well in this version, the band Traffic is the backing group; That would lead me to believe that it's Dave Mason on guitar. I found something on the internet the other day about Lowell George (from Little Feat) being present during the sessions, but I'm not sure that he played on this track. Probably it's Dave Mason.
@hotdaveog Definitely Keith I would say, certainly for the most part but Ry Cooder could well be in the mix somewhere. Interesting version though don't you think?
Sex, drugs, money & too much free time on one's hands; Brian complained to John Lennon about Mick taking control, & Lennon told Brian that it was his band & to basically tell Mick so. Like another post said, Brian had many issues of his own, which consumed him. He was talented & died too young. I love the Stones, but Brian was the better fit.
it looked like brian got along well with the other stones, so it makes me wonder why they would kick him off. I mean that pie fight with him and mick they were having so much fun
@spain1973 Nearly all of us are junkies of some kind... with food, television, internet, tobacco, alcohol, sex, drugs... the list goes on. Are you absolutely certain that Jones was a junkie? Could you point to your source of indisputable information? His post mortum report showed little to no trace of any illicit substance, and only a moderate level of a prescription drug.
Its funny; I found this fact out myself just the other day as well. Now that I know it seems obvious, eh? Truly does sound like that laid back Traffic groove.
Good ol Stevie Winwood (and Dave mason for that matter).
"In order to stabilize world population, it is necessary to eliminate 350,000 people a day. Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (U.N.E.S.C.O.)
"A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal." — Ted Turner of C.N.N., as quoted in the "McAlvany Intelligence Advisor," 6/96
The Stones sound like they're practicing. The photos are very interesting! Brian is obviously the heartbeat of the Band - one very intelligent & talented young artist who left an amazing legacy.

Brian was the star in this band and he could have been the star in other bands if he was alive. He was going to work with Hendrix, Clapton and Lennon, but since Mick Jagger out Cunts Lizzie Borden, we will never know.

