Somehow I hadn't heard this song for a long time even being a certified Jack White fan for a while. Um WHOOAOOAOAOAOAOAOAOA. This is why I LOVE him so much. Him laughing at his lyrics as it goes? Perfect. Love, love, love.
All of the lyrics in this song are really clever but one of my favourite lyrics ever (from any song) has to be "Well you burnt my house down, then got mad at my reaction" says alot about how accountable people (us/we/them) are for their actions these days.
"Well you seem to forget, just how this all started, I'm reacting to you because you left me broken-hearted" Jack's lyrics just pull at my soul, man. It's like he knows what I want to hear.
I miss the White Stripes. But, believe it or not, I think it was smart for them to have broken up. I know it sounds crazy, and I can't really explain it, but I feel like now that they're finished, going back and listening to all their songs in order is almost like a good story. And every good story story has to end :-S. Jack himself said that they broke up to preserve what is special and magical about the band, and they did just that. Still, I will miss them. I love you White Stripes.
i literally love every single song they make. LITERALLY. i actually purposely dont download all their songs at once because i like adding songs like... 6 at a time, so i absorb them and get a little treat every couple of weeks >.<
they had a good long run, but so sad they put it up :(
This song is so fucking amazing, I can relate to these lyrics COMPLETELY. God, have I missed out on this amazing song or what?! Anyone else got any suggestions for any other amazing songs/lyrics by them?!
I love this song but it makes me sad because it is the last song(chronologically) from the White Stripes. In the 6 years I've been an avid fan I never got to see them play live:(
This song is featured on the opening of the documentary film called Tapped about corporate control of water human beings depend on for life. Listeners of all levels of appreciation may like this song more if you heard it in the context of that film.
why do people get upset when people hit the dislike button.. who cares.. its like they're admitting that there f***ing douchebags that dont know anything about good music haha.. I feel sorry for them
OK! Jack freakin White was listed at number 17 on Rolling Stones top 100 guitar players of all time. AND, treymartin3334, are whining too, so get over it, MrChicagoMusic is entitled to his own oppinion no matter how Stupid he is. And why would you listen to it if all you do is complain about it?
i really like how this album is mostly focused on bluegrass/blues songs, and how the white stripes adopt a new genre into every one of their albums. i think this is not only a great song, but a great bluegrass/blues song.
You must have no idea what real good bluegrass or real good blues sounds like if you think this is either. Maybe you need to listen to a little Muddy Waters, SRV, Doc Watson or Earl Scruggs to understand...
@MrChicagoMusic well theres a hell of a lot of critics and other musicians who disagree with you. the white stripes are deffinately blues based. maybe a fresh way of playing it, but deffinately blues
@MrChicagoMusic name one authentic music style originating in Chicago? None - I'll answer it for you....you need to study because you have put your foot in your mouth. Jack is from Detroit but studied Delta Blues Music from the great state of Mississippi (and western Louisiana) . Jack and Meg play punk fused with Blues, but his past history and deep affection are relegated to Delta Blues. You're welcome punk
@treymartin3334 ... umm Chicago Blues is one of the biggest branches of the genre... sure it's a combination of delta blues/electric blues but the point stands. Not to mention that grunge may have originated in Seattle but it was brought up in Chicago with Vedder, Corgan, and many of the hardcore punk/garage rock bands of the era that influenced it growing up there....
@pepsihockey05 - Chicago was an area where newly freed slaves went to look for work and escape the southern bigotry - that reason, and no other, is the reason that Chicago had an claim to blues. What came later was the melting pot we know as Americana. In essence, Chicago has plagiarized their style from the more prominent, long term music styles.
@treymartin3334 .... the same could be said of anywhere if you wanna use logic like that. The only "true" music in that case all spawns from the slave spirituals and southern soul music.... and better, I guess all American music is unoriginal as at some point it must refer back to classical European influences. That melting pot effect is exactly what makes a style unique enough to earn a description. As such they have just as much a claim to blues as anyone else.
Regardless of where musical genres originate, the point is that The White Strips is a poorly played bastardized version of sloppy blues. The day this music is referred to as simply "Blues" or even being more "Blues" leaning than punk or just loud rock music, is the day that Blues really starts to lose its integrity as a genre. Jack is a poor guitar player and Meg is a horrible drummer and if it weren't for their gimmicks, none of us would be discussing them. They are a gimmick.
@MrChicagoMusic -- damn dude, ease back on the hostility. Did you know Jack or Meg in your youth while still haboring those negative childhood emotions, or what? Listed to the song, or don't, just quit your damn verbal "dribble".
Whiners are losers Chicago Music.....now you aren't a whiner, are you? Do you need to stand in the corner for 5 minutes?
Somehow I hadn't heard this song for a long time even being a certified Jack White fan for a while. Um WHOOAOOAOAOAOAOAOAOA. This is why I LOVE him so much. Him laughing at his lyrics as it goes? Perfect. Love, love, love.
