These ABC "social experiments" are so stupid. They conduct the experiment, but they never give any insight as to why people behave the way they do. REAL scientists have conducted REAL scientific experiments that explain most of the behaviours you see on this show, but they never even mention any of that. ABC has an opportunity here to really educate people about human psychology, but they go for moral indignation instead.

Ok first of all this is sooo not a good experiment because if you checked out the video, the way the thief took the radio was totally different when the actor was being mean versus when she was being nice. When she was nice/didn't make small talk, the thief just walked up and took the radio. But when she was mean, the thief ran up, took the radio and ran away. It's almost like they needed a little extra staging to get others to help since the lady was so rude to begin with. Anyone else get me?

The bias in this test makes the results useless. The only time that people chased the guy was when he ran up to the iPod and ran away with it. When he walked towards the iPod nobody did anything. It had nothing to do with how the actress treated the people around her, more what people see as suspicious, i.e a man sprinting towards an item than running off with it.
I think that the results of this experiment are affected somewhat by the way in which the hired thief acts as he steals the ipod. When the people do nothing, the thief walks up calmly, picks it up and walks away calmly. The people seem to react more when the thief looks more suspicious and runs off with the ipod.

Ok first of all this is sooo not a good experiment because if you checked out the video, the way the thief took the radio was totally different when the actor was being mean versus when she was being nice. When she was nice/didn't make small talk, the thief just walked up and took the radio. But when she was mean, the thief ran up, took the radio and ran away. It's almost like they needed a little extra staging to get others to help since the lady was so rude to begin with. Anyone else get me?

The bias in this test makes the results useless. The only time that people chased the guy was when he ran up to the iPod and ran away with it. When he walked towards the iPod nobody did anything. It had nothing to do with how the actress treated the people around her, more what people see as suspicious, i.e a man sprinting towards an item than running off with it.

I think that the results of this experiment are affected somewhat by the way in which the hired thief acts as he steals the ipod. When the people do nothing, the thief walks up calmly, picks it up and walks away calmly. The people seem to react more when the thief looks more suspicious and runs off with the ipod.
