  • not bad buddy! awesome work!

  • what are the values?please i cant get the sound, great video pretty close to the original

  • I can't remember the precise settings. Just make sure that the two right-hand knobs on the tremolo are turned all the way over to the right. The leftmost knob then has to be fiddled with, to get the correct timing.

Aside from that, you've just got to ride the expression pedal up and down (on the resonance setting) which is really 50% of the sound.

  • can this be mix with some analog pedals>?

  • Nice !

  • how do u turn on the expersion pedal

    it doesnt turn on

  • Push down a little harder on the top end. Don't jump on it - just push firmly until it turns on. I had that problem too.

  • @Zebonka hey it worked thanks

  • i love your poster and your playing

  • I used to play this intro on my guitar with my old ancient Boss effects box, which had a cracking delay on it.. plus adding a bit of Phaser..

  • Not bad at all. And Empire Strikes Back is the best movie ever!

  • that sounds great! and you shouldn't be afraid of people trashing your keyboard playing skills, you're way better than me!

  • That's most kind! I'd like to practice it a bit more and use it in a cover someday.

  • This is beyond awesome-Hey I don't know if you use softsynths but if you want the sounds of an ARP Quadra I have made one for a computer-check my channel.Peace.

    Great vid by the way.

  • I'm very fond of emulated synths like the ARP ones, the CS-80, etc. People usually hate on the sounds but what they don't realise is that they sound pretty kicking if you actually run them through a real keyboard amp (the way you probably would with a real synth).

  • Not bad! I use a Yamaha for Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba also. But, I designed a patch on my Yamaha and prefer to play the pulses myself, really riles up the crowd!

  • Man!! Thats awesome!!!! Keep it up!!

  • Bueno job:)

  • nice

  • NICE!!!

  • amazing sound! check out my guitar uploads if you get a chance - all effects on my uploads are from the boss ME-50. Love it

  • sounds just like it! Well done.

  • Well done, that sounds absolutely right. But watch your rocking on the resonance pedal, sometimes in this vid you go either toe or heel too far, and it either shrieks or gets very muddy... Other than that, good job on finding this gem of a tone!

  • oh my god thats incredible!!!

  • Cool song huh! One of my favourites.

  • That's incredible! Well done man!

  • Cheers!

  • well done. well-fkn-done.

  • Thanks!

  • Dude! Awesome!

  • how did you produce the pattern for Baba O'Riley?

  • In this video it's not really very authentic, I'm using the same tremolo trick as Won't Get Fooled, it's just sped up.

Check out /watch?v=8-pKIiY1g7w and /watch?v=GA7Y5f_C-tw for some better Baba O'Riley attempts. The latter uses a real Lowry organ, so that's as close as you can get it.

    Cheers!

  • i have the same pedal board haha

  • Amazing !!!

  • Nice job, very innovative indeed. Maybe we can get you to work on the economy next. :-)

  • sounds cool man

  • simply amazing

  • It's a damn cool song hey!

  • wow, perfect!!

  • Alrighty, it's been a good 3 months since I told you about the Baba O'Riley thing, and two months since I promised I would get a video up. Well, I finally did. It's not the best quality, but it should suffice for now.

  • Bravo!

  • real cool!!!!

  • いいぞ!!もっとやれ!!

  • very cool man!!!!

i'd love to know how to play this on guitar,

do you have a version without the effects?

would love to try to reCreate with my P.O.G. and me-50

  • and that's why i'm getting an me-50 soon after my first electric guitar. into rock but a fair bit of electro too

  • They work pretty well with just about any instrument I can think of .. guitar pedals are the bomb!

  • Good sound, I have to play it out, when I play with a full band. The Gtr helps me on Baba O'Riley..so, If You like the who, You might like Me! Solo keyboards! check me out! Jambox/headgames let me know?

  • what you used for that lasers effect at intro?

    thanks

  • Adobe After Effects. I was using a plugin called Trapcode Lux ... I think?

  • I just bought a vintage Lowrey organ at Goodwill. I thought I read something about it being the kind Pete used back when, so I got it. While I was dicking around with it I realized that just one button, "Marimba Repeat", could make the organ produce the effect heard on Baba O'Riley. I had always thought there was some synths involved, but I guess not! What a lucky find.

  • Aaargh!! I am extremely envious, you should get a video up!

  • Could you make some Marimba Repeat demo video?

  • Yeah, no prob. I've been wanting to get the Turbo Organ (what I like to call it) online for a couple months now.

  • Can't wait, that'll be awesome!

  • Awsome thank you very much

  • Wow! Can you come to Brazil and jam along?

  • Ha!! If I ever had the money, sure.

  • If I'll ever win the lottery, I'll send you some !

  • I used mine with keys as well...awesome stuff

  • this is awesome , if not for the synth sounds then surely for the bespin cloud city on your wall!

  • AWESOME you nailed it . I could hear the drums in my mind crashin in at certain points .

  • Ha! I'll have to do a video where that happens, hehe.

  • HAHA, I heard the same thing.

