I feel that this group is better than a token love ballad, especially after last year's revelatory "Listen."

Agreed 100%. It's a shame that such an amazingly talented group of musicians is performing such lackluster music.

To me, the "lackluster" music is secondary to the talent. Don't hate, just enjoy.

But in all seriousness, no, not even same-sex undertones would have elevated the song choice (though it might have made it far less cliche).