keith treates himself as something when he hits fans in the stage as if we never know what he ever did. nothing but a garbage can noise that both of those criminals call music. Mick stole Sister Morphine just when Marianne was homeless.
It's not The Rolling Stones song! It's Mick Jagger solo. This version features Al Kooper on guitar, and perhaps Brian Jones and Stevie Winwood of Traffic as well. Either Charlie Watts or Jim Capaldi (also of Traffic) plays drums on this record
I'd only known of two versions of this ! ... Nitzsche produced the film version and Jimmy Miller produced the Metamorphosis version ... This is very close to the version tha is on the US release of Metamorphosis. It may be the same take but with different post production. The version on the British release of Metamorphosis is a bit slower and not quite as raunchy sounding. Thi is better, but the US release is the best.
@shimokita2 How do you know if he liked it? He was high as a kite FFS.. Brian has NEVER been described as a violent man by nature by anyone who knew him. I'm not defending him for beating women - he has and that is just wrong. But he wasn't alone doing that. Lennon, Hendrix and Jagger have also done it. Brian wasn't anymore of a prick than most "stars" back then.
@atticthoughts - Right. Listen to a few of the other guys in the band and some of the people that were around at the time and the stories are endless. Brian got off on beating up the girls. He beat one girl so badly in Florida that she was put in hospital. The unfortunate thing about that is that none of the others tried to stop it. A member of the road crew finally went in and clobbered the shit out of Brian after he saw the young girl laying on the floor. Everyone heard the beatings.
@shimokita2 Again, I have not find a single valid source that support that story and those sources rely on what the Stones and people who knew them well say. I'm not saying that Brian didn't beat some of his women but I don't believe for a second that Brian beat up women because he got off. On the other hand I guess it's easy to believe that if you don't know very much about him and his story. He had a lot of things going on inside emotionally and the drugs made that worse.
i have seen this Cheap movie PERFOMANCE featuring Mick Jagger,1991 soho in London. ,but this song "memo from turner" I like too much than another songs of Rolling Stones .Whatever, who play the keybord ,Brian,?
Yeah you're right. I forgot Nicky Hopkins did some piano work. But Ian Stuart was the main keyboard player who was with them right from the start. They just kept him in the background becuase he didn't fit the part. He was the 6th Rolling Stone.
@BipolarPics I read something about that as well. I also saw or read an interview with Keith regarding Jones' death where Keith basically said that he found it impossible that Jones would have drowned. Richards suspected foul play. Jones was a fucked up guy. There are stories about him beating Anita Pallenberg and frequently throwing violent temper tantrums. T
The Stones were his band initially. Unfortunately for Brian, despite being a virtuoso he lacked the ability to write songs.
@tonyfrombalt - Brian Jones beat a female fan so badly once in Florida when on tour that one of the Stone's road crew attacked Brain for what he'd done to her. He got off on beating the shit out of women.
@shimokita2 Have you got a believable source on that story about Brian and the fan? It sounds like pure BS and again you assume that Brian "got off" or "liked" beating women. What are your reasons for believing that?
@atticthoughts - I'm not going to do your research for you. Figure it out for your fucking self. The info is out there and so are the people who were present when all this stuff happened.
@shimokita2 I have read about Brian and his time in the Stones for years and I have not find a single valid source that support what you write about him. The "people" who you claim were present during the "Brian and fan"-event doesn't seem to have been trustworthy enough to include in other and better researched sources and since you won't even reveal where you found this episode I'd say that it's based on speculation and BS. When it comes to Brian there are lots of it.
@tonyfrombalt Brian suffered from severe depression from a very young age (about 10) and when he was low he was LOW. as for couldn't write lyrics tht bollocks he wrote the music to so many stones songs but jagger took all the credit, thats partly why Brian left, he wrote the lyrics to 'No Expectations' half of 'Ruby Tuesday' among others.
@skint0n0minted Brian didn't get the credit he deserved in his time with the stones becouse they wanted him out becouse of his many issues. It is sad but he was extremely talented and when he was on he was on!
@tonyfrombalt Having a low self esteem, psychological issues since childhood and a loveless upbringing it wasn't that strange that he became fucked up on drugs. Although he did have violent clashes with women he wasn't a violent man in general. More cocky and whiny.
Nobody really knows if Brian could write songs. He wrote the score to a soundtrack and many claim that he recorded his own material at home. There are lots of myths about Brian's music and it's hard to know what's true.
'Performance' wouldn't get Mick an oscar but was an intereseting period. Mick was supposedly really shaken after a night out with co-star John Binden - who wouldn't have been?
HOW MUCH DID THE FILM "STONED" W/ Leo Gregory and Tuva Novotny...LEND To Mssr. BRIAN JONES,esq. To Live on? The Volume "GOLDEN STONE" was also a Tribute/Tributary...perhaps opening up ,perhaps - shedding some light on our "Great Friend" Brians' demise! Thanks for the post! This version is real loose anf funky. Very nice, however I'm still partial to the soundtrack version with Ry Cooder. It seems to capture the darkness of the movie a little more. Either way, a great tune.
Isnt the released version with Ry Cooder the "original" , the Performance version and this an outtake from those sessions while the Metamophosis version is the horrible verion with Keith and this could be an "Performance sessions" outtake with Ry, Brian, Al Kooper among others.
Holy Crap! Better than the original! Where did you get this? Definately Ry Cooder on slide guitar. Sounds like Jim Capaldi on drums. Well tell us where this came from!
Sounds like the same vocal track as the released version.

(a.k.a ELMO JAMES)--- Naw, HE wasn't 'goin' down Slow"... he was found PUSHED! (misadventure, was the Coroners' Finding. My ASS!!) Who held "COPYWRIGHT OWNERSHIP " To the groups' Name-when they were Incorporated?(Could have been BRIAN JONES?)!

HMMN! The MORE ONE LISTENS to "MEMO FROM TURNER(ALTERNATE VERSION)",The More one Sees How Masterful a STUDIO - Take it ,essentially is! This Particular Essential ERA of The ROLLING STONES Masterful! Studio Presence, Much Like "Child of the Moon",'SYMPATHY', SALTof The EARTH,and Many others.. Have been Overlooked, from a Cinematography Genre' Entirely! The Pity of it is That 'Sympathy' was the SOLE Contribution by Jean LUC-GODDARD of such a Critically Creative Time in REPITOIRE!!"FILMS, Any,?"

The PURE TEARING AGAINST SOCIETYs' FABRIC...By THE 'REAL' ROLLING STONES, as I First Heard them Back in 1963...Yeah, The PICS did an Awful Lot To SET THE "CONVEYANCE" of the Lyrics! As RAW..as One May Imagine the 'Stones BEING! "MEMO FROM TURNER" (Alternate Take)Would BE THE Better of THE two..From THE Film"PERFORMANCE"as I Recall. Has an 'EDGE --UP'on The Classic"MIDNIGHT RAMBLER" I Believe!A Great Posting!Shame, I FEEL That a "TAPING" of sorts Needs Be Made Available to the Public!

What year was this recorded? Late '68, early '69? The version on Metamorphasis is almost unlistenable. This version is funky!!!

Holy Crap! Better than the original! Where did you get this? Definately Ry Cooder on slide guitar. Sounds like Jim Capaldi on drums. Well tell us where this came from!