  • what are u using to get the repeating sound and they waves of bassyness to treblyness =D

  • The repeat sound is a guitar tremolo effect on the middle of the pedal.

The sweeping frequencies going up and down, is the result of the Resonance setting on the big pedal on the right.

  • Very Cool! do you have a tab for this or know where I can get the tab for it? :)

  • Sorry, I played it by ear. Probably got it horribly wrong too!

  • wow verry accurate :) \

  • Could you try "Baba O' Reily" next????

  • Saweet! You're hired!

  • love this song...;) The Who 4 the Win;)

  • Are the paintings on your wall, or the wallpaper, of Hoth and Cloud City? O_o

  • It's wallpaper, but yes! From 1980, would be worth thousands if it wasn't already on my wall...

  • Gorgeous sound - unworldly... takes me back

  • fucking good attempt mate

  • baba o riley uses a delay with the 1st setting of the 'feedback' knob

if i were you, i'd either find a different organ sound, or take away the wetness of it. I did wgfa the exact same way except with a yamaha dgx 505 on the 186 setting

  • Shortly after doing the video I looked for some other organ sounds on the Yamaha ... a couple were promising, but I couldn't be stuffed amending this video at the time.

Suffice it to say; a better organ sound makes it sound even awesomer. Heh

  • What was that light set up you got? What machine was it?

  • You're the first person to ask!

No lights here I'm afraid, I used After Effects and a plugin called Lux to do a sort of "Won't Get Fooled Again" imitation.

  • that sounds great.

I got a sound close to the wont get fooled again sound by using a really crappy yamaha keyboard, a boss phase shifter pedal, a vox wah pedal, and a tremelo setting on my guitar amp. haha

  • Indeed, it's interesting how you can get a good sound with even a shit keyboard!

One day I'll try this trick through a really nice organ... well, that's once I meet someone who has one!

  • is he drunk?

  • No.

If I were though, imagine what I might've been able to do while sober.... haha.

  • Its pretty amazing for me! you did awesome! those songs are made with heavy sinthesisers and you did it with few things! congrats!!

  • Comment removed

  • both of our guitars play through the me 50. i swear we jam for hours just with those things.... such a useful piece of equipment

  • If I have the boss TR-2 Tremolo and a Reverb pedal what kind of expression pedal would I be looking for to create the sweeps that you're getting out of your keyboard?

Also, your video is really well done.

  • I'm not entirely sure what pedals there are that offer a resonance filter like the one on the ME-50.

  • is there a way you can put this up as an mp3 so i can use it as a looping track if i wanted to cover it?

  • I could, technically, but I didn't play the whole song. It would sound pretty bad once you get to the bits I haven't done.

Someday, I would like to put the whole song up. I'd have to practice a bit though, hehe.

  • I really enjoyed listening to this, a proper education in synths and effects :)

  • Thankyou kindly!

  • what's song is it at 0:51???

  • 0:51 is the point at which I stop mucking about and start playing the actual song for which the video was named... ha-ha.

  • won't get fooled again by the who

  • hence the title of the video lol

  • does anyone know where synthesizers cost cheap at? because i want 1 now!

  • dude. this KICKS ASS!!!

  • Nice attempt at these complex songs!!

  • Indeed, though I'd like to see an actual keyboard player have a shot using this rig!

  • Good move. I have always used guitar pedals on keyboards--it´s a trick most keyboardists don´t go with.

  • Opens up a ton of possibilities doesn't it!

  • couldn't agree more. i always do it when i have the chance; i also attempted this effect using the phaser and reverb effects on my pedal plus the tremolo effect on my amp. i thought it sounded ok, but after seeing this i realize i still have a LOT to learn!

i DID manage to get the Jon Lord distorted organ effect right though... heheh

  • Hehe! Flangers and phasers do give quite a cool sound, but it's not quite the same as a resonance filter sort of sweeping from the top to bottom frequencies. The equipment is different of course, but that's the effect Pete used, and the only real reason that this video sounds anything like the original :)

  • KINDA NEAT THAT YOU DID IT ON A CHEAP YAMAHA HOME KEYBOARD AND TOWNSHEND DID IT ON A 25,000 ARP 2500 ... and yes I know he did it originally on an EMS

  • I Agree with you on the facts!

  • Hey man awesome job i loved it.. could u tell me how to hook up guitar pedals to keyboards? is it just as simple as putting the effect in between the board and the amp?

  • It's that simple! It won't sound quite as good as it could if you're using a guitar amp like I am; a keyboard amp is ideal. But it's great for mucking about!

  • great tone! (nice playing too, heh.)

  • are you using a guitar amp?

  • Yep, perhaps a keyboard amp might have been a better move but I don't own one.

  • What about a 3.4 Pixem camera?

  • wow. it sounds great and he even said hes not a keyboard player. awesome job!

  • Well I'm a guitarist, so maybe I'm cheating a little. Hehe, thanks!

  • Awesome! Keep posting :-)

  • Sounds great very accurate.. and very rockin'! now I got the idea how to do it. Thanks!

