well when testing out, they are in a relaxxed mode thus using very little energy, which helps in spinning the ball. but in competitions when tensions are high, they tend to put in more energy into the kick and due to the textured but slippery surface of the ball, less drag +higher altitude causes the ball to move further and bounce higher..
