This gives too much head loss on windy days. by cutting when still green, the crop stas in the head.
In this application, the operator could then devote more energy to getting maximum capacity out of the machine. We were able to increse speed by more than 2.5 kph over steering manual. That adds up in a days time. Also, keep eyes ahead looking for rocks instead of looking at the end of the header.

Depends on the accuracy you want, WAAS or RTK. Low end systems start around $7500, RTK systems can run around $30,000