  • that made me jizz lol jk but dude amazing!!

  • And bye the way love this video, tnxs for the upload man.

  • Whatch the video on how he made the sound for the time Towsend was a fukin legend. Like Hendrix and Lennon.

  • that sounds pretty damn good

  • and what about the resonance pedal what is it for?

  • i love this video! are you using any envelope filter/flanger/phaser/auto-wah?

  • The resonance pedal is the filter here. It operates the same as a Wah but the effect is different.

I could've used a phaser or flange but it wouldn't sound nearly as authentic.

  • do you think a wah pedal would sound decent?

  • It's a similar effect but it would sound different. I think the Resonance is far closer to what the original synth filter was, but I suppose a Wah would also be fun to play with!

The ME-50 also has a talkbox and a ring modulator, both of which sounded pretty crazy when I tried them out with the keyboard.

  • wow man that is great

the end is teenage wasteland right??

  • Baba O'Riley, but you get the idea anyway!

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • I have the me-50, it's a great pedal

  • Hey this is a really terrific imitation.

  • Thanks!

  • Fantastic!

  • wow thats ounds to the real thing awesome

  • He's a good guitarist but all I'm saying is...

    Where's the book Townshend?!.

    lmao.

  • that is kick ass. wasnt expecting anything of that quality.

  • Ha! Thankyou

  • Yeah - my kinda shit!! Always using what I have to get those unexpected happy accidents!!

I'm going to work that out with my gear too...

  • Very creative. Well applied.

  • Sounds damn near dead on!

  • Thats clever

  • That sounds pretty good really.

    :P

  • you have the best wallpaper in the world.

  • Ah well, the law of averages states that I have to have at least one total moron posting a comment on this video every year... might as well be you!

PS. It's a great pedal, I'm sure you could probably steal one with minimum effort.

  • great come back

    guys post was dumb anyway

  • Oh, yes, and a little less reverberating... Think this works. The synth in this music is quite "crude", there´s a little reverb in it.

  • Yeah, WHO rocks.! You can put them more louder, and less treble. Think will be exactly like the original. Good work!

  • As far as treble goes, what you really have to watch with the resonance filter is how far you let the pedal go. If you push it too far down, it does blast too much treble out.

  • Amazing dude, Nice work.

  • Thanks!

  • Do u have a guitar wah pedal on your keyboard well whatever it is it sounds amazing

  • Yeah; just plugged my keyboard in, instead of the guitar.

You can do this with any instrument that can be plugged in or mic'd up. Saxophones sound cool through guitar pedals.

  • Inspiring thanks

  • Have you tried the moogerfooger pedals from moog music?........they can make literally any sound

  • I've heard of them, not really tried one though.

  • That sounds a lot like a phaser

  • It's a very similar effect, in that it chops out certain frequencies in a repeating sort of 'sweep' pattern.

It ain't quite the same though.. I tried it with the phaser a few times and it wasn't quite right.

It'd be good if the resonance filter could go up and down by itself the way the phaser and flanger do, though.

  • this is magical :)

  • Before I go out and invest the $295: does the ME-50 do the repeating of the chords your holding down or is this feature built into the Yamaha? Right now, I'm using a Roland Juno-D and playing every freakin' note...my right forearm will be the size of Popeye's soon. Kindly advise - thank you!

  • That's what tremolo is. It makes it sound like the chords are repeating when its really just like the volume going in and out

  • ANIMAL!

  • if i want distortion to be played.Only the AMP do the trick?

  • with this sound you can play the intro of baba o'riley...fantastic...

  • Hey, i would like to know how you did the connections, because i'm trying with my stuff but i get no sound.

  • Don't worry, i finally got it

  • Great sounds man...now I gotta figure out how to reproduce that with shitty equipment :p

  • could this be done on guitar?

  • I've used this combination of effects with guitar... doesn't quite sound the same! It's fun to do, though.

  • do you have a music sheet that shows how to play it?

  • Nope, all done by ear... hence the mistakes! :)

I'd like to do a better one someday, maybe.. if I get the time...

  • EVH does a pretty good job... youtube van halen won't get fooled again. Sammy tears it up, too.

  • Good point!

They don't exactly go for the 'sound', but his playing is a wicked alternative to the synth.

  • awesoem how youget the sound .wat effects .thanks

  • The only effects I'm using are on the ME-50, it's all listed at the start.

    Cheers!

  • very good

  • Is it really possible to use the boss me50 with keyboards!?! Nice!

  • set a limit on the filter, guy. its modulating too much.

  • At the time I did try to limit the movement of my leg, but it wasn't easy and I was in a bit of a hurry.

    Thanks

  • Right ! This is the original sound. Good work ;-)

  • Cheers!

  • Hey for using what you had lying around I gotta say it sounded pretty badass to me.

Also that Star Wars wallpaper behind you is sweet (looks like Cloud City and a probe droid?)

  • Yeah, it's wallpaper from 1980. Belonged to my older brother but he never used it in his childhood.... so it got put up when I was a kid. Lucky, hey!!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Really good man!

  • Cheers!
